This is a very good tutorial. And I'm happy you used a green horse. You're one hell of a Horseman Mr. Trocha. Thank you!

This is by far my favorite tutorial on teaching a horse to spin. I love that you used a horse that hasn't yet been fully trained to do so. It helps me so much more to see possible problems beforehand, and it gives me a way of knowing how to handle them without intervening with the progress I have already made. I've been working with a 16 hand ranch horse who finds it quite difficult to even pivot (I'm probably the one to blame) and I can't wait to try this method out on him. Thank you so much!

I was very impressed and happy to see that this horse did not swith it's tail, and that even through you were training on him, you were not exactly drilling him and on his head constantly. I had just watch some "free training" videos on reigning where the horses were constantly switching their tails, the guy on their head constantly.

Hi Lindsay, That bit is a hand-made John Israel, with a low, wide port. Very mild with some weight to it. When a horse quits responding well, it's time to change. There is a good article I wrote about the bitting process that's posted on my website. You may want to read it. Larry T

It's a back cinch. They use it on ropers so when they pull on the cow, the saddle doesn't flop on the front end. It's loose because he's not roping.

Hello Mr. Trocha. I have a 4 year old - coming 5 - filly that is a wonderful product of all your training videos. I do, however, have a question regarding bits. You mention in this video that this horse is new in the bridle - what bit are you working him in and when do you find it appropriate to change out bits? Thank you for sharing all your wonderful knowledge!

Its not only "alright", it's a big advantage to trail ride your arena performance horse. The more variety you give your horse, the better. The boot's I use on my horses, are the best at helping prevent tendon and ligament strains and tears. You can find them in the "tack" section of my website. Larry T.

Thank you very much for these videos! They are really helping me. I just have two questions. One, what are the white boots on your horse for and are they necessary? Also, my horse is a trail horse but I feel like she has loads of potential and want to start training her to rein. Do you think it is alright if she is a trail horse with reining training?

Thank you for making this video! it really helped me and my horse:) i do have one question though. My horse is western (obviously) and i try to ride her around on a loose rein but she tends to go fast. I tryed to do some half halts, but she is very sensative to the bit so she ends up throwing her head up and then looses focus. Other wise she is very good im just having an issue with that problem. thanks

hi there mister Trocha, I've got a question about the type of bit you're using to teach horses how to spin, the thing is that I've been training my own quarter horse for reining based on your videos, and for some rare reason ( I think is because is the first horse I've ever trained) he keeps using the wrong pivot leg (the outside instead of inside). I'm wondering if I'm using the wrong bit (I have to confess that I've never used a snaffle bit on my horse).

Aside from being green to reining, this horse looks pretty finished as an all around riding horse.. Do you have any suggestions for the younger horse? I have a 3 year old filly who is taking to riding nicely, has a killer turn on the haunches but she swaps her pivot foot and i just cant put speed on her..
@Weaponsmaster8595
@Weaponsmaster8595 13 лет назад
@ltrocha Alright. I don't intend on showing at anything big, my reining filly is just not always reliable due to her "Mare" days, so I considered using the barrel mare for reining on my Equestrian Team which isn't very competitive. She can turnaround and stop with her butt the ground and has the hip control for lead changes, but like you said the transitioning down will be a problem for her since she's trained that slow is bad. Thanks, I'll just keep working away at her and see what becomes. :)
@Nothanksyoubro
@Nothanksyoubro 12 лет назад
what kind of bit do you use? when i get my horse to yurn, he tends to turn 90 and WANT to stop. and when i get some heel into him, he wants to dance and step back and get fussy.. should i slow up or get tougher on him?
@Weaponsmaster8595
@Weaponsmaster8595 13 лет назад
I have a horse who gets overly excited when my leg touches her. She's a barrel mare, and I still want her to be used for barrel racing but unfortunately its made her hot. Is there any particular way I can make her calmer for reining too? She's never done anything besides barrel racing before I got ahold of her.
@ltrocha
@ltrocha 13 лет назад
@Weaponsmaster8595 Hi WeaponsMaster, I thought I'd better answer you or risk the consequences =o). Realistically, you can do things that would definitely help your mare calm down but I doubt the results would be enough to allow you to do the "big fast circle, down to the small slow circle" well enough to win anything. Larry T.
