The very act of praying reinforces the idea that bribing is the ultimate act of supplication. When we need assistance from someone in a vantage position (like gods), then appeasing them (endless prayers) is regarded as the true measure of submission, hence religion simply normalizes corruption and makes it a way of life. Religion, as opposed to genuine spirituality, is a true curse and a weapon used to bend people into submission

HI Wanjiku, am Justin in Nairobi kenya am suprised how people are brain washed, RELIGION is the first basic root of all this, we tend to believe what we cant understand. The conflict in the world is not between good and evil its between one man belief versus another man's belief. Its always GOOD to accept you don't know, for most people tend to turn in believing in something when they don't know. We cant pray away bad government, VERY TRUE. I have watched a lot of videos on most developed countries,peaceful ones and least corrupt, simple thing, the more the religion the more people become stupid and easily controlled AND THE POORER THE NATION. why did i make that comment, we have been brainwashed, DON'T QUESTION THE MAN OF GOD, DON'T QUESTION SOMEONE OLDER THAN YOU, DON'T QUESTION THE GOVERNMENT...All this through FEAR, yes we have been programmed and controlled by fear and consequences. We are brainwashed that all will be well after death. I pray Chess, so i do a lot of thinking, see the final thing is we are brainwashed more to think of the after life than what we are to do more on this world. We think there is a supreme God who will Give Justice....CONCLUSION-THERE IS NOTHING WE ARE SUPPOSED TO DO ABOUT IT, JUST BARK N BARK(TALKING N TALKING). AS we talk more people are dying hungry, people are missing the basic needs,health food water poor roads...not because there isn't enough resources but because a FEW PEOPLE DECIDE TO KEEP IT ALL AND ENRICH THEMSELVES. These demons will come to church, given podium after the mass (of course the church recognizes the politicians) to address the congregation, the person seated on the Alter who is closer to God and very well knows these are thieves in the name of politician cant do anything about it. THE SUMMARY IS WE HAVE BEEN PROGRAMMED BY RELIGION AND WE HAVE BECOME VERY WEAK, ITS THE ONLY THING STOPPING US FROM ACHIEVING OUR DREAMS OTHERWISE WHY WOULD A NATION THAT IS ATHEIST/ NON RELIGIOUS BE MORE SUCCESSFUL, DOES IT MEAN GOD LOVE THEM MORE THAN US WHO SPEND THOUSANDS OF HOURS PRAYING OR IS IT THAT THEY APPLY LOGIC AND BECOME MORE SUCCESSFUL.

You are making a good point too. But as I said my other comment (the one you commented on). For most societies around here, religion has proven to be the only unifying factor, the only common ground on which different tribes band together. From the points you raised, I feel the problem is not religion, it is rather about separation of religion and politics with regulations. We should allow people to believe in whatever ridiculous beliefs they want to, but we should also make sure to regulate who is allowed to found a religious organisations and if possible standards.

Like the first guy said, the main problem of religion is making people wait for miracles... We have the power in our hands even without religion to put strict laws and enforce them... some religions preach forgiveness... tell me how that helps in fight against corruption.
@Dee-lm5ov
@Dee-lm5ov Год назад
Forgiveness but only with evidence of repentence. Yet justice has to be applied. Because there has to be accountability. The problem is many people claim to be religious but are not accountable to the standards and principles of said religion.

If we are talking about corruption, what are the metrics we use to measure?
@jimangela4589
@jimangela4589 5 лет назад
Corruption and power do not mix well. Decentralized power reduces corruption. There is an old saying from Lord Acton: "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." No where is this most obvious than in the 2,000 year history of the Catholic Church. It isn't the religion that infects, it is power that infects.

I think we need to dis-aggregate the issues for more a more meaningful discussion of the subject. First, the fact that someone subscribes to a specific religion does not make him/her an effective practitioner of the tenets of the religion. Second, religion in itself was a tool and pathway to disrupting the high moral values of the African. Take Christianity, this was introduced to Africa by European missionaries. Having offered them a home, they ended up colonizing us. In many ways, religion was used as the tool to breakdown our guards. Our own religion, the Traditional African region has never and will never promote corruption. Avid practitioners of it are disciplined and of high moral standards. They fear evil, including corruption. It was when we as a people moved from this that corruption began to take roots. I don´t know of a practitioner of the African Traditional Religion who would swear by his gods and lie in a court of law. All others swear by the Bible, and Q´ran alike and proceed to lie big time, Africa and beyond. I am not a religious advocate, especially when it has become a barrier that divides us. The problem with us, Africans, and corruption is that we have been brainwashed and even in our liberation, mostly following independence, we have yet to liberate our very own minds. We have become like an animal that was tied for a long time and who upon removal of its leash, remains in the same position because it does not know that it is free. Religion is neither what corrupts nor makes us poor. Some of the world´s most religious nations equally rank among the least corrupt and the richest. This is not the place for example, because that does not incite innovation on our path. Rather, we become blind copycats who will not discover our own potential. We need to begin to think as free people and act as people of freedom. We young people need to start working ourselves out and holding our leaders to responsibility. This does not mean that you cannot be religious. You can be religious all you want but above all, be forward thinking African. We need a new generation of young radical Africans who are willing to do whatever it takes to break the vicious cycle of corruption and the bondage its leaves our people in. I count myself among this group and that´s why I have started the BREAKOUT AFRICA (breakoutafrica.com) initiative. With it, I provide a platform where young Africans will not only complain about the issues that challenge us but offer alternatives as well as build the Movement required to transform our continent. Please feel free to visit the website (breakoutafrica.com) inform yourselves and contribute. Believe me when I say that it will not be easy because our enemies are many. But with you, I mean you, and I, together, having done our best, can in our dying days speak with pride to the next generation of African and with much joy, rather than grief and regrets to meet the maker or whoever it is that you may worshiping.

Well said my brother. I'm not here to pick on any religion, but I think you made a good point about religion disrupting our moral values. Indeed, practitioners of traditional African beliefs are more trustworthy to deal with, although they can be very vengeful when the trust is breached. But at least, their observation of morals are stricter than the non-traditional religions. The notion of "you can always be forgiven if you seek God", I believe is the major cause of corruption. We've been brainwashed to the extent that we have no conscience about our daily transgressions, there's nothing wrong with demanding money for a service that's supposed to have been paid for by the government. The policeman finds nothing wrong with charging the victim some money before taking action in the name of justice. And again, we believe justice will be meted on the judgement day. With these notions, it's no wonder corruption is so prevalent. But as I've commented previously, religion is actually a key unifying factor in most parts of our continent. Corruption is born from lack of morality, which is what religion is failing to teach in this dog-eat-dog world, where money trumps everything, where the end does not necessarily justify the means. It's rather sad that morals are being eroded away with 'religiously secular' ideas. This, I believe is the actual cause of our woes, not religions or factions.

@@clementoseitano7568 Some really interesting points. I keep wondering, how can we channel the unifying ability of religion to deliver development? Do we take stringent measures to regulate it? Because in its current form, where people spend more than half of their productive life to pray away their sins, we really are losing a lot in terms of productivity.
@clementoseitano7568
@clementoseitano7568 5 лет назад
@@ericmensahkumeh4069 I'm no expert on the matter, but in my opinion, since churches and most religious organisations have become profit making ventures, I definitely wish we could regulate them to create businesses and offer employment, by mandate. They can't be using labour of their members for free, labour laws should equally apply to them. As for people spending most of their time in churches, there's little I know of that can be done about it. Even if we regulate churches to hold a service only once a week, we can't stop people from spending their entire time praying either

Most people won't change no matter what type of teachings we impart on them. Religion is part of the solution but not entirely. This is because there are different religions all over Africa. What we need to do is unite Africa through a single culture. Culture is a complete solution because it could mean one language, one religion, one currency and one tribe.......AFRICA!

1:25, Botswana is not a good measure of most metrics in Africa. They are not facing a lot of the issues most other African nations are facing because they are mostly people of one ethnic group, with all other ethnic groups combined being less than a quarter of the major group. In such a place, it's hard to show nepotism (a major source of corruption and incompetence here) because chances are, all the people you are dealing with are from the same ethnic background as you.
@nickykitsi5796
@nickykitsi5796 3 года назад
I am a Botswana national and you are somewhat right. Botswana though does have a many ethnic/tribal groups, my personal opinion is how the founding fathers in 1966 embarked on a nation-wide tribal unification programme rather than a tribal one. Public Officers were job placed in districts where they did not originate and overtime married in those districts so if you hate one tribe or you want to do harm either by corruption or tribalism of nepotism then your are hurting your son, daughter, niece or nephew!!!

In summary: Poverty isolates the poor. Corrupt people are less isolated while they are often lying to their poor peers about what they know concerning the outside world while they are rising to power. Rising to power into a position where their true nature to all starts being epxressed at the expense of everyone else around them. A few odd outlying corrupt persons can be found in every large community. Educating people about that fact of life and how to avoid people like that who refuse to change their ways as if they are only tax collectors while it is not tax season right now early on is important. However of what use is educating people about how to limit the influence of corruption in their own lives coming from corrupt people while people from minorities including women too continue to be epxected to live like slaves to the corrupt?
