My personal favorite is when one character has a beautiful vocabulary and the other one just… Character A: “You are not my sun, nor my moon, nor my stars. You are the entire sky to me. You are forever holding me close in a gentle blanket of blue. Sometimes you may change, your heart covered in storm clouds, your thoughts an endless hurricane… but you never leave me, even then. You protect me from the darkness outside our bubble of peace. You are my safety.” Character B: “…Holy fuck you’re attractive.”

i adore the pair of a scary character that everyone fears at first sight, and who has a reputation for being violent and just fucking terrifying (a), and there significant other/friend/family member who looks harmless but is actually ten times more aggressive, like they’re just a angry feral cat 24/7 (b).This works both romantically and platonically. Bonus points if character A gets bossed around by B!

Personally one of my favorites is probably the "Big and intimidating one is actually shy as heck and the smol one is like an angry pomeranian" thing. I don't know why,but I find it adorable. In other words,the "Excuse me,he asked for NO PICKLES" meme.

Some of my favorites probably are: - Tall and anxious husband x short and confident wife - Sweet and tall wife x short and grumpy husband - "A" had a horrible life and has let the bad things take control of them, "B" had an horrible life too, but tries their best to see the good side of everything (and may or may not hide a lot of pain that they only trust "A" to know) - "A" and "B" had an horrible life and let the bad things control them, they may be assholes that nobody likes thanks to it, but they're still together helping each other (probably will eat icecream together while crying) and hoping for some day to run away of everything and start a new happy life but every ship dynamic, no matter which one is or if it's one i mentioned, will get bonus point if they're super sweet together, no matter if it's in public or private, just that they're sweet enough to give you diabetes

Not sure what story made me love this dynamic, but adventurous A who can't stay still and keeps getting into trouble and tired B who would love to stay home and drink tea all day but has to follow A to keep them out of trouble. Just melts my heart.

I've got one: Two people who are both jaded by the world around them and don't believe in love anymore slowly falling for each other and then suddenly panicking when they realize, "Oh, FUCK-" and then awkwardly trying to navigate a relationship and starting to see that they are still capable of loving and being loved.

The romance dynamic whose praises I will never stop singing is 'two people who are both outcast from society and/or both have traumatic pasts finally find comfort in each other for the first time' like yes give me all the angst, and the 'I will now devote every ounce of love I have suppressed my entire life to you' is amazing because it feels like 'finally, someone cares about me' and that feeling is the best one in the world

Man, that "perfect girl actually wants to be with a genuine nice guy" trope brings tears of sweet satisfaction to my eyes.

Angst tropes I’d die for: - Unrequited lovers that both know they’ll never be able to finally get together because of the paths they both chose -They fall out of love after being together for so long and it’s just sad to watch them try and mend what was once there

Two characters that absolutely have eachothers hearts and would die for eachother But don't need to make out or have sex to show it May or may not have their own personal romantic relatonships, love interests or partners with different people But never let it get in the way of the special bond they share. They could be apart for months, but when they're together a certain magic happens and it's like they never left.

2:09 I think I have a new favorite ship dynamic. I just love the thought of a loyal yet crushed and bashful henchman having a crush on a completely intimidating, serious, and competent villain. And maybe even showing hints that they like the villain yet don't want to make it clear because they are too shy about coming out about it. I can also see the henchman being a bit obsessive (not in an unhealthy way) or touch-starved and is always trying to be around the villain or try to get their attention at least. Complete bonus if they have a height difference as well.

highschool sweethearts who drifted apart meeting after years, they have found a consolidated sense of self, have learnt to accomodate their differences and love each other regardless. they still bring each other their favourite drinks and little trinkets just like they did back in high school days.

okay I don't think I've seen this dynamic before but two strangers running away from their lives for whatever reason, meeting up along the way, and sticking together as they bond over what they ran away from. bonus points for road trip aesthetics and sunrises in cars.

I recently discovered that my favorite character dynamic is "enemies to kinda frenemies??". The two characters dislike each other and originally get off on the wrong foot, but end up in a situation where they see each other on a somewhat frequent basis. As they get to know each other, they soften up to each other but are both too stubborn to get any closer. They develop this weird almost friendship like relationship where they will roast and banter toward each other but also go to one another first if they need to vent or have a shoulder to cry on.

I’m writing two different love arcs: 1: Bard x Someone who will eventually become god. They will be separated for all eternity because of the person ascending to godhood but the Bard can’t move on and writes love songs about them all the time. 2. “My parents are dead.” “My mom is dead and my dad is terrible.” Looks at each other “Wanna kiss?” “Sure”

I'm so huge on the "person jaded by the world falls in love with person who has also been hurt by the world but refuses to let it kill the good and kind part of them" trope. Platonic or romantic, it's always so enjoyable to see character A slowly learn to love the world again through Bs lense.

My favorite ship dynamic is the "They asked for no pickles" dynamic. A dramatic, protective, assertive Character A and a shy, softspoken, but appreciative Character B.

Underrated Trope: aggressively nice person i.e. "WE ARE GOING TO DO THIS. I LOVE YOU ALL, AND I'M SO HAPPY WE HAVE GOTTEN THIS FAR MAY YOU ALL HAVE INCREDIBLE LIVES YOU AMAZING PEOPLE" (in the same volume they would have if they were angry and screaming at someone)

My absolute favorite trope (platonic) is evil villian dad who's ABSOLUTELY soft for their child. Like they're planning this world domination on one hand and on the other doing the cutest most ridiculous stuffs to make their child happy. Yes im a fan of dr doofinsmerz.

Mutual mentorship! It's an old favorite. It's always nice when the younger, less experienced character still has something to teach the older, world-weary one. An example: in a D&D game of mine, I played a swashbuckler rogue in his twilight years who forged an unlikely bond with a plucky young sorceress, a fellow party member. He never received a formal education but had street smarts to spare; she spent her early years in a figurative ivory tower, exceeding academically but having little understanding of the world around her. He taught her how to fight, she taught him how to read. Those two worked excellently together. -Made the drama of my guy dying all the more delicious~-

My ex and I actually had a really great example of that “so close and affectionate” trope. Our friends thought we had been dating for the first year we knew each other. We both thought we had no chance with the other so we both just buried our feelings until our friends basically forced us to date because “we were the only ones who didn’t see the other was clearly in love.” Those were the best 5 years of my life

Ok, hear me out: Two kinda nerdy characters that are in love but hide it with "We are just friends" and everyone around them being like "You hug and look at eachother with affection litearally ALL THE FRICKING TIME!". I love that

platonic relationships with sibling energy are my favourite, like the "You're literally the worst, I would take a bullet for you" kind of sibling energy, whetever the characters are actual siblings or not

This can work as platonic or romantic. MY favorite character trope: when person A was neglected/abused/touch starved all their life and never thought that anyone would ever love them (as a friend/family/lover), but person B comes along and falls for them (whether it be platonically or romantically). Person B slowly gets person A to trust them and they give person A the love they’ve always deserved, but being gentle as they do. This is also slow-burn, giving person A time to become accustomed to the realization that they CAN be loved and that the world, as terrible as it can be, is beautiful. Especially when person B is in it. I can even see this as an parent/adopted kid trope as well.

My fave ship dynamic is when the two (or more, I like polys too) are both evil psychos that murder people on the regular but still somehow care for each other so much and even as they are brutally murdering innocent people you still can't help but love the characters because of how sweet they are to each other.

Best things to include in a ship for me: - Height differences - Contrasting desings like sun and moon (or classic blue and red) - Happy one with grumpy one - The grumpy one gets embarrassed by kisses - The short one is the grumpy one - The happy's one's presence makes the grumpy one really shy - The happy extroverted one tries to hide their relationship, the grumpy introverted one doesn't Or: - Childhood friends to enemies/rivals to lovers - Again, contrasting color palets - Extroverted one and introverted one - Forced to be together, then they realizes they love each other - Introverted one was in love when they were friends and they accept it - Extroverted one doesn't know they are in love with introverted one until they separate - Reunited by a common friend - Introverted one was jealous of the extroverted one having new bfs and they think they're in love with one of those, then introverted one becames friends with the extroverted one's friends and they act like their parents/mothers/fathers And that's why Solangelo and Leaisa/Akusai are my OTP

my personal favorite trope person A: serious, cunning, sensible, gets annoyed easily, has their shit together, can be extremely coldhearted and indifferent, acts as if they can’t stand person B but really is crushing so hard person B: sweet, dense, energetic, innocent, has no common sense half of the time, has no clue that they have a crush on person A but will do sweet things for them

Can I just say that the A = “wife” and B= “HOLY SHIT I LOVE MY WIFE” is definitely my favorite. Bonus points if B is all tough around everyone else, and then melts and gets dad-like around A

I'm a sucker for tall, shy one who gets bullied and short, angry one who protects them

I just love the trope of Person A being serious and have a bit of a hard outer shell and the Person B wears their heart on their sleeve and a sweet person in general (also normally energetic in some ships)

10:00 oR: maybe it could be a confused aro neurodivergent character genuinely just asking a question to figure out what their friend sees them as? and then later when that neurotypical allo friend™ thinks that they're asking for romantic advances they go in for a kiss and then we get a lesson about ✨consent✨ from the aro character. then they make up and the allo friend takes responsibility for what they did and then they're happy queerplatonic partners! :D

What about emotional support annoyances? Two characters who seemingly hate each other's guts and always argue, because come on, how stupid/snooty/tactless can you be? But at the end of the day, each character finds that the other has an odd sort of charm to them, a certain something that's just so comforting, that makes them stay together. Because even if their annoyance at each other is real, they genuinely care and would go through hell and back for each other. Doesn't even have to be romantic.

I personally love the trope where A wants to get away from B, but can't. It's not that B has A locked up or anything, but A chooses to stay, since they have no other option due to *the plot*. They then slowly develop a relationship, from assosiates that hate each other's guts, to genuine frainds and one day perhaps more. Bonus points if both are heavily flawed, yet their company forces one another to grow and change, allowing for that relationship to florish.

I love it when one character has been raised somewhere else (by animals, is an alien, etc.) and grew up without learning shame or embarrassment for showing their emotions. So, when they catch feelings, they're open and unabashedly direct about it, often embarrassing their S.O. by casually expressing their love in random situations.

My favourite will always be: Narrator: “ok, I’m gonna explain this again, character A is an assassin (or any job involved with fighting), they can defend themselves, they don’t need your protection Character B (who has no fighting skills):well I’m still gonna do it Also, the lovely elusive dynamic of “the love rivals who fall in love with each other instead”

Well, my favourite is a blend of tropes together. Character A is a shortie yet is assertive with the rage of a thousand suns, who’s strong as hell, but still struggles to open the pickle jar. Probably plays Animal Crossing, but says they play Doom. Character B is a tall, but a goddamn himbo/cinnamon roll mixed into one who’s happy-go-lucky and just is a ray of sunshine. Definitely plays Animal Crossing, but is obsessed with Nintendogs (because they want a puppy). B doesn’t realize that they’re in love with A, they just want to hug them a lot! But they also want to hold their hand (how lewd)… A meanwhile just wants to pick up the dork and carry them bridal-style to show the world their undying affection for them. Yet they’re too afraid to confess for the sake of ruining their friendship. Neither of them realized they started dating years ago, or that they’ve been married for the past 6 months.

Idk how to describe my favorite trope well but I'll try anyway- Two people who technically could be romantically attracted to each other but just aren't- They just always love eachother platonically without ever had developing any sort of crushes or anything like that

im partial to the dynamic where character A is chronically angry or otherwise emotionally constipated and will rant and rave at character B, who just finds the whole thing amusing and/or endearing bonus points if character B is the only one who can deescalate/tame character A extra bonus points if everyone around them claims that B is A's favorite but B refuses to believe that A would ever play favorites, despite this being demonstrably true

Person A is this like amazing, talented individual, everyone loves them and like praises them, person B (their partner) is like some regular person which person A *absolutely adores* and loves and is like: "omfg you are a literal incarnation of perfect, I love you so much, everyone should worship you not me" and person B loves them just as much. Like, this trope can be done *very wrong* but when it is done right, it is done *_right_*

This doesn't even have to be romantic, but I love it when one character is an angry little ball of energy, and a complete menace to society, and the other acts like a parent and is super tired all the time and has already had enough of them but still loves them

A very specific, but still good ship dynamic: Character A is a fucking terrifying human being with the full capacity for brutal murder, and absolutely no remorse, but has a huge soft spot for character B. As a bonus, Character B is well aware of A’s capabilities, but tends to forget that because the only side of character A that they know is the softest, sweetest, most domestic person ever. So outside characters are utterly terrified of A, but when asked, B will most likely just go on a rant about how nice of a person A is, and how pretty their eyes are or something sweet like that. (Also, bonus points if character A is still somehow the bottom of the relationship) Alternatively, both A and B are morally bankrupt violent criminals, but somehow fell in love with each other (bonus points if they were childhood friends and had a whole friends to lovers arc before they were known as hardened criminals) and now they have the most inexplicably stable and domestic relationship, and nobody has any fucking clue how they got together or even what their relationship even is because everyone is just so perplexed by the idea that these two murders are just happily dating/married.

My favorite dynamic: Both grow up in rival groups, but are less valued by their group for some expected trait that they lack, & it's basically Romeo & Juliet as enemies to lovers For example, two powerful families, one of vampires and the other of hunters, who have these two members who don't live up to the family names, like they're both absolute cinnamon rolls, & they meet when their families try to 'toughen them up' by having them fight someone that intel suggests will be an easy kill, but they both realize 'HE'S JUST LIKE ME!' & bam, they in love

My favorite ship dynamic is definitely powerful bring that’s feared by all and some dude. Tho I’d modify the some dude to ignorant cinnamon roll who is just amazed by powerful being’s all powerfulness. I wrote a character the other day and I’m actually trying to see if another character can fit in my story to make that exact dynamic lol. All powerful demon who grants wishes in exchange for eating ced person later down the line: So you want to make a deal with me? Guy: Nope. Demon: …then why did you come here? Guy: I want YOU to make a deal with me. Demon: isn’t that the same thing? Guy: *twiddling thumbs* no. I just figured you’re always granting other peoples wishes so I should grant yours for a change. Demon: *amused at how adorably ignorant and sweet he is* I guess we can make that work. And then flirting ensues.

Something that’s really funny to me is when a tumblr post is like “enemies to lovers sucks, the real 10/10 ship dynamic is...” and then they describe to you the most boring shit you’ve ever heard. Chhfjdhdjdjjd like I’m not judging my all time favorite ship is rupphire from Steven Universe, it’s just that there’s so much whiplash in reading something like that. At the end of the day tho it all comes down to personal preference.

Might as well list some of my own favorite relationships, both familial/platonic and romantic, as I've been an official fanfic writer for little over two years now. Silent and deadly giant of a man & his small, utterly sunshiney wife who loves him(I've come up with some original stories for this specific pairing) Two characters that seem like they have nothing in common but learn through constant interactions that they are far more alike than assumed, and grow to be as close as family(brothers, sisters, or siblings in general, found family is best for this) The Fry and Leela dynamic: sunshiney, kinda stupid but confident dude but who gives nothing but unconditional love to his more serious and tactful girl, who realizes that while she loves what she does, career or otherwise, what's the point in achieving greatness if there's no one to share it with? Single parent and their unplanned kid now completely flummoxed by parenthood and their complete adoration of their little tomato faced baby. Arranged marriage between a nobleman and a country-girl that's 100% contractional and transactional at first, but through efforts made by both parties, come to realize they truly do love each other, and the relation that once held nothing more than material worth is now worth so much more. These are the ones I can't get enough of, in original stories or fanfiction, at least the ones I remember atm.

Damage x Damage Control is one of my favorite ship types and there needs to be more of it

My favourite dynamics are probably: 1. The quiet ones that can talk to each other without words and still understand exactly what the other mean. 2. The loud one and the stoic one who find the loud one very amusing. 3. The wholesome couple who make the main couple question their own happiness. Bonus if things get resolved or end in a heartbreak.

okay, I’m gonna say it. one of my favourite tropes (romantic or not) is when a person who has been hurt their whole life has someone else touch their cheek and they just MELT into the hand 😭🥺

My favorite ship dynamic of all time is (childhood)* friends to enemies to lovers, idk there’s just so much drama and epic romance in that kind of story. This ship dynamic is to me the best compromise in the “enemies to lovers” vs “friends to lovers” debate )which is apparently a thing for some reason) it takes the pining and yearning from friends to lovers and the _sexual tension_ and emotional turmoil of enemies to lovers, while also adding in the drama and the hurt of having to fight the person you love the most. There’s two flavors of this trope that are perfectly embodied by two of my OTPs, Catradora and Stucky. Ok, flavor one (catradora) is the more straightforward in the “enemies” aspect, they have a big breakup moment where they realize the other person’s moral alignment is not compatible with their own, or character B feels betrayed by character A and decides that character A is now the enemy (regardless of their actual opinion on the conflict at hand). Their storyline then focuses on either character B getting a redemption arc or both characters coming to an understanding of the other’s perspective and ending the conflict Together. Alright, now, ok so, flavor two (Stucky) isn’t really,,, “enemies” in the sense that both characters are morally at odds with each other, but they are still at opposite sides of a conflict and thus have to fight each other. This trope works by having character B get blackmailed, brainwashed or otherwise manipulated into joining the “evil side”, and character A has to save them. Bonus points if character B used to be the one who took care of and protected character A, that shit goes hard and makes me sob and wail and scream and cry. I don’t have much else to say about this trope other than the fact that the amount of brainrot I have accumulated from this trope is not healthy and I need psychological support. * not necessary for the trope to work but it does do horrible things to my brain it makes me growl and snarl like a rabid dog it truly makes me loose my shit and go insane I love it

I had an idea on taking basically all of these and putting them together Character A is a short, extroverted, nerdy mad scientist villain who is often involved in the comedy aspects of the media they’re in. Character B is the main character’s lancer and is literally built like the guy in the gigachad meme, they’d also have wacky non-human features and be super anti-social. They’d start as childhood friends, something happens to character B, they become enemies, but eventually become lovers in a way in which Character A thinks they’re dating Character B, but in a way so casual everyone thinks they’re just friends, and Character B doesn’t even realize that anything is going on yet but is acting like they’re getting close to marriage.

The two token side characters placed in cartoons for comedic purposes. Either platonically, or where they're actually dating and it's just like "he's my bro, it isn't gay to kiss him, is it?" kinda stuff because it's great

The anxious and depression who has too low an opinion of themself to realistically see anyone asking them out, and the really smart and affectionate one. A: *feeling worthless* B: *puts a blanket around A and hugs them* A: ..Why? B: Because I love you and you need affection. A: *completely confused why B would love them, but also too tired to question it* ...okay.

8:08 even better is when it goes both ways because they’re both really smart, just in very different fields, like microbiology and architecture or cyber criminology and medicine.

-the clumsy awkward one times the sweet elegant one who finds the awkwardness of the other one adorable -A has been through lots of trauma and abuse and B has had a pretty normal life. B respects A’s boundaries and A grows to feel safe around B

I'm a sucker for enemies to lovers and mutual pining, but if we're being specific: leader of the good guys who keeps up a strong, stoic persona for their team but is secretly very tired and very depressed x reformed villain who helps the leader feel more comfortable showing their emotions whilst the leader helps them overcome their trauma. the team slowly starts to get on better terms with former villain because the leader seems genuinely happy with them in spite of their snark and slyness and the villain is starting to soften up through spending time with the leader and listening to the ideals that the good guys stand for and realizing they might have a point yes this is Optimus Prime and Starscream, what of it?

A personal love for me is "Platonic marriage between Ace person and Aro person" like imagine the possibilities Edit: basically any platonic marriage between two people who don't feel attraction is fun to imagine

I have a good one: A and B aren't very close friends/have never interacted before. A secretly envies B' "perfect life", but once they get closer and start opening up about things, they realise that B hates their life as much as A does. Bonus points if they actually help each other fix the situations they don't like about life, and don't brush them off with a "I love you".

ill use two of mine that formed from my characters; A is an otherwordly creature that CANT feel love or any emotion other than negative ones but is slowly taught how to feel by a VERY determined love at first sight having B A being 'the coolest woman ever' and B being 'just a guy who loves them very much'

Two touch starved dorks who don't know how to relationship! 3) power trios as ot3s 4) a typical love triangle where the rivals fall for each other rather than the person they're fighting over 5) nerd/unpopular kid in a relationship with a different flavor of nerd/unpopular kid

Extremely chaotic bard type person that really tries to seduce everyone but can't And then they manage to seduce one person so they are extremely confused on what to do So the whole relationship dynamic is bard goes "random bullshit go!"to their lover and "I got to stop trying to seduce people when it already worked" while the lover has to deal with it

I've made an excel table to compare all my OTPs, and the dynamic trope that comes back the most is "feral scientist and their equally feral non-human counterpart", closely followed by "feral investigator and their tired non-human counterpart". They aren't mutually exclusive, weirdly enough !
