I was that person who bought a ReMarkable 2 and THEN learned about Boox and everything else out there that is available 😅! It's good to keep spreading the word; same goes for people who think there only eReader options are Kindle or Kobo! I use to think I had to pick which ecosystem I had to get "trapped" into; then discover an android eReader like the Boox Leaf or Meebook P6 and realize you can have BOTH ecosystems, access to Libby, Scribd, Perlego, Pearson+, Moon Reader+ Pro, Marvel Unlimited, DC Universe, etc. all from one Eink screen 😁🤩
@@goodereader yes I bought a used ReMarkable 1 to try it out, then around early 2021 bought the ReMarkable 2. Then Reinkstone R1 publicity led to me discovering Boox, Bigme, Boyue, etc. Along with discovering this channel 😁🤩
Also writing FEEL of ReMarkable 1 blew away ReMarkable 2 in my opinion haha, it was a bit slower for latency, but the plastic screen felt amaaaaaaaaaazing. With the release of Leaf 2, maybe we'll get a sunken in screened plastic enote device from Boox too, to get that better feel 😁 Doodroo screen protectors do the job for me at the moment 😅
@@shreyash6495 That's rough😱! what happens when you try to order from the Boox site? Is it that shipping is very expensive or does it just not allow you to place the order? I'm in Canada and have been able to order from their Hong Kong warehouse a couple of times. Would you be able to access them through ebay or any alternative markets like that?
Remarkable ad campaign is pretty heavy but they can survive only thanks to a captive audience (those who bought their stuff) that has to pay a lot to get basic services... Too expensive for the quality of service. Onyx Boox TU is a terrific game changer.
I wonder if they'll eventually be able to make these screens feel 90% like actual paper, there's just something about paper that makes it more pleasant to write on imo.
@@GaryLangEngr They're both in the same price range and marketed to the same user group. There is a reason, why many people search for this exact comparison. So no, it's not off - I am in the market for something like the Onyx and not for an iPad (even if I disregard the problem I would have with buying an apple device).
I have a friend in college that has a Onyx Boox and they told me that it has the best settings not just to read but to write as well, thanks a lot for the video keep going.
You're entirely missing the point that some of us do not want our digital notebook to do everything.... I'm plenty pissy at reMarkable for their decrease in service quality and attitude as of late, but I don't want my digital notebook to be anything more than a digital notebook. 1) I have ADD. All-in-one devices with notifications are a nightmare when I'm trying to concentrate. 2) Security. The smaller the attack surface on my device the better.
The landscape *has* changed, before readers included notetaking, Remarkable had a chance but since then Remarkable's been lagging behind and their features are limited. If someone had money to burn and just want a writing tablet, they could buy the Remarkable but at the end of the day, why would you, if there were better options available? Thank you for this comprehensive and fair review.
The new boox tab ultra seems like a new standard on the e ink tablets for me. Hope to see a 300ppi in the next model like the kiondle scribe in order to see the true "all in one" e ink tablet.
Which one has more business features? I'd like to take meeting notes, convert to typewritten and upload through one drive. I'd also utilize it as a planner.
Remarkable 2 seems to me much better for paper like reading, and writing. I understand there are many features in the Boox Tab Ultra, but they are very distracting compared to the paper like use case, like the Remarkable can do. If I want to buy a tablet, I will buy a tablet :) bad comparison.
It would be cool if you did more comparing videos as I've seen in facebook people actually buying the units to compare them and returning the one they didn't like (not very easy with the Boox as their return policy is stricker than Remarkable)
I have an iPad Pro and a Remarkable (1). I don't want my writing tablet to be a do-everything device. It does very well just what I want it to, and after the removal of the subscription fee, it's even more perfect. There are some very good features in the Remarkable 3.0 beta also, so it is definitely not stagnant. Totally get what you're trying to do in this comparison, but I really think it's missing the main point.
Did you actually watch the video? They showed point by point that even when it comes to writing Boox is just so far ahead it's not even close. "Distraction-free" has just become a gimmick marketing term to get people into buying stuff lacking even basic features so that companies can make more profit.
As a person with a very short attention span, I like the Remarkable 2 better hahaha but both of these devices area great and it just really depends on the end user
Love your style of delivery: fast-paced but coherent; flowy and yet well structured. All in all, very valuable! That said, I believe it‘s incorrect to say (as many are) that the Remarkable forces you to subscribe in order to properly use the device. Not true according to at least one reviewer out there. Apparently you can just ignore all those requests to subscribe, and just use Dropbox and other cloud services with absolutely nothing missing in terms of functionality. Maybe worth investigating to see if that‘s right. P.S. I‘ll wait for Remarkable 3. If it at least has lights and still good battery life, and faster processing/refreshing, I‘d consider it.
Will there be a video comparing all the new bigme/onyxboox devices against each other? I see a lot of 2022 releases but it is hard to see the direct side by side comparisons, it would be nice to have a monthly comparison line-up. Lastly is Sharp+Wacom selling the pre-order of their Gallery 3 directly on their sites? I have been looking for direct links and im falling short.
Had the RM2 for quite some time and thought going Boox Ultra C would be a nice upgrade. It was not, I returned it after an hour of using it. The writing experience on the Boox is MUCH worse than the RM2. The way the pens and strokes behave it miles behind the natural feel of RM2. Boox also has this annoying thing that the first stroke you make always has a huge delay which is very irritating (you can see that in every review video of someone writing). Plus the Boox is much thicker and heavier than the RM2, which makes it really uncomfortable to hold one-handed. Yes it has tons of features that RM2 does not have, but what are they worth if they are unpleasant and no fun to use? RM2 is a device you love using, it feels just right.
Hi, any devices you could recommend along with this Onyx Boox Tab Ultra? Do you have a "best" e-ink reader for someone who is looking for a generous size and a good writing experience / functionality? Price is also a factor, so "bang for your buck" may apply here. This Onyx Boox Tab Ultra looks promising, but just wanted to get your thoughts on any others as well, and what your "best" or go-to is. Thanks!
these are two different worlds, the world has gone crazy by cramming eggs into one "box", and we need simplicity and separation from a million stimuli and trinkets, it's good that there are different products for different needs and different recipients, in this case reMarkable is something special , a return to peace, balance, and originality, a simple, effective "cutter", and let the rest of the world get excited about another stuffed to the brim standard, ordinary, normal, as well as everyone else's, magical gadget, but we have a free choice, I choose a return to the classic and beautiful simplicity, thank you very much, best regards.
Two Tab Ultra questions: - Can the keyboard cover be used with other (german f.e.) keyboard layouts? - How do two paged pdfs (scanned books, etc) look on the (compared to Max/ Lumi) smaller device? Still readable, or rather useless?
Yeah, writing experience is what really matters to me. I don't really care about the rest of the features much. However, I really hate that I cannot rotate pdfs so that I can read the text with larger fonts in landscape view. Also I don't care about the cloud but I should be able to update my files on my pc even after 50 days. That's just bs.
That's why the boox is the easy choice for me too. The online subscription seems quite ridiculous for me, they really limit what the device can do without a plan
I hada Remarkable 1 and sold it. I got agreat price for my second hand Remarkable. I think that's because people don't see e-ink to have, fast pace changes. I get my Boox tab Vita tomorrow so I will see how things compare.
I’ve always thought the Remarkable was so cool, but it feels like they’ve just completely stagnated. I’d definitely want a Boox if I were buying today.
One correction: If you use the Remarkable Pen with the Remarkable tips it does have a very paper like feel. If I use a generic pen on the RM2 it does have the writing on glass feeling of other tablets.
Unfortunately no, the remarkable pen with the tips on the exact same tips as the one on the ultra So what is the exact same feeling Onyx, king Jim, iReader, remarkable, Hyread, boyue, bigme, Fujitsu, all 100% the exact same tips and the exact same feel
Nice review. But for me it just showed that the RM2 is probably the best to get. Reason: If you want a note taking e-ink pad, with no distractions, the Onyx just looks like it has too many options to learn. Options that aren’t really necessary for note taking. I mean, if you want general tablet functionality, then buy an iPad (or other tablet).
2:16 that little guy who has a British accent that says “the fiwst e-weadew’ that feels loïke païpew’ “ Hahaha , you had me there What an amazing channel , just discovered it , bloody amazing honestly I’m just waiting for an e-reader that will replace my tablet for note taking , pdf annotating and comic strips reading . I’m afraid I’m gonna have to wait … tho I’ve seen a video of yours in which a color+bw 300ppi is shown … curious about that one
@@goodereader oh well as long as he’s having fun :)) it’s always good to have people improvising , makes it feel natural and cool Really appreciate your work btw
@@goodereader do you believe that we will soon be able to get a bw+colors with true 300ppi below 500$? I feel like the prices just go up as technology improves…while it should -logically- get down
My Likebook P10 introduced me to the world of notetaking on an eink device and I love it. The Boox Tab Ultra would be the dream notetaking device. I have not been impressed with the remarkable.
Is it possible to use the onyx tab as a whiteboard in a virtual meeting? Cause it is android I wonder if there's a feature or app that makes it possible to share the screen in real time.
The Remarkable 2 looks amazing but I feel like all the features would drain the battery :( I prefer to have my phone, my note taking device and my e-reader all separated!
Books on android give so much freedom, I didn't think about it before buying my Pocketbook. Not a bad choice in the slightest, but I am indeed intrigued by the Android possibilities
Looks like you have an older version of the software on the reMarkable The newer version removes the sub thing and they have returned a lot of features back for people without a sub And the new 3.0 beta has the “canvas” feature of longer pages if one needs it
Yes, there's subtle slight advancements, but does not change the overall point and reality that these one-trick Pony e notes are just played out You can't add a glow light via software XD
Tbh, that’s fine by me Since it both saves battery life and also reduces the thickness and/or gap between the glass and the eInk There’s a reason these are more niche, not everyone gets single purpose devices anymore, like the PDAs of yesteryear
This is a great review. Very interesting. The boox seems head and shoulders above the other..I assumed the remarkable 2 was new because of the advertising!
Do you have any plans to compare multiple of these tablets? Onyx to Remarkable to Kindle Scribe? I'd love to see a 3 by 3 comparison. (by the way pick me lol, i'm addicted to ereaders and my last one broke :(, also how do you guys know who has patreon accounts and who doesn't, my name is slightly different on patreon)
Sometimes our team can justify doing a three side by side comparison. We have done that several times in the past including last month when we did the Kindle versus Kobo versus Nook But for the most part we are quite busy and receive samples every single day Granted, not everything makes the cut, but still.
While the Onyx has a lot of features I prefer a reader just for reading. No distractions! And the remarkable is just not so suitable. But nice comparison!
I have used Remarkable2 for over a year. Got my Ultra Tab a few days ago. I like them both. I do like the ultra for my work. Notes, and email is easy and fast.
Been considering a Remarkable tablet since being bombarded by their ads the past few months but the subscription service is a complete deal breaker for me. Guess now I know where the money for the onslaught of ads came from at least.
Well, the device itself should be a deal breaker as it is old, outclassed, and outmanned by basically anything else in the industry at this point. "Distraction free" is an excuse companies with an inferior product used to sell their items :(
I really like the idea of these epaper tablets as note taking devices, but they are more of a jack of all trades, master of none. For me personally it makes more sense to use my smaller ereader for books and my Galaxy Tab for note taking and general media consumption.
Hi ! I don't know where to drop a comment for the kobo contest so i am doing this on both the videos .(to be honest i dont think i will win this because i am not viewing your videos for a long amount of time and a little honesty goes a long way . But still i will keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best .) Thankyou for introducing this opportunity and keep making these amazing vedios.
Would be lovely to see these days a new version of a e-ink 13'' tablet with best performance and running Android 12. Onyx Tab Ultra @ 13.3''. I am searching for a best working "station" e-ink with A4 format (necessary for music scores playing and students work on courses, withouth having to always zoom on page, having the A4 format on the screen, as it is).
I especially like the conclusion of this video for the "remarkable". It is one of the most ridiculously over-hyped products, which time has passed long ago. Their aggressive marketing is actually detrimental for the potential buyer, but it is up to the people to get informed before a(ny) purchase.
Have been tested Tab ultra and that amazing. But i’m not really need it right now. Both of the device are more “paper like” went writing on than my ipad with apple pencil 1 😂 good review btw 😊
Love this comparison.. If we can really call them a comparison given the bells and whistles that the Onyx has. Personally I have always thought of these as a gimmick, I really can't see someone actively using this over a ipad or tablet, maybe if you work says you have to.
But I don't want to watch videos and get access to other apps. If that was the case, I'd just get an iPad. The remarkable is best because its just that, a digital notebook.
