I've been reloading for 40+ years. Started with shotgun for weekly clay shoots with my dad and brothers. This video was great for people looking to understand this aspect of the reloading process. Well done, sir.

If anyone’s interested in shotgun reloading, we do 8 different gauges, all shell lengths, and all types of shot & slugs. We pattern test everything including factory ammo. Reloading is a ton of fun, Eric and Chad actually turned us on to it years ago in an old video they did.

I started reloading 3 years ago and had no idea I’d geek out on it as much as I have. It’s super satisfying working up accurate ammo to a specific firearm. If you’re planning on making more reloading videos, I’m looking forward to it.

Very generous to post a reloading tutorial. Many these days charge a fee for a "class" The man that took time from his day to show me the basics of reloading was as much interested in my safety as educating me in the process. His only request was that once I got it down was to share the knowledge with whoever was interested and pass the obligation on down the line. I've watched some of these videos on yoohoo, and there's those that after a while you can that they obviously don't know what they're talking about

I have reloading components coming out of my ears and have been trying to teach some of the neighbors. Only one interested is a gal my age in her 60s. Sent her videos on basics. She said she's in. And helped her research and order what she needed. I've been using a couple different single stage presses since 1981. She ordered the Lee Auto setup. She lives just across the street. Set it up for straight wall 9mm she has. And tried it out. WOW! FAST! Had a batch of 100 loaded up in minutes. Since I set her up with lb of powder and brick of primers. She let's me come over and load up my pistol calibers. Mainly a FM 45 10in barrel. Lighter than a Thompson. And takes 26 rd Carbine magazines. I tell people because I hear a lot of will it take a Glock magazine. The FM 45 Carbine magazine will fit in a Model 41 or 21 Glock. But ain't no Glock magazines in my collection. SASS competitor since 1981.

Seasoned reloader here, I really like what you said about buying the Lee manual: read it, then read it again. That's actually exactly what I did years ago. The book kind of made sense for the first reading, then a lot more so the second time, and then once I started reloading, it all fell into place. I guess with your stockpile of cheap primers from years ago though, you did not realize that the primer companies that you mentioned just are not available anymore, at least not since early 2020. Same with the APS strips; I have not seen any of those in years. I wish there were still lots of choices in primers, but there just is not at this time. Thanks for the interesting video. It is always good to hear good educated and SAFE reloading practices being shared.

Before you start. I just bought 1,000 Remington 9 1/2 primers. I have CCI 200 and 250 by the hundreds. You Tube guy said to use heavier primers for autoloading rifles. I went to Schields and the smart fellow there sent me home with the 9 1/2s. I have been using Speers reloading manual and they don't have 9 1/2 in them. Dug up NRA's Handloading book, where they do use the Remington 9 1/2 and had nice chart. CCI 200 = Remington 9 1/2s. Now, back to your video to learn more. Thanks. P. S. I had asked about the 34 heavy primer, yet helpful fellow had me walk out with the 9 1/2s.

I saved myself so much trouble. I bought the Lee classic Turet press starter kit. with the precision drum powder measure and scale. the Lee priming system is so simple right there on the press while you're doing everything you only have to handle the cartridge once. once the powder charge in the drum measure is precisely set it stays exactly set. case actuated powder drop is very neat only spills when I make mistakes. the bullet seating die is able to hold 005 seating depth repeatability easily. factory crimping die. they're hard to get out if you make a mistake so I guess it works. buy the whole bundle in one box save yourself a lot of agony and stuff you don't need sitting around. once you have the powder charge set. you can use the precision scale to check every once in awhile during a run of 100. it repeats within one tenth of a grain!

Been trying to get started in reloading, but just haven't dove into it yet. Have everything I need, except time. And you showed a sleeve of large rifle primers, which are basically a myth in my area. I could reload 5.56, 9mm, .45ACP all day long, and be able to purchase the primers needed, but try to reload some .308, and once I am out of primers, I am done. Very good explanation of primers though.

I have a Martini Henry MkII, a Nepalese Snyder, a Dutch Beaumont, a French Gras, and various other things that I'm going to have to learn how to load for. Great video. Good to see you back. We have missed you. I dove head first back into my favorite hobbys after a bad time. Glad to see to see you back into it. QUESTION PLEASE. Bullet diameter for 7.62 x 39. From what I researched the projectiles are larger than a 308. Same as 303 at 3.11 dia. I don't know anybody that has a AK or SKS anymore. That I can measure the inside barrel diameter versus the AR Barrel in same caliber. The inside bore diameter matches 30-30 308 30-06 and 300 Win Mag. If I can use the 308 bullets its a win win. ALSO: Will there be any issues using 308 bullets in 3.11 reloading Dies? I'm sure I can find the inside diameter of a SKS or AK online but I'd rather get it from a actual reloader like yourself. Have you or any viewers come across any problems using standard wolf or tula 7.62x39 out of a 308 Barrel? Thanks keep up the great work. Haven't come across one yet but wondering if you have done a meltdown on a cmmg dedicated 22 Upper? Or the kit in a standard AR upper? Boring stuff. Reloading since 1981 for SASS competition when I was 21. Recently gifted a most of a 20 year old AR-AK Kit made by frontier arms. Never reloaded 7.62x39 and curious. Ordered Brass, more large primers Tula uses small primers. I'm a layed back guy since I retired from Marine Corps. Don't ride the xr650r as often since getting knocked off another motorcycle by a illegal. I'm still very Anal about using right components. Cheap or ill-fitted parts will get you hurt or Kilt? Maybe to death. Being sponsored by the gun store I worked at for years really helped with reliading supplies. Have near 120lb of 8 types of pistol and rifle powder from out living my all my friends. Sixteen thousand primers. Bob left me 3 case of Bench LR primers. I only met him twice but we talked reloading for hours. Also left me 40lb of that 120lb of powder in a regulation POWDER CAGE I felt I needed to build. And Just wanted to pass on if anybody uses a SWAMP COOLER. Be extremely cautious of moisture in every component. Why do I use a swamp cooler? $53 a month running 24-7 Vs $220 a month running Ac 12 hours a day. The factory stock M400 Big block 77 F-150 4x4 gets more looks and thumbs up per Gallon than it does miles per gal. I'm smiling anytime I fire it up. So saving on heating and cooling really helps. Fyi factory Am Fm 8 track player Still works! Dang side tracked again. Ya'll have a great day.
@Dragonfiregum
@Dragonfiregum 8 дней назад
The proper way to find out is to slug the barrel or research the manufacturer to see if it is stated somewhere if you are unsure. If you don't want to do that stuff it would be safe enough to test with the .308 diameter load data for 7.62x39 and see if it gives adequate accuracy with the loads stated in reloading manuals. Hornady and others who specifically make for this are sold in .310 generally . The hornady die set and rcbs die set for 7.62x39 come with both the 308 and 311 expander. Alot of the .311 non 7.62x39 stuff is designed to run at different velocities in the 303 and would likely not perform.

Thank you for the info! I'm new to reloading, and what's even more complicated for me is powder. There seem to be many manufacturers, with many makes of powder, many of which often include numbers in the name. To what extent are there actually so many differences in gunpowder types? Is there also marketing involved? Thanks!

Now I've heard people using magnum rifle primers in say like .308 or .30-06 when hunting in very cold to extremely cold areas, just to get the powder to ignite reliably. What's the conditions to do that and does that require a special made brass casing to get the primer to fit? No one really went into great detail on how to do that, at least for people just looking to get into handloading.

@jarkoer
@jarkoer 8 дней назад
I've used the "hammer" for a few years now. All I can say is that it hasn't exploded on me yet. lol Just wear some hearing protection and a face shield. If you're that one in a million case where the bullet could possibly detonate, it will explode like a mini grenade. It won't put a hole in your wall, but it will shatter the hammer. Though, like I said, I've used mine for about 10 years now without incident.
