Thank you for all you do. I have been a musician for 20 years and have been reluctant to switch to digital computer from hard workstations. You've made it possible for an easy transition with your cakewalk videos. I really appreciated it.

Two things: The mastering service is not too shabby, and you can A/B it before you commit. And, I don't remember if it's a genre choice or not, but do NOT choose "soundtrack" unless it really is a soundtrack to something (film, TV, whatever). Some services will reject it otherwise.

I was wondering how to do this. Guess I will give it a try. Though I am leary as others seem to have mixed opinions, especially about spotify. 1000 streams?..That sounds really alot like youtube and the subscriber thing. I would be thrilled if i sold 10 songs per month , but not if I am just giving money to spotify. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for making the video:) Take good care🙏

I have just uploaded my latest song today. Admittedly, it is a remix of a song an earlier release. But it is appropriate as we are having a General Election in the UK. There is at least one more song to come in the next week or so. Thank you for you video.

Hi Mike - I have been using DistroKid for years - and releasing to RU-vid Music - so therefore, I have a "- Topic" channel on RU-vid. I recently received my Official Artist Channel (OAC) - so my "Topic" channel contents have been merged to my OAC so that everything is in one place. I also started making my own music videos - which I upload on my own to RU-vid. I found it quite confusing to have my OAC contain the old "Topic" video (which as you know is just a continual display of your artwork) and also my Official Music Video. In other words, songs were appearing with 2 versions. I have stopped selecting RU-vid Music during the DistroKid upload - so that this no longer happens with new releases. QUESTION: Do you believe this is a good approach/solution for me? Or is there any valid reason to let the "Topic" channel continue to populate (which is then echoed on my Official Artist Channel - creating the 2 versions)? Thanks Mike - I appreciate your input!

Hi Mike, thanks for the great information! I was wondering for titling of tracks, if the song is a bonus track on a deluxe version of an album, would that go in the "special version" dropdown part of the song title? Thanks, your videos are great and have helped me immeasurably as I'm learning how to record and publish my first album.

I make songs in multiple genres and languages. Should I separate them with different artist names or should I use my name and make them different albums?

Good information. Thanks Mike! Question: On the royalty tab, will distro kid handle the split for cover artists? Example (since you mentioned Mariah Carey) let’s say I produce, perform, record, and mix a cover of ‘Vision of Love’. Of course I can’t 100% of the royalties. Will that be decided and who gets what after distro kid gets all the clearances? Thanks.

Gi there. Great question. You get 100% of the royalties, and the $1 per song per month covers the rest I believe.

I signed up for distrokid and put one song through. I am paranoid about their fake streams and banning you from the platform for no reason. I have seen at least a dozen people who said distrokid said, "spotify informed them that 100% of the streams they got are fake". When they contacted spotify they denied saying any such thing. Someone is lying.

Thanks so much! Very helpful walkthrough. Am I allowed to release a "spoof" song cover, where I credit the original songwriter, but the performance has my alternate lyrics? How would that be entered?

Thanks Mike. I have made inquiries to Distrokid but haven't gotten any responses. Do you happen to know of any mechanism or recommended procedure for track replacement (if a better version becomes available). Also is there any recommendations for a catalogue if a person has to close their Distrokid account?

I no longer release put music on Spotify as they won’t pay royalties for artists that get less than 1000 streams.

Distrokid is COMPLETE BS. It's like giving your soul to the money devil. Only RU-vidrs that are sponsored by DistroKid are making a tiny bit of money. Don't get fooled.... ,👎
