I knew Will, "Sonny" Sampson, and his set rule was to only take on respectable roles that would make Native Americans proud. After his big break out in "Cuckoo's Nest", Sonny was in such demand, he was offered countless movies, paying big bucks. However, Sonny always said "he couldn't be bought", by Hollywood or anyone, to act in any movie that compromised his values or his integrity!! Sonny always tried to be a role model for his people, and all people.

Thank you so much for bringing this movie to us. This movie was outstanding and moved us. Don't even know how to tell you how much I appreciate it this movie. Outstanding!
Been looking for this for ages , Will Sampson was my hero , seeing another Indian on screen was amazing , this was when we were referred to as “American Indians”. … for the life of me I can’t remember when “Native American” was first used , but this is back when we were Indians , and seeing another Indian on tv , and actually the hero / leading man was mind blowing …. RIP WILL SAMPSON ahhh juicy fruit
An enjoyable film. I always liked Will, RIP. As an experienced outdoor person, I never understand how these guys never carry water, whilst out in the hills. No matter how cold, I still need water whilst walking over hills and valleys.
Great upload, thumbs up! Will Sampson has been in many awesome movies. His biggest was probably One Flew Over The Cookoos Nest with Jack Nicholson. He starred opposite Clint Eastwood in Outlaw Josey Wales. He was also a screen writer, producer and director. His is a distinguished career in films. Another good one was The White Buffalo.
If you are a fan of Will Sampson you might be interested to know that there's a new video on youtube in memory of him that contains rare childhood photos as well as a variety of pictures that I hope will honor him. Just Google Remembering Will Sonny Sampson Jr. if you'd like to check it out. I hope people will think it does him justice.
Will was such a class act. He never took roles that conflicted with his core. I commend that in a day and time where most would sell their own mother for a dollar.
Boy this was a really good movie and thanks so much for the upload. Anyone who passes on this one will miss the boat for sure~!!!! The 26 dislikes don't deserve to live~!!!!

I used to flatbed truck thru Navajo country. Paige, Window Rock, Kayenta and Tuba City. All Navajos for hundreds of miles. I stayed a night in Kayenta. Everyone in that town is Native. All Walmart employees from mgt to checkout people, cops, hotel employees. All Navajo. Cool people. I recommend the movie "Cowboys and Indians the J.J. Harper Story" with Adam Beach. Free on youtube. True story.
Wonderful Contemporary Western... Will Sampson surely does 'GRAVITAS'! ... How pleasant is it to watch a movie, an engrossing story, without the WOKE snootiness, snarkiness and vulgarity of today!! ... (Please, keep me away from the WOKE people.)

Any movie with Will Sampson, Wes Studi, Adam Beech, Chief Dan George, Graham Greene, or Russell Means are always worth a look. So much talent in the NA community and so few roles. I remember when Will passed away and I was crushed by his death. He truly was a kind spirit, humorous and giving. He reminds me of my relatives on and off the Rez. The men are huge and of few words while the women tend to be petite and social. The world always felt safer when you were around them.

Have always greatly enjoyed everything I saw Will Sampson in. He could do more with a stare or look than many actors can do with their whole body! Upright, implacable, i.e., RELENTLESS. All without screaming abuse & foul language. Excellent! Wish there was a whole lot more of his work to see.
Have you ever googled Will Sampson movies to get a list of the films he's been in--- there's about 15 total, big screen and made for TV. I will recommend the Canadian film Fish Hawk as a must see where like Relentless Will plays the main character, and gives a stellar performance. He actually won The Canadian Film Award ( like an Oscar or an Emmy) for his role in the film. Perhaps you already know about all of this. Also, he did the 70's show Vegas with Robert Urick. I hope this has been a help. Happy movie watching!!🤗
Don’t think you could make a film like this today. There’s an honesty and a truth to this film and the time it was made. Mr William Samson always does justice to the roles he plays. Thanks
Will is still alive. He faked his death to live a quiet life. He lives now In Butte (Montana). I had a drink with him about a month ago. Great guy. Still very sprightly for a 103 year old guy.

Thanks for the info Gin, I will check it out. J Paul, I think that as long as it is in a positive view that it is great. Jim Calder him & Russell Means should've been credited much more in their role of Native Acting in the 70s. So lucky to have met him wish i could've lived in the 70s to meet Will Sampson he seemed like a real calm quiet man. He did good in One flew over ones cuckoo nest & this one & others. I live in Arizona always a joy to see the AZ Flag symbol patch on a state trooper. Look up on RU-vid "we are these People" its an excerpt where he talks of the greatness of the trees & living nature around & how much the Native in that time has lived to come to in ones life. Its beautiful
I loved watching Will Sampson as a kid. Reminds me a lot of my grandpa. He was 90% Native. I remember the stories he shared with me the last two years of his life.
its a simple and entertaining production but to me it highlights how we all grew up on "woke" storytelling that some political types complain about constantly today

Beautiful music with the movie. I loved his last words to the colonel. I’ve never seen anything with Will Sampson in it before. Thanks for making me aware of him. My name is Winona which in the Sioux Dakota means firstborn or eldest daughter. However, it was my x sister-in-law’s name. I guess my daddy just liked the name because that’s what he named me. I’m definitely not his firstborn daughter. He had three daughters by his first wife, before he married my mother and I came along. I had a niece who was nearly the same age as I was.
@@winonamassingill7895 You can google Will Sampson movies to get a list of all big screen and made for TV films Will was in. He was an amazing actor and gave stellar performances in each movie he did. However One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest was his very first and very famous film in which many people feel he was the essential character! You really should see that one!!! Also, there is another great movie (where he plays the leading role), that is now being shown on youtube for free titled Fish Hawk. I've seen every one of Will's 23 films and I feel Fish Hawk was his best. He did win The Canadian Film Award for his performance in it, which is the Canada version of an Oscar. This is a very very good movie. It's got me hooked. Will Sampson plays his part with dignity and makes this part most suspenseful. Everything the FBI guy, Monte Markham, needs to listen to him and take his lead. But Sam stands his ground. Now I've seen Monte Markham in many series haven't seen him around in a long time. It's a darn good movie with darn good acting
Good film. Takes its time getting started, but once it gets going its good. Will was in a lot of films, always in a brief role, but he is a good actor. Pity he never got any recognition. Thank you for posting
@Takeshi hiraoka, Sonny (Will Sampson) was in over 15 films in his 12 year acting career before his passing in 1987, but the best picture he ever made, where he played the lead character was the Canadian film. "Fish Hawk", for which he won The Canadian Film Award for his stellar performance. That award was equal to winning an Oscar. Many people feel it was his best film, as he also felt that way. He liked how deep and complex his character Fish Hawk was, and how he overcame the demons in his life and found his own honorable truth. You may have already seen Fish Hawk, but if not you can watch it on youtube for free. It's worth your time!! You can also google Will Sampson paintings to look at some of Sonny's artwork. He was an award winning artist all of his life and would always say he made movies to pay for his art supplies. Most of his paintings are now with family and loved ones, or hanging in famous museums such as The Smithsonian Museum of Art. Yaa'te'eh my friend.👍
I was in high school in Camp Verde when this movie was filmed. The cast was fun and very nice. Didn't meet Monte Marcum or John Hllerman, but Larry Wilcox and Will Sampson were delightful. Much nicer than the cast of Kingdom of the Spiders when they filmed later on that year.
even though i remember the chief from other movies back then, this was my first experience with this excellent & enjoyable production when film was an art. thanks

Yes, Fish Hawk is good. There is a youtuber named Jerry Skinner, he does bio's about actors and famous people, they run 15 minutes or so, he does one on Will Sampson. He has a lot of good info in it, you should give it a watch if you get a few minutes to spare.

I know you are trying to be "politically correct" by referring to Will as a "Native American," but most INDIANS today would rather be called INDIANS. They do not want any thing "American" to be associated with their name. I am very friendly with a family of pure Cherokees who organize many pow-wows. All of the tribes and my Indian friends refer to themselves as INDIANS. They actually hate the label of "native American. The word Indian is from two Spanish words, "in Dio" which means "with" or "in god." This is a much more fitting name for the Keepers of the Earth. They always kid me and laugh when I spell the word American as AmeriKKKan. They agree because they know this country to be racist and has the national personality of the bigoted killers, the KKK. AmeriKKKa was NEVER their country and was not what they called it before the white Europeans decided to kill most of these early inhabitants. The term "native American" came into being around the late to early 50s and 60s. It was some dumb white guy who figured they did not want to be called by the name Columbus first called them - In Dio. Unfortunately, this jerk only took into account the way the Spanish abused the Indians, he did not think about the nearly 200 years of worse abuse by AmeriKKKans, this is even after the Indians were considered citizens of this supposed "great" nation.
there are HUNDREDS of indian tribes, yet when whites pretend to be Indians they ALWAYS, ALWAYS pick "Cherokee". I guess it's the only one they know or they think it has the coolest name. fucking losers.
