Sometimes I like to load up a canoe with good beer and good friends and head out on a canoe trip. My original backcountry camping experiences were in eastern Canada doing canoe trips around the lakes and rivers of Ontario. Every year, I try to do at least one multiday canoe trip somewhere in or near Alberta. The trip for 2019 was 4 days down the Red Deer River through some of the epic Alberta Badlands. Enjoy!

After seeing this video , I can't wait for summer to get here! Definitely looks like a fun time on the water! The night show was cool! That along with your usual fantastic scenery during the day is what made the video! Thanks as usual for sharing this adventure! Rick from Virginia

We had a very warm weekend (got up to 30F!) and it really had me thinking of summer. Hopefully the summer doesn't get disrupted too much!

I may have to retire from the backcountry rave scene unless I can figure out a way to make environmentally friendly glow sticks!

The reason you can camp below high water mark is because it's considered crown lands

I've been researching the Red Deer River for a few days now, for a trip from McKenzie Crossing to Drumheller, and I haven't found anything that said you can camp anywhere. I've mainly been looking at the rules for the Tolman Badlands Heritage Rangeland. I must have missed something important. Where did you find out that you can camp anywhere below the high water mark? Is that similar on all rivers in Alberta? Thanks so much!
@JustinOutdoors

It's part of multiple pieces of legislation and hard to tease apart unfortunately

Could I make Tolman Bridge from Content Bridge in 3 days? I think water levels and speed should will still be high thanks to all the rain.
@JustinOutdoors

Really depends on you and your abilities, length of time each day you want to paddle, gear, etc. I think some people have done Red Deer to Drumheller in 2 days.

Beauty! Planning on doing exactly that section this summer- is there any rapids of dicey spots?
@JustinOutdoors
@JustinOutdoors 3 года назад
Nothing super dicey. One little set of rapids that is more of an issue due to how shallow they are (in mid-summer). If people have paddling experience, they'll be fine :)
