When I find myself falling out of love with a patterned garment I often over-dye it. This does not eliminate the pattern, of course, it just shifts the colour way. (Pink over yellow makes orange. Blue over yellow makes green. Etc.)

Depends on what the material is. This fabric looks like it might be synthetic, which doesn't dye. If it's a rayon or cotton or something, I'd highly recommend over-dying.
@Aigra
@Aigra Год назад
@@patiencenails6632 There are dyes for synthetic fibers (like the liquid ones from Rit) but I haven't tried them out myself, since I avoid plastic in my clothes.

@@patiencenails6632There are dyes for synthetics! RIT brand called DyeMore, Jacquard brand called iDye Poly. I'm sure there's others, but just off of the top of my head.

I have gotten some delightful results from overdying both garments and fabric. I was going to give away some cotton batik fabric that I did not like the color of, then I tried overdying it and loved the results enough to make a skirt that is now a closet staple.

This is so beautiful and versatile! I can imagine this as a nice vacation dress in solid black or white linen, with some tan sandals and a straw bag
@planningtolive_thebestlife453
I love how this dress looks on you! The color totally suits you. It may not be in your color palette but you definitely pull it off well. Like you said, styling it may pull it more towards your color palette. But I really love the flow and drape of the dress as it moves in particular. Very good job!!

I’m only mentioning this because you’ve stated multiple times that you do think you want to have children - if you do and decide to have an announcement video, I think it would be SO cute to make a typical sewing video && at the end reveal you’ve made a matching onesie, or even a baby-sized version of whatever you made. 😂

That dress looks so good on you!! I don’t think the colour is bad on you, it’s just not a colour we see you wear often. The tessellating pattern is overwhelming however. Maybe a vest over top to cover some of the pattern?

As you've come to be a somewhat experienced seamstress (in the eyes of someone like me who only knows how to mend holes on socks) would you consider making a video on simple garments with a step by step explanation for beginners? or something that you would have liked to have when you first started?

I've always called that pattern/shape Moroccan tile. Idk what else to call it, but I always see beautiful ceramic tiles in beautiful colors in this shape Edit-- okay, so I literally googled my best description of that shape and it's called a Baroque Lantern 🎉🎉

When I make something I love but the color is off, I dye it. Dye it! You could do a light overdye in a cooler pink that would tone the whole thing down, or try gray.

Pretty! I think the long ties were a good idea. I also hate the wrap dresses that button or only tie inside. I want to be able to loosen them after a meal or certain times of the month. The length on this dress is very flattering too.

Such a pretty dress. I love the fabric...the print is a bit of me. And the color is so lovely on you. I have two pieces of clothing that has a quilt print fabric. Just looking at your new dress, makes my heart happy. A job well done sweetheart. And it's quite all right to use a ready made pattern. Still it's nice you want to learn to make your own😉.

Something that might help the color issue would be to add a coloured binding along the edges. Even a white would work, but you could try a purple or green or burgundy. It would mean that anywhere directly next to your skin would have a friendlier color. It’s a way to sneak a gorgeous but less that perfect color, fabric, or garment into your wardrobe. Love the dress! It’s so very cute.

It’s so darling on you and feels very much like you The print has a lovely feminine pastoral vibrate feel, maybe if it’s too much I agree with the above to tea dye it: the tan tones would neutralize it and often I find tea has a slight red so it would marry into the pink well

When you don't feel the colouring of the dress, maybe you can tone down the harsh bright colours with tea dye or very diluted brown fabric dye. Should give it a more vintage-y look. 😊

The clunky old Singer will still be working 50 years after the Brother computerized machine is dead. Think of them like phones. Do you have he same phone you had five years ago? Probably not, I don’t. Old machines were made to be repaired for a lifetime. Modern ones are designed to die and be replaced in five - ten years, max. RIP, my horribly expensive 2000s Kenmore. Granny’s 1907 treadle, however, is still going strong. Love my 60s Rocketeer. Keep the Singer even if you do buy the Brother, you won’t regret it.

Alternatively, you could have sewed a strap(? Binding? Ribbon? What is the correct word for it in English?) On one inner side seem, one on each edge of wrapping and on on the outside to bind that last one there. Same thing is done with hanfus, kimonos, gis etc. Works really well too. In case you don't want to wrap a belt around your dress every single time.

The fabric is beautiful and looks good on you but I think you should have chosen the shorter skirt version of the pattern becouse usually these colored and complicated prints work better with smaller garments . Also the sleeves would look better in the shorter version. Just my opinion. You could shorten the skirt and sleeves and you would have a totally different dress. :) also, maybe tying it at the back or on a side would make it look less like a robe. Other then this, your sewing skills are amazing! :D

@planningtolive_thebestlife453
If your grainline printed on the pattern is parallel to the selvage edge then you’re on grain. Usually fabric is folded lengthwise putting the selvage edges together. So if you match your grainline to either the folded edge or the selvages you’re good😄 hope that helps! happy sewing!
