We learned that the property is warranted under Mexican law for 5 years for structural damages. 3 years for waterproofing and 1 year for appliances and miscellaneous. We had significant water damage in our home in Cholula and the developers were awesome and fixed everything without any issue. The damage was due to an additional bedroom, bath and terraza after completing the initial build. We've had a bit of cracking as well, due to moisture, and they resolved immediately.

it seems to be different for us here in San Luis Potosi. It's just one year. Beside with the people our contractor was sending over maybe it's better that we find reliable and good help through our friends. -Marc
@RioBahiaWilliams

@@TheTwoTravelersInMexico The country has this as a country wide law. Obviously, if your developer/contractor doesn't wish to comply with federal law there is nothing to do unless you hire an attorney to force the issue. Also, this may apply only to new construction, so that could be a variable. Anyways, this was a good episode and I enjoyed it... haven't been to San Luis Potosi for many years.

But, you may not want to stay more an 6 months being away from Mexico so you guys are safe. Ok, on my end here in my life, everything is good so far. 2 more months where I am ( and you know where I am ) and then to Guadalajara for 3 months and then back to that russian boarder for the summer LOL. Congrats on getting your permanent residency, Paulette. I hope you are enjoying your new car. The leaks from the rain...such a pain. 😢 and the cold floors and walls (or hot in summer). When I first moved here, we used 3 space heaters, and my electric bill was 10x what it has been the last two years, since I have adjusted and use less. (Same with swamp coolers when it is hot.) Others may know the term for it, but they charge you at a significantly different rate when you use the heaters or coolers regularly. My favorite thing here is affordable fresh fruits and vegetables, and the hospitality of many people, and their graciousness about my limited Spanish. It has surprised me how many people have said they should learn English so they can communicate better with English-speaking foreigners.

Some of these things you may not figure out until you get to Mexico. That's why it's important to explore. Have you considered renting in a few different places before buying? Some people we know thought they were going to bounce around Mexico every few months but then realized that it was important for them to have a home base. Great vlog Marc & Paulette! Congrats to the both you on having a PR status! No worries on having to renew your residency going forward. Driving a foreign plated car in MX is a huge Bullseye. Glad that you are now driving a MX tagged car. Regarding bank accounts, it's the U.S. that imposes additional tasks & requirements on All foreign banks (not just MX) to report to the irs all of their U.S. customers' names, acct balances, interest paid... Therefore, many foreign banks choose Not to deal with U.S. Citizens in order to avoid all these reporing requirements. Wishing you many more happy years wherever you are.

Congrats to both of you on 4 years in MX and to Paulette on her RP!!! Two questions (and maybe 1 or both, or parts of them, can be used as a future video idea): 1. How hard was it to apply to IMSS - I watched your older video on it, but did not figure if you had a facilitator for this and where do you go - I guess to IMSS building, but where inside, etc... And the thinking process of dropping it etc... 2. As you traveled in Mexico what airlines have you used? We already exhausted the area around us (within 4 hrs ADO drive) and would love to get on the plane but the Volaris and Viva are so confusing - not sure what fee they'll tag on the weight of a carry-on, and so on. We don't know when they have discounted trips etc...Also, how do you find hotels in the places you go - do you book from expedia, what is your criteria (close to centro - how close etc)... Thank you guys, learning a lot from you! Congrats again!🥰

On the banking issue, I understand to open an account you are now required to have an RFC even if you are not working in Mexico or collecting an income from Mexican sources. I do know they are a hassle to get. I forget which one but I think it's either the RFC or the SAT that everyone is now required to get.

Hi David, it's the RFC which you get at the SAT office. We made our appointments on line and waited 5 months and we were still only #'s 65 and 66 in the virtual line to get an appointment date and time so we went to the SAT office in person because we needed an RFC number to open a bank account so that we could receive a payment here in Mexico. First time on your channel. You picked a lovely area of Mexico to live in. it is off the awareness of most US citizens. What made you choose SLP? I love that you relate that Mexico is a family-oriented country and let people out here know how lively, lovely, kind, friendly, and helpful the Mexican people are. Family is everything to them. I always feel safer in Mexico than in many places in the USA. Of course, like all countries, there are areas of crime and criminal activities and Mexico is no different. Of all the states you have visited in Mexico, what are your top 3 favorites?
@TheTwoTravelersInMexico

Hi biking momma, thank you for taking the time to watch our video and comment. When we were passing trough SLP for the first time headed to visit in the U.S. there was something about the city that made us want to come back so we did. For us in the beginning it was the beauty of the city including the people and architecture but it's so much more then that now. It's the culture, the conveniences and the fact that it isn't on most peoples radar to retire to. The weather is great here. It would be difficult to narrow it down to 3 states. Aside from San Luis Potosi i would say Hidalgo, Oaxaca, Queretaro with 4th place going to Durnago (Durango city is amazing though) and Puebla (would be higher but to many volcanos). -Marc

Forgot to ask you guys, if You could possibly compare the two PR Cards Marc's green and Paulette's beige to see if there are any differences like new holograms or security markings and if You could let us with the old green card know...Thanks
@TheTwoTravelersInMexico
@TheTwoTravelersInMexico 8 месяцев назад
There are some minor differences on the front other then color. My green card has a bar code on the bottom. The big difference is on the back. Hers has 2 QR codes that I think can only be read by an INM device and i'm guessing the SAT office as I tried to scan them but they didn't pull up anything. Possibly at some point we will have to get the new cards, if anything so that we have to go into INM and report our address. Just another way for INM to keep track of where we live, but that's just speculation on my part. -Marc

Hi Marc; Thanks I was watching Ernie's Livestream this evening and he kind of answered the question.........Like You said I guess that have put some additional security measures on the new beige cards. Congrats on getting permanent residency. Would you ever consider getting citizenship? Being in any place has it's pluses and negatives. Like you said there is a lot of freedoms in Mexico and that is fun but it also means that sometimes the quality of work is not that great, it is all give an take. Hi John, as a matter of fact we have talked about it. We're not eligible to apply for another year. The benefits are that you can get a Mexican passport and you can get a drivers license that last for your life time. @TheTwoTravelersInMexico

Hi Bob, in our experience when you walk in they will give you some forms to fill out and make an appointment for you to come back later. Keep in mind that once cross the border you have 30 days to get to where your going to finish the immigration process at the INM office in the city of your initial residence. Make sure that you have copies of everything including bank statements dating back 12 months. Do you know where you're going to start out in Mexico? Don't be alarmed if the process takes longer then 30's you just have to start the process. @TheTwoTravelersInMexico
@TheTwoTravelersInMexico 8 месяцев назад
We can do a video on those questions. In the mean time here are some quick answers. For credit cards and ATMs the banking institution will typically send them via a mail service like FedEx or DHL. For our regular mail we have a service that we use in South Dakota where our mail goes that will scan the outside of the envelope and then we can ask them to scan the contents to our virtual folder that they setup for us. If it’s something like a state ID card they will send it to us via FedEx. We’re too young for Medicare cards but if they’re like other federal agencies I imagine they will only send to the address you use when you register for Medicare however there is only one place in Mexico that will accept Medicare and that’s in the Lake Chápala area so a Medicare care may be of little or no use in Mexico unless your going to be in the Lake Chápala area. You would probably gave to gave your mail service forward you that card as well. -Marc
