Actually, majority of spiritual faith in China is a mixture of Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, local belief and a bit of shamanism plus ancestral worship. No actual or specific religion or spiritual doctrine. It all depends on the local cultures and traditions. Spiritual practices may be different due to dialects among the Han Chinese.

Personally, I think in China we have freedom to all religion excepts those can be recognized as cults and terrorism. However, the reason behind it may due to most of us dont really having a belief of religions...... And thus government just don't care about any religions as none of them could influence their power. Some people said that China doesn't have any religious holidays, like Christmas, because religion is banned in China. However, I think differently. China doesn't ban any religion but treats every religion fairly. Christmas is a Christian celebration, right? If Christians can have holidays for their religious celebration, How about Buddhism, Taoism, Muslim, and others? There are too many different kinds of religion in China. If all have holidays for their celebration, Chinese people won't have a workday in a whole long year.

Buddhism was introduced to China relatively early, so Chinese Buddhism has been changed a lot. In ancient China, as long as Buddhism dared to interfere in politics, it would be suppressed by the emperors. After Buddhism was suppressed several times in the past 2000 years, Buddhism today is very friendly, peaceful, and will never involve politics. Taoism is a native religion, and it has also been suppressed many times in the past two thousand years, therefore Taoism is now very peaceful and dare not involve politics either. Christianity and Islam have not experienced such a process of change in China, and these two religions are still 。。。kinds of outsiders in the minds of Chinese people. But Buddhism, a religion from the other country, has already been part of the Chinese culture.

No state agency, social organization, or individual may compel citizens to believe in or not to believe in a religion, and must not discriminate against citizens who believe in religion or citizens who do not believe in religion. That’s because Christianity made followers never to believe all the other “false gods”. The one and only ... Wherever Christians went, other religions quickly disappeared. @@willengel2458 I agree with your take that 'worship' is not the proper term. In a way it is a form of ritual based on ancestral patronage obligation with no religious dogma attached. A matter of paying respects to our forebears. Rituals are acceptable form of human behavior. There's also the sinister part on why the west called it 'worship' so that they can label you as 'pagans' if you don't worship their Abrahamic gods, notice how the brainwashing mechanism works.

@Ailin.Chen.2046 3 года назад
I'm not sure I agree with your expression... China don’t tolerate cult for sure. But anyone with or without religion can interfere or rather influence politics in China; for example the representatives in the National People's Congress can have or don't have religion since it's religious freedom in China, and it is compulsory that there should have representatives from the minority groups with or without religion in the National People's Congress, especially the minority groups are the ones that mostly likely to have religious beliefs. Religions will always have certain influence in politics in China because the minority groups are a very important part of China; religion and politics don't contradict, as long as there is a good balance, and certain religions don't go extreme. And for me personally, I consider Taoism, Confucianism are more like philosophy than religion, unlike Catholicism, Christianity, Islamism etc.

Congratulations on the featuring with CGTN 😁 most of people are not religious what I see around my friends and family but they have many religious places. Shenyang does not ban any religions but are still a little bit strict about which religions are allowed to be followed. In Shenyang only Buddhist, Taoist, Roman Catholic, Muslim, and Protestant people were allowed to hold religious ceremonies or worship services.

As a Chinese, I think the biggest religion is Taoism,or the thought of "Tao". The influence of this kind of thinking is so profound that most foreign beliefs adapt to the environment and are not so aggressive. For example, when Christian preaching, he dare not promote "there is only one God" to outsiders.

To be fair, religion is of course not banned or even persecuted in China as west media present, but there are certainly more restrictions than in many Western countries, such as not being allowed to preach outside religious venues. But I don't think these limitations are bad things.

The first arrival of a branch of Christianity (景教) to China during the Tang dynasty. The funniest thing at that time the Chinese edition of the Bible was translated by those monks who understood Greek, which was several centuries earlier than that of in English. However, the first edition was a Bible using Buddhism terminology, making it very funny to read. A Tang Chinese stele erected in 781 at Xi'an that documents 150 years of early Christianity in China.

Learned 2 things when I stopped by China 10 yrs ago - affirmative actions (for schools) for 50 minority groups in China and no restriction in child bearing. Our tour guide a local minority told me. Han people had 30 yrs of 1 child policy and just recently only allowed 2 - em, I wonder why no one said anything about genocide of ~30% of humanity for 30 yrs and counting? I am ashamed of our politicians. Like tibet, it was a serf society (slavery) and all the slave owners are raising hell because all the slaves are now middle class in China. Go see it yourself!
