Reincarnation and the Tripartite Soul of Indo-European Tradition

Understanding the European Religious Tradition.
I believe that the European pagan religions had some notion of reincarnation. This is evident from multiple sources from Buddha to Plato. I look at different Indo-European traditions for evidence of the tripartite conception of the soul. I reference the works of Julius Evola and Rene Guenon.
There was a concern for honour and glory. We see this in the Greek concept of Kleos which comes from Proto-Indo-European *ḱlewos it is also akin to the Norse fylgja.... but this was not the ultimate goal of pagan religion.
The highest part of the soul was what Plato called logistikon, akin to Logos, and related to the PIE concept *rta which refers to the governing principle of all creation and being.

Thank you for going over all this Pre-Christian European culture . I am an Indian and seeker of Vedic knowledge and I read about the connections to the Pre-christian similarities to Sanatan Dharm. When I speak to Europeans most people unfortunately have absolutely no knowledge of their Pre-Christian past. Keep the knowledge alive. As a far as reincarnation the soul moves on, meaning for example when u close your eyes and do not speak or see or hear, and clear your mind "you" are still there it's is that "you" that moves on without all the "Maya"/ world attachments ( name, status, feelings, etc.) attached to it, or it reaches "moksha/nirvana/release from the cycle"

the 3 parts of the soul are in Norse mythology signified by the 3 brothers Odin, Villi and Vé. Odin, the logos the search for knowledge, the head. Villi, willpower the instincts, the lusts, the genitalia, the bowls. Vé, Awe, Faith, emotions feelings, the heart. Those 3 brothers together were able to slay the fist being Ymir and create the worlds from its body.

This channel is very important for us who are of European descent. Our wonderful culture has been suppressed particularly in the "colonial " nations of Australia, Canada and U.S. It has been replaced with consumerism ,and the abrahamic Christianity. People who can feel there's more than that often search in other cultures for soul substance , not realising we have our own very deep ,ancient traditions.This channel helps inspire exploration of such.Thank you.

I would also like to add that these 3 differant "levels" or parts seem to correspond to the differant aspects of a person's life .We all have these 3 aspects at all times but they each seem to grow or decline as life progresses. A young teenager through to early adulthood is quite likely to be chasing sex , and pleasure, like drinking and partying.The next stage can be about family ,making connections at or for work , being part of a team or seeking "your" type of people to associate with , making a good name for yourself for employment and personal reasons. The next stage then moves into seeking understanding and sense out of life's experiences, looking for knowledge, and truth unburdened by societies norms or rules , or prevailing attitudes or religions ,and thinking about the next life or death. I read about this in one of those free books the Hare Krishna give out once ,and it had a really good illustration to go with it , showing a man going through life and death , and rebirth.

Completely agree with your first comment! The stuff about Tripartite things - well yes it's very nice to organize things and thoughts in groups of three, where they can be compared. For example the yogic concept of "three gunas", which can literally be applied to everything everywhere.

When we think of the Magi scriptures the Muslims destroyed it´s heartbreaking, one can only wonder the fantastic Indo-European connections those teachings must have kept, as the Magis seem to have had much in common with European pagan traditions! Parthians and Medes (both ancestors of the modern Kurdish tribes) must have had it in its pristine forms. Hinduism has fortunately preserved a lot of it but from what I heard from Hindu friends when I was on Facebook, only some special traditions have kept the true Indo-European spirit, which was very broad-minded and not given to sexual bias influenced by the patriarchal Abrahamic religions.

@CoD RocKz # Wild gaming Well, any religion changes through time, that´s a natural process any of them go through and some changes are for the better. However, to know what you call 'original Hinduism' one would have to pick one of its oldest, attested phases when it was not the common religion once shared by Iranian and Indian tribes, when there was not Zoroastrianism and Hinduism yet. In which sources do you rely on for your assertions, do you have any links to any accessible article available for free in English on this?

I can't believe someone thinks this is true, not just that proto-Indo-Europeans believed it but that it's actually how human beings are created. I don't even know where to begin with this: the argument from antiquity, where do these essences come from how, how do they affect the physical person.
@adindrecaj
@adindrecaj 7 лет назад
firstly, at the beginning of the video, he said these were his personal beliefs. Now, do you think this is all just some bullshit someone made up one day? look it up yourself dude, do your own research. i have, and i have logically came to the conclusion that they did believe in these things. the concepts Survive the Jive talks about, they makes a lot of sense. They're compelling, mainly because these abstract concepts are seen in so many other pagan / pre-christian beliefs. Also, I've been able draw a lot of parallels with pagan and pre-christian beliefs with science. For example, in the ancient vedic texts, there are mentions of planetary systems, round planets, and even very (relatively) advanced concepts such as time dilation. another example is the fact that the ancient greeks believed that in the beginning of time there was only chaos, no light or structure, and only fundamental materials. then, things started coming together and light was born, along with planets, solar systems and what-not. this is almost identical to the description the Big Bang Theory gives about the beginning of the universe. (maybe this is a weaker example because the big bang theory doesnt even have an equation to sum it up and has many inconsistencies) And you know what, even if all of this isnt true, and the human has no soul (which in my opinion is kind of absurd to believe we dont), its still much better to believe in these kind of lies as appose to accepting that we have no souls and life is meaningless, living a miserable existence, and becoming a husk of a human being; aka, an atheist or nihilist.
@adindrecaj
@adindrecaj 7 лет назад
remember, man is the measure of all things. not science. science merely a platform that lets us collect information, to which the interpretation of such is left to the observer. science will not and cannot have the answers to everything. and, Philosophy is a school of knowledge just as valid as science.
@petergibbons8494
@petergibbons8494 7 лет назад
In case I wasn't clear, I don't think previous people were morons for believing in this. Based on the more limited knowledge of time and the lack of the rigorous scientific method, these were rational to believe. Also, like the language many of the beliefs come from earlier ancestral or nearby tribes which explains the similarity; if they were all totally different that would require an explanation. Metaphysical concepts are often metaphorical as well, so they can be interpreted in many ways. That doesn't make them wrong because of that, but you have to look into how closely their concepts actually match scientific theory and take into consideration explanations that are at odds with it. I don't agree believe in something, even if it's not true, just because it's better for some reason. Denial of reality leads to problems. What exactly is better in this sense anyway? Is it really that if you and everyone don't believe you have a special place in the universe, you might as well slit your wrists in the bathtub?

Further note: contrary to 17:30 in the video, the Indian class system isn't tripartite but divided into 4: Brahmana, Kshatriya, Vaishya, Shudra. Also at 8:14 daemon does indeed refer to a divine spirit, according to a very old source, Hesiod (Theogony, line 990).

Restless Researcher The early Hindu society during the Rigvedic (except Mandala X) and pre-Rigvedic times was divided into 3 classes. As the society becams more complex the 3rd class was split into two. This can still be seen from the name of the 3rd class Vaishya which literally means "of the vish(village)" i.e. villager or commoner. Later Vaishya referred to merchants and the commoners were then called Shudras. Very similar to how in post industrial society the eartswhile commoner class split into bourgeois and proletariat.

It appears more likely that The three upper classes shared racial homogeneity as the Āryas, while the fourth class represent a separate racial population that was incorporated later. This is why the vaiśya possess the particular privilages of hi born Āryas; e. g. To study the Veda, perform sacrifices, and offer charity. This was never permitted to the śudras, and it is unlikely that the vaiśyas arose from this fourth class and acquired the dignities of a dvija later.

I think those not open to the spiritual side of reincarnation should at least realise they are but a bridge between their ancestors and their offspring, of which they are borrowing that which their ancestors gave them. What then will their children do but inherit that which they leave behind? A purely material approach to reincarnation. Without your ancestors, you would not be. Not only biologically, but everything material about you. In that same sense your children will allow you to join the long list of your ancestors. That is how, without spiritual thought required, a strong connection can be made. What is more meaningful than adopting the ways of your ancestors and allowing their blood to flow again in ever newer generations who in turn do the same, and in that way, to live forever?

Our relationship to this reality which lies almost beyond our imagintion is hard to define as anything other than spiritual I believe.

When he is speaking at the very end of reincarnation being constant, I always use the seasons as a way to visualize this. Firstly, he mentions that we should not imagine reincarnated as something restarting but instead being constant, as the divine in us is constant. Imagine then that just as there is permanent divine element amplifying itself to several bodies as they are born and die, so does our life on earth travel through the seasons or summer and winter. We do not die in winter but are witness to this death. Another way to see it is that the seasons always return, it is not the exact same season as last year, but in its essence and energy the season is a thing which has returned. Therefore even though we die on earth, we do return, not identical as before, but the same in essence and energy. Nothing in this universe is wasted.

Very good video! This is just the topic i like. How i see this is, i could explain quite simple. We have an finite life, just the physical human. And that one is pretty much only concerned with survival in the finite physical life. And then we have an 'higher being'. The consciousness you could say. And to reach the highest potential of that, you have to act out on integrity in your physical life. Because that way you learn the most. Maybe we are all extensions of the universe. The universe is consciousness. If the universe wants to understand itself. It has to see itself from out of as much perspectives as possible. Maybe thats why we humans have tools to perceive and even judge. The brain and senses. I think the more you act on integrity (we all have this feeling that tells us the way) the faster you learn, the more the universe 'expands' in all knowing. Often when somebody had a near death experience, they tell that they had an all understanding of everything.. Maybe because the consciousness of one person then blended in with the one big bunch of consciousness of all. I btw very much agree with plato, you should not repress your physical kind of being. Just try to understand it, and order it properly. Get it indeed in harmony with you 'higher being'. If we as humans get this physical being, i believe 'the universe' wants us to experience it. Not repress it.

I actually agree with you Elisabeth we cannot reject our earthly desires. It is easy for the Buddhist monks to do it because they are provided for nutritionally and financially. Unlike our hunter gatherer forbears who had to live from meal to meal, day to day. They were hunters and warriors both, when they could seek glory and honour. That coupled with their short life span they must have lived great lives, if they were great enough perhaps they transcended being reincarnated enough times. Interesting thoughts, loved the video Tom.

An interesting topic to cover at some point would be the Irish síd mounds and the similarities between the 'síd beings' and the 'elves' of old Norse myth, (Roman numina also resemble these). Their seems to be an overarching belief in a parallel supernatural race among the indo European people, a fascinating topic

A root cellar reinforce interior with stack stone, then cover in turf. Centuries later people resettle the area to farm again called the earlier people's food storage shed a " fairy " mound. Sorry I learn my intellectual dismisness in grade school back in the 1980's dealing with Southern Baptists bull crap derogatory disregards towards other people's beliefs. I got paddled a lot in Sunday school. Case in point, depending on how much land and cash you work have to work with. Create a hut, .. a.) place a marking post into the ground, tie a rope to it and walk a eight to 12 ft circle around the post marking the ground. Then dig a trench outside the circle and stack/ pack the dirt to create a foundation base for the hut. Buying or free hauling any local flat field stone will help. b.) Land clear a bunch of shrub tree growth and use that to build the hut walls/ roof as an over size wicker basket, follow with a mud plaster. Then you have a sleeping area which humans have lived in for thousand of years. I always had strange/ weird dreams in the one I built as a teenager. 2.) Spiritual energies, .. a.) Current theory what I have been hearing for the pass 30 years, concrete/ asphalt blocks " nature/ natural " energies. And stone out lasts wood and stores mental energy longer. Such thing as " healing " crystals, and there use to be sad lonely fire place hearths. The stone remembers the person. b.) In old foundations in Europe and a few in the Americas there was a spot in the basement or cabin that had an arm length narrow pit lined to stone. It was used to Draw up Earth energy or to make offerings to the Under World to their ancestors. c.) As for the hut, remove the floor turf, dig just below the top soil and create a stone eight spoke medicine wheel lined with the North Star cause the ancients didn't know of the magnetic north pole. Cover the wheel with about a foot of pack dirt. The center of the hut/ medicine wheel is where you keep your cooking/ warming fire. Then get ready to have a bunch of imaginary visitors showing up. Nut job Jesus freaks nearly see, blame, claim that the devil is everywhere haunting them. Or always being visited by angels. Now you have something called " knockers " fairy, imp, what nots or children spirits. Most times I just have squirrels dropping down on my roof or a bird flying into my front door window. Other times I hear a loud banging knock and nothing is outside my door. 3.) Build at your discretion, cause once something come into your life, they do not leave. Humans are great sports for fun & games. a.) Believe nothing and there is no " science " equipment to record or back anything. Importantly tell no one new or did not help you build the hut what is under the floor. b.) People will express what ever they view/ vision base on their own cultural background belief, some will just feel calm or have the hair on the back of their necks stand on end. Honestly is Sleep/ Dream Research even a logical sound scientific study or just bull crap to get grant money in the same line as " ghost hunters." Religion : there is different levels to reality and my holy book is The Truth on such things. Science/ cough" fictions : Well we do know about vibrational frequencies and a lot of strange thing have been witness which neither religion nor current science can explain. So I'm going to build my own test lab and see how people react being inside of the hut and around it. Hope you have a good weekend, and maybe a good laugh. Gods bless.

@@krispalermo8133 Ah thank you and to you. I drew a picture of what I imagine your hut to be over a year ago!! There is magic I believe at play!! I always imagined my roundhouse to be made from cob walls but interestingly I currently live in a beautiful terraced old miner's stone family cottage. Still has the old coal shed and outside working loo in the back yard complete with hatch. Who knows one day for me I keep looking at that picture I drew and my relationship with stones and our mother earth. I too may sleep in my own built round house. Blessings to you and thank you for the inspiration xx

This description of the soul is eerily similar to much of psychoanalytic literature's description of being, and the mind. It is amazing yet a bit sad to realize that our people understood these things thousands of years ago but that we've completely forgotten them.

I watched this video once when it was newer, neophyte redpill, I then went back a bit to JBP (algorithm picked up liked him and recommended your Neitzsche video). Then I went and binge-watched your channel, at various stages. Through that I came to reading Evola's Revolt Against the Modern World and The Mystery of the Grail, and later through you I've found Dharma nation and discovered more about the Vedic tradition, including the Bhagavad Gita and such scriptures in my reading. I recently started reading a series of four articles on counter-currents by Collin Cleary on Vedanta. I have prior sources on such subjects myself before though, through Plato's Republic (the myth of Er was really compelling to me as well). I came back to this video after reading part II of those articles. It was a good choice as you've cleared quite bit of this up for me. I can always come back to these for a refresher on any Aryan spirituality, Aryanity, if you will. That's why they're so good.

You've pulled together many interesting threads in a very cogent way, and for that I just subscribed. You will take a major step towards greater understanding of the matter if you come to grips with an admittedly hard concept to grasp, namely, that very likely, all incarnations are simultaneous. That means, you're already ALL those alternate selves living different and rich experiences of the universe, and that, very likely, the main magnun opus, the major task, is to reconnect to those literally lost brothers and sisters of yours, the actual lost tribe concept, in a way to integrate into your higher self, immesurably enriching your current somewhat alienated status. This is of paramount importance and there's sources pointing to that direction (I didn't just make it all up). You might want to reasearch the concept that we are all part of a "fractured soul", one infinetely greater and wiser, but that, like the prodigal son, we must find our way back to the "father" (better yet, the higher self, regardless of whether that higher self is akin to a Wothan-like entity, or a Loki-like entity, or any number of other possible archetypes) and out of the exile (you might call it the big disconnect) created by the ego.

"He is the Soul of the Universe; He is Immortal; His is the Rulership; He is the Allknowing, the All-pervading, the Protector of the Universe, the Eternal Ruler. None else is there efficient to govern the world eternally. He who at the beginning of creation projected Brahmâ (i.e. the universal consciousness), and who delivered the Vedas unto him - seeking liberation I go for refuge unto that effulgent One, whose light turns the understanding towards the Âtman." Shvetâshvatara-Upanishad Sanatan dharma/Hinduism says you soul(Atman) is eternal and unborn.Atman(soul)will born again and again to improve and experience all that life has to offer and finally merge into Brahman(supreme infinite consciousness, who is god of the hindus) when soul liberated and realized the true self.

Great clip. Thanks! Don't forget to throw the Muse of history (Clio) in with your mnemonic chains related to fame or being 'heard of'. Also, you might enjoy stitching the Roman household gods into your consideration. You already covered the 'Genius' (tied of course to gens, and hence originally associated with a given family line rather than an individual, until the time of Augustus, as I recall). But you should also have a look at Lares and the dii familiares proper such as the Penates, and perhaps most importantly the Manes. Given that these latter are never referred to in the singular you might enjoy adding them to your framework of consideration (i.e. those who do not attain to fama). Lastly, I would point you towards the Artes Memorativae, which were about much, much more than rhetoric - particularly given the way we've seen that there were certain gods associated with certain parts of a house...

Just watched Acharya's video on the three Vedic Paths, Vaishava, Shaiva, Shakta and then clicked upon STJ for the three parts of the Soul: even though we have a racial soul and it may be important to us and to the integrity of our various cultures politics and society in general it is not the Ultimate. Great to see STJ using a very holistic view of indo European and other (Buddhism) religion to piece together the ultimate truths that can be found in our more Odinistic past. Love it. It satisfies my ancestral racial soul and helps to redeem and renew it whilst keeping my hearts eye on the Ultimate prize.

I'm a Taoist/Shamanist with very eclectic stands and have always loved Druidry and Scandinavian shamanism, our concept of the Primordial Nature has very much to do with Plato´s world of ideas in a certain sense and would be interpreted as the Source of all Wonders, the very Source of Magic itself, at least in the older, shamanic view of the concept, which can be traced back to the Yellow Emperor´s phase of shamanic Taoism, with links to extraterrestrial legends of Immortals from the Stars. For one who has been interested in Indo-European ancestral spiritualities and languages for decades, this is a must download, sharing and thank you so much for this!!

Great video! As a Greek and a Classics student, though, I feel the need to point out that in ancient Greek the suffix "-ικος" doesn't add the meaning of "little" to the word (that would be other suffixes such as "-ιον", "-αριον" etc). It rather means someone/something that is "pertaining to" the meaning of the stem of the word.

This common theme of three is really interesting to me. I was shown once during worship that the world is made of three parts: vibration, sensation, and God. When the vibration touches sensation, perception arises, which is louder than knowledge, and God no longer sees itself/ourself but sees the illusion of the material and spiritual worlds.
