I think the apathy towards life is spurred by a prevailing sense of mortality, dwindling opportunities with age and therefore an escalating lack of faith in the principles of hope and imagination. If people knew scientifically (since that's what's needed for this age) the transformative powers latent in hope and the imaginative will, they'd seize life with more love and optimism. Even amidst all the social anarchy and the preaching of nihilism by materialism's ministers. Wisdom resides in your sentiment, earthly life has garnered and will garner strength, health and eventual beauty through overcoming suffering. Not all of us lose memory of ‘previous lives’, as shown by Ian Stevenson’s research. But I don’t have a satisfactory evidence-based answer to why we lose the memory. I speculate that it would be too disorienting for many of us to retain memories outside our current lifetime. Nonetheless some of us do exhibit themes at an early age. Like musical talent etc. The ‘past’ and the ‘future’ are linear terms. Useful and orienting, but nonetheless inadequate from the perspective of an eternal soul, who knows NOW is the only moment. There really isn’t a prediction of the future. It is a reading of probabilities as they are measured in the moment. The ‘future’ is not a solid, certain thing. But have we not had people predict future outcomes? We are always interacting with the soul. We have not left the spirit. Some of these questions there isn’t a answer for that would satisfy you. But to say that experience is consistent with the materialist worldview is an admission of YOUR experience, not that of others. People who have had near death and out of body experiences or mystical experiences HAVE had experiences that in no way conform to materialism. Where is it shown that consciousness conforms to the materialist worldview? Synchronicity and deja vu and telepathy are all instances which prove (to me) that materialism is a premature understanding. Why is it that so often I think of someone and they call me within seconds? Synchronicities like this are anomalous from the materialistic POV. From the spiritual POV they are totally natural. Materialism has not proved itself either. How does life organize itself and make decisions to survive if it is nothing but temporal matter? What explains DNA? Random chance variation and evolution? What is the function within organisms that makes the decision to adapt to circumstances? Is that not inductive of a non-random intelligence operating throughout all biological systems? To me the materialist worldview is utterly against every bone and cell in my body. I simply have never been able to fathom how it is so believable to so many people. Well … there you have it.

Think about a soldier that comes back from war and suffers crippling PTSD. This "memory" doesn't allow him to live a full life. Now imagine having memories of all the terrible things that happened to you over the many incarnations that you had here....

@@americanesoteric Youre right, I can only speak to my own experiences. I think one problem I have with stuff that is paranormal or like the magick people, is that I dont understand what it would mean for their claim to be true. Like lets say I grant you that people get reincarnated and remember their past lives. How does it work? How many lives do you remember, how do you induce a past life memory? What could be the practical utility of accepting jt as truth, how can it actually be utilized? I had this issue with esp wicca and other groups of 'magick' claims. Like lets say I grant you esp is real or magick exists. How can I become a telepathist or how does it work? Should I just start writing spells and casting them, how can I know if the spells or incarnations or charms or fetishes actually work? Should I get a deck of tarot cards and live by the random cards I draw? And then you have people like james randi who went around disproving a lot of people's paranormal claims... Idk, tbh Im just a very critical person, but I do appreciate people that ask interesting questions. Thank you for this video

The spiritual amnesia exists so that we can rediscover god again, hinduism states that we are God pretending not to be as to rediscover itself. Makes allot of sense if you ask me. How can an experience like being human be novel with past life recollection. It would bore itself out quickly.

This video covers a concept that by definition is subjective, which means that science is wholly unequipped to analyze it sufficiently. Most of this is phenomenology, anthropology, psychology, and philosophy. Thus, hard sciences and the method of repetition and objective evaluation associated with science will make a nonsense explanation of this subjectively and intuitively experienced phenomenon. Coming from an background in philosophy and psychology, the way that many of these differing approaches to reincarnation/metempsychosis are blended in such a coherent way lays credence to at least the intellectual rigor of the creator of this video. It’s unfortunate that you had a such a negative experience watching this video, but if nothing else, hopefully you learned something interesting about the history of philosophy. By the by, this isn’t intended to be malicious, just an inquisitive response. Have a great rest of your day!

Phenomenology and the scientific method are both based on experience and observation, theyre just different types of empiricism. Now I do generally agree with the critiques of the video that OP made. But its not like the video is worthless, his arguments might not be convincing but its an interesting and complicated topic. But yeah the fact that the video makes a failed attempt to devalue science and makes flawed phenomenological arguments doesnt invalidate either method. Its just that science is limited to observable phenomena and phenomenology is better used as a subjective framework than for hard conclusions. After all it led heidegger in a pretty shitty direction

I appreciate your comment. However, I never attempted to “devalue science”. As I showed there are scientists who support these ideas with their own research. I do argue that the contemporary scientific worldview pretends they can discredit all notions of a soul etc. while they have not actually proven the lack thereof. What evidence would a scientist need for instance to ‘prove’ the soul is real? That would be difficult to provide. But death shows many who are revived that there was not an end to consciousness. As well, I would need you to explain where my take is flawed instead of just saying that it is, in order to respond. Again, thanks for your comment.
