You can drop stuff from your inventory by pressing 'R', i guess you missed that it says that when hovering over an item. Hunting has been added at this point in time aswell as fishing and farming.
It says on the store page there's a day/night cycle and changing seasons, and hunting. So yay. Agreed, think the thatch should kind of fall over the edge of the roof. And it looks like the R key will let you drop things.
