I'm baffled at this video. I was expecting a bashing against the Catholic side of things as that seems to be the norm but this video represents the very best of the Catholic side and shows the authenticity that does exist even though many monastic houses have abandoned it. This is truly a good video but I'm confused as to the point. Is it just to show how both practice prayer and ascetic life? Then great!

They pray in Latin, they wear the Mantilla, they celebrate the sacrifice of our Lord and partake in the flesh and blood of Jesus Christ. Modernism is failing, and the Pontificate is terrified

@@toythief1633 - that's simply full of assumptions. See what people think about the Amazon Synod. All over the world, people are starting to realise the modernist pontificate is in the wrong here. And within twenty years, it will be mainstream. All of the modernists are aging, and the younger folk are going to instill traditional values into THEIR children. Modernist Catholicism, as you said, won't survive the century, but the gates of hell shall not prevail over the Church. That I am certain. Seeing how we don't schism over a single country, even though theologically the Russians and Greeks are near identical.
You should say Roman catholic...cause there are all types of rite even those orthodox which are now joining had become catholic are in Catholic church and have the name catholic.... Saying we're Roman catholic is more specific....
After reading the comments on this thread, I must say that I see Catholics condemning Orthodox and vice versa. This is sad. What we see are two cultural traditions, both founded and operating under apostolic succession. Many of the commentators are making false statements about the beliefs and practices of the others. I was born into and raised in the Orthodox Church and those rituals portrayed in this video were more familiar to me, however I respect those of the Catholic Church, even Novus Ordo, when they are prayed in earnest by believers seeking to communicate with God. The God I know and believe in would certainly accept heartfelt prayers of any believer -- no matter what the liturgical tradition or diocesan affiliation.

I'm saying that It's not consistent. As for the reasoning of the Papacy, it's Clear: Christ said that Simon Peter was the cornerstone, the foundation to his church; Peter was the shepherd if Christ's Church, and he was the Bishop of Rome. The bishop of Rome is meant to be the shepherd of the Church. That's how it's possible
Brothers, we do not need to emphasize the differences between these two churches. We should focus on how they are related and was once a whole. In all fairness, there have been efforts made recently to somehow unify the two. What is more important is that we remain faithful to the Gospel of Jesus. The main problem with us is that we tend to be too dogmatic when it comes to these things. Sabbath was made for men and not men for Sabbath. A clean and contrite heart is much pleasing to the Lord than any burnt offerings. God bless us all!
When talking about Sabbath Jesus wasn't talking about dogmas. Without dogma you are susceptible to being deceived by Antichrist or the devil who can transform itself in an angel of light. Because of dogmas we still stand Orthodox and we will stand like this forever.
It doesnt show the 'whole and proper aspects of both liturgy and ascetic life' for Catholic Christianity either...because its a short video. I ask, is what you really mean is that it doesnt show catholicism in a negative light?

You have included many different orders in the video - perhaps it would be useful to identify each of them? As you know, I'm sure, there is no "one" religious life in The Catholic Church. There is great diversity among religious orders in discipline, dress, charisms, etc. Thank you for another nice video!
It's a matter of spiritual taste. Like, I prefer oranges and you apples. Religious life in the east tends to the anchorite while in the West the tendency is to the cenobite. Both these traits exists in both traditions as well.
Not a fair comparison, because the Latin mass is the minority of Catholic life these days, especially in North America and Europe. You must show comparisons with the Novus Ordo as well. No such thing exists in the Orthodox East, and so it would show a different picture.

That doesn't make sense. How can the episcopacy not be Catholic in the Catholic church? The whole "on this rock" thing is Roman Catholicism's biggest self touted claim against the Orthodox (Catholic) Church. To say that the Pope and his bishops are not Catholic from a Catholic is the same thing as saying the whole Catholic church is not Catholic. I agree that the Novus Ordo is an embarrassment and a mess though. It's quite out of control in many places, and night and day compared with the traditional Tridentine Mass.

Actually in reality there is an ontologicall difference between orthodox and carholism .what one see as DEITY Uncreated the other see it as something created .i am talking about the energies ενέργειες οf God in orthodox theology they are seen as DEITY and allways uncreated ,in catholism as something created.
That's funny. I went to Mexico City to the Guadeloupe Shrine in 1986. Though the church was ultra modern, it still exuded the traditional piety of the people, for example, the floor was thoroughly blanketed in rose petals and the the devotion was palpable. Upon returning to America, EVERYTHING seemed fake, sterile, and plastic. ☦Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on this country. We need a REAL spiritual awakening. Both the fake, hippy, "spirituality" of Vatican II, and the angry, legalistic piety of far too many "traditionalists", lead one downward. God save us all.
Go to a Catholic church that offers the ancient Tridentine Mass and you will see a liturgy on par with an Orthodox liturgy. It will have a vertical dimension, and there will be no talk about social action and other mundane matters in the sermon. (There are other venues for that.) You will notice that people behave devoutly, and dress respectably, and all of your senses will be "assaulted" and employed in Divine worship, by incense, chant, beautiful vestments, colors, etc. The Mass in the west was as "orthodox" as the Byzantine rite was in the east before the schism in 1054 AD. For this reason there are groups of western Orthodox Christians today who identify as Orthodox, but who use Catholic liturgy of the west.
the first thing that needs to be clarified is that there is not something called Orthodox Church, there are many Orthodox churches, for example in Ukraine there are 3 rival Orthodox churches ... and there are many Orthodox churches that do not recognize each other, for example the Orthodox Church in America has no recognition .. Eastern Orthodox churches have nothing to do with eg Egyptian Copts or Ethiopians or Apostolic Armenians .. that is, you can not compare 2 things when one of the 2 has no unity or unique doctrine .. The problem of the Orthodox churches are their national divisions, each one that creates a new country, creates a new doctrine that clashes with all the previous..example is Abkhazia that now clashes with the Orthodox Church of Georgia .. the catholic church has a single leader and a single doctrine no matter how many countries they believe is the same authority in the whole world: the pope in rome. This can authorize various rites and dioceses and eparchies but maintaining the same unit of 20 centuries .. Another thing that ignores the "comparison" is that the Catholic Church has 2 large groups: the western church that follows the Roman rite and the 23 oriental ''churches'' (which follow various rites including the Byzantine, and which are dioceses that were reunified with the church catholic with headquarters in Rome, but keeping its traditions) that is, many of the rites of the Eastern Orthodox churches of Europe are also rites used by the church

I don't know the author of this video but it appeared, to me, they wanted to convey that Roman Catholic practice ascetic life but at a more basal level than Orthodox. But both are clearly conveyed as ascetic. There are main differences in these two religions which are not reconcilable and should NOT be based upon the dogmatic interpretations of the Roman Catholic who believe they have a living Christ figure to make changes while the entire point of The Church and Church Fathers was clearly to preserve the witness of Christ and his message and not to make changes to the message nor believe one mortal can be the Christ in the form of the title of "Pope". ( These are not the true Apostolic Church teachings}. I love the Eastern Orthodox ability to show the beauty of the divine and therefore the ornate surroundings that shift one into higher states of divine connection to God. The ornateness reflects the glory and majesty of God. That one is truly experiencing Heaven on Earth. The Roman Catholic insist upon celibacy when Jesus the Christ being a jew would have to be married. (thus Council of Nicea to ban many books). How can one advise when one has no experience with marriage of another human being. There is a reason Roman Catholic have this stipulation while the Orthodox allow marriage.
So according to you, St. Paul did not know what he was talking about regarding marriage because he was celibate? You're being silly. I will tell you how Catholic priests give advice on that state of life. The same way they have done it for 2,000 years. You sound just as silly trying to explain the role of the Bishop of Rome, ignoring other Eastern churches which also name their bishops Pope, all who act in the person of Christ. It seems to me you are just trying to cause further division because you can't bear to see two churches reconcile and become one again. Go away.

As a roman catholic, i have the utmost love and admiration for our orthodox brothers. but their incessant paranoid - searching every shadow for a Catholic plot to get them - is really getting on my nerves. they have grand and elegant liturgy like the pharisees. but their hearts are vengeful and hateful against the catholics. where is the love of Christ ? they use dogma and doctrine to justify their hatred. they quote history and the fall of constantinople to hate all roman catholics. They are like the annoying sibling brother for whom i will give my life, but could never understand why he hates me so. during debates the muslims quote me the examples of fights between the orthodox churches themselves. forget ecumenism guys. Only when the Lord returns these guys will change.
