My favorite band of all time, I only got to see them live once, in Seattle. At the end of the show, Michael Stipe ran across the stage and jumped into Peter Buck's arms. Somehow Peter managed to carry him off, cradled like a baby. It was hilarious-- and remarkable how strong Peter was.
Seeing this when it came out on VHS was a musical turning point. SUCH a beautifully produced concert film. Finally, the end of the Green tour, which sent (certainly) Stipe and other half round the bend for a while. The relief is palpable with this ramshackle (and also sexy) performance of a VU classic, which is then illustrated with the huge hug they all have. God they were a fun band. A band of brothers. I miss them. But I hope they never break the spell, and re-form.
