Thanks for being humble enough to share your mistake with the double charge and for discussing the danger of being distracted. That's actually the reason I haven't done any videos of loading yet. I'm a little skittish. I took a jeweler file to the rough edges on my Lee lock nuts. It made them much easier to work with.
Yeah that could have ended horribly if it were a pistol and Titegroup, or some other low capacity/fast burning powder. I'm great at making mistakes, Dummy is in my name, after all 🤣 It's just important that we catch our mistakes, and more importantly, be careful enough to not make them in the first place, or learn from them if(when) we do make them. I need one of those jewelers files, have heard about 10 different ways to use them at the loading bench. Thanks for watching. Hope the house hunt is going well 👍👊🇺🇸
I used the Hornady 170’s the last 2 deer seasons & they put every deer down quickly. I’m going to try the Maker T-Rex bullets this season. I worked up loads this summer & got excellent accuracy with 25grs of Ramshot Enforcer. I’ve found several powders that work great with the 350 Legend. H110, Lil-Gun, Accurate 11-FS, Ramshot Enforcer, Accurate 1680 & IMR 4227. I really love this caliber & it’s my go to deer rifle. 👍🏻
It's a very fun round, indeed. I'm hoping to take it into the woods if I get to go this year. I've been wanting to try 11FS, Enforcer, 1680, and some others I haven't been able to get a hold of yet. Lots of cross over between 350legend and 300blk powders, so I'm going to eventually try them all hah. Thanks for watching!
I did "squib" myself years ago when charging one case at a time. Close call but the next round did not chamber behind the stuck bullet. I'm sure if I had just tried a little harder... lol. After that, I went to charging the whole loading block at once, then giving it a good inspection for double, or no charges. This way does not depend on my (increasingly blurry) laser focus. And using good metering ball powders, it is amazingly quick. .350 Legend is quite intriguing. Could be the ultimate shorter range "Blackout" cartridge. If it had come out of the gate with reliable 30 rd mags, I would have one for sure. And caliber-specific loading blocks! That is a deal breaker. lol. Would make a good woodshop project. Great content!!!
I've had a squib as well, but from bad powder. Scary stuff! I'll have to try charging the whole tray again, just don't want to spill all that powder! I guess thats better than a squib, or double charge, though. The 350legend 20 rounders are working pretty well for me so far, but no 30s available, without modification involved. Thanks for watching brother 👊🇺🇸👍
I use a Redding 38/357 taper crimp die for the final crimp. Ammo runs like high end factory ammo. The collet crimp die is for cartridges that headspace off the shoulder or rim and it is prudent to have a bullet with a cannelure when using a collet crimp. A bullet with no cannelure really needs a taper crimp. The collet crimp with a cannelure bullet , head-spacing off the shoulder is great for preventing bullet set back during the feed cycle. The 350 Legend , 30 Carbine head-space off the forward edge of the case mouth like a pistol cartridge and that requires a taper crimp.
Thanks for sharing, brother! I've heard of people doing that with their Hornady die. I've since ditched the Lee dies all together(had issues with every single one out of this set, and as you mentioned, FCD isn't optimal for this cartridge) and now use the Lyman MSR set, which has a taper crimp. It works perfectly, and is made much better. I appreciate the comment 👊👍🇺🇸
Man I like the way you present the info in your videos. You may say that it past your bedtime, but you don't talk down or make like you know all the super secret dance moves. Cool video. I don't even load 350 but I was pickin up wut you wasa puttin down. In other words I learned things to do with the rounds I do load for. Also, where da heck are you gettin all dees primers DR!!!
Hey man I appreciate that! I certainly don't know any super secret dance moves - I can barely keep time 😂 I'm still very new and just trying to help people along the way with questions I wanted answers for when I started. As for the primers, that one is an ancient Chinese secret😉 Really though, I had most of it on hand, and got some others when the pricing was right and stopped buying when the price went over my set limit. Mostly local stores, and Bass Pro before they stopped selling them online. Thanks for watching even if you don't load the cartridge!👍👊🇺🇸
Since I use a steel case gauge , I keep a clean bronze bore brush to quickly clean the gauge . The tiniest spec in the gauge will make the round harder to fall from it .
Thanks DR.. now you’re making me want to go shoot up some factory rounds just so I can load up some 350’s of mine I casted 😂 I need to start looking for some 350 brass.. 🤷🏻♂️😂
I was lucky and Midway had some Starline a little while back. I've also been able to trade for a few pieces of once fired, but haven't tried any of those yet. I guess you better go try out your factory stuff 🤣 Thanks GK🇺🇸👍🤘
Ive noticed with Hornady factory 170gr 350L interlocks, that I had more issues in one AR getting them to run. Maybe more of a crimp is what it needed from factory. I think their factory 165 ftx wasnt wanting to feed well either.
All of my 350L reloads have ran better with a very heavy crimp from the Lee FCD. That said, it's still somewhat annoying in an AR. I'd probably enjoy it more in a bolt gun and not have to worry about it feeding and running a semi auto 👊🇺🇲
Sorry this is a little late but just watching this video… how was the accuracy while testing this round? I have recently acquired quite a bit of heavy pistol and was just curious.
Honestly, I never shot this at paper and just blasted steel targets with it. This load was also on the hot side, so I'd suggest starting significantly lower. They have data on their site now that wasn't around when I loaded these. I was using the assumption that SWHP was very close on burn rate to AA #9 and using that data- this was bad advice, do not follow it. I will certainly revisit this combo and do a proper load work up in the future. Hopefully sooner than later. I'm sure accuracy of MOA is achievable with proper development. Be safe, and thanks for watching👍
That was a serious answer. They headspace off the mouth, so having them shorter or longer will have a closed bolt resting in a different position, leaving too much, or too little headspace.
A cool caliber that unfortunately hasn't gained any serious traction in Canada yet. Probably due to the prohibition of AR-15's. I can see something like this being of great use for deer or hogs.
They're more popular in your bolt action like a Savage Axis, or Ruger American, but I went for the special snowflake upper because I like scary black rifles. Can't wait to see what loads we can come up with. Will definitely be taking it out into the deer woods this year.👍🤘🇺🇸
One thing I’ll throw in there, for AR/semiautomatic rounds in 350 Legend, trim length is critical. 1.700 is SAMMI SPEC, I think. Anyone loading this cartridge should look it up to be sure.
@vettelover2009 I use the Hornady taper crimp die exclusively for my 350 Legend rounds. I kinda got scared of the Lee Factory Crimp Die, which is so popular for almost all other rounds.
@vettelover2009 I use the Lee on the case prep center that I stoned down just a touch to exactly 1.700. I used to have a custom .358 barrel that was chambered to 1.704, so I‘ve always been careful!
I bought 2 of the Lee gauges, and both were too fat to fit inside a sized case, so I had to turn them down with some fine grit sand paper. I then used one of those to uniform all of the once fired brass I've been collecting, and miss remembered it as having done the Starline. Good thing they are pretty consistent out of the box and only having been sized. I will be sure to pay better attention and try avoiding a catastrophic kaboom.
I would love to shoot these at some gel, but my range doesn't allow anything like that. I will be taking this gun into the deer woods this year, however! Thanks for watching, Frank 🤘👍🇺🇸
Interesting Winchester loads these rounds with .357? diameter bullet. After watching your Video why not reload with 357 diameter bullet. I ditched the Lee dies…years ago! Hello RCBS! Best dies made in America! Question is What's the diameter of the expansion/sizing die you are using .355 Or .357 ? serious question, do 350 Legends dies come in .355 or .357
350 legend is a .355" projectile. Some people have made custom chambers to accept the fatter bullets, but mine is standard .355". Not sure which Winchester load you're referring to as .357", they designed it around being .355". I've got a few RCBS dies that work great, ended up with the Lyman MSR set for 350legend and have been good since then. The expander is also based on .355" projectiles. Thanks for the comment 👊👍🇺🇸
@@DummyRound It's all good I was referring to as .357 The ballistics of the Winchester Super-X load: Bullet Diameter: .357 inches (All 350 Legend) Shell Case Length: 1.71 inches (All 350 Legend) Bullet Size: 180 grain Muzzle Velocity: 2,100 fps Muzzle Energy: 1,762 foot-pounds Velocity (200 yards): 1,466 fps Energy (200 yards): 859 foot-pounds
Very interesting, I have no idea. I haven't bought factory ammo in years. I know the Hornady 350legend specific projectiles are .355" from what I've seen. Haven't seen any Winchester projectiles for sale anywhere.
There's only so many angles to film a press from. I was unaware of anybody claiming rights to using the word "idiot", but I'll try something like "dummy" next time. If you don't like it, you don't have to watch it. Thanks!
lol,,, Bet'cha a quarter, than when you went back to one-at-a-time, the next round that you charged with powder had + - 1 grn more in it, just from the extra vibration on the weak table. Throw that next/ first charge back into the container. start over. Get a system, & do EVERYTHING exactly the same,,, one round at a time. IF you want to charge all the rounds first, mount your powder charger on another table. Then, you can visually check the amount of powder that's in each case, before you seat the bullets. Made me laugh again, when you kept changing the amount of crimp, on 6-7 different rounds! I'd love to see that group. Good thing, your just 'practicing'. THANKS,,, for the added humor. Oh Ya,, one more thing. That thin, bullet case holding block works great for short pistol rounds, but to make life easier, make one 2-3 times thicker- with deeper holes. aka,, No chance for the rifle cases to fall over & spill. & Add a piece of 1/8" thin plywood to the bottom, then you can pick the whole block of casings up & move it, if need be. Live & Learn. I'm old. ;>)
@vettelover2009 the reason I like the rcbs is that I can use a wrench to brake them loose or tightening them down and once I get the locking ring set they don't need to move ever again
