Relay 100m Final Melbourne 1956 Olympics Colour Footage 

I'm 74. Listened to this on the wireless age 10. Still the most exciting thrilling win in Olympic history. Made me realise as a little lad just how magnificent our female athletes are

WOW !!! Got clear footage of a young Wilma Rudolph running 3rd leg in lane 1 for the USA.

Cuthbert had an afterburner stride....she used it twice, seemingly throwing in a couple of extra high knee lifts...once after receiving the baton...and a kick close to the line as the Brit challenged her...impressive!

The great Betty, what an athlete. Came back in 64', won the 400m gold in Tokyo

Betty Cuthbert is the only athlete who has won Olympic gold in the 100m.the 200m and the 400m

Betty - what a legend.

Betty peaked as a 100-200 meter sprinter in her teens. Then, when her raw speed waned, and after a brief retirement, she switched to the 400.

Betty Cuthbert was only 16 at the time , and yet she competed against bigger stronger athletes. The difference was she was determined to get to finish line first with flat out speed, strength and determination.

Looks like Wilma Rudolph running a mighty bend on the third leg for the US.

Yes - but why was the 100 Bronze medalist - Mathews left out of the relay?? Its a question never fully explained.
