Used to have this on my MP3 Player while I worked as a forklift driver.. I kept mumbling to myself: Reporting for duty.. "Right away sir...Job's finished...Reportin' for duty. Orders, Cap'n? SCV good to go, sir.
The Terran music is valorous. The Protoss music is mystifying. The Zerg music is insidious. Basically, each race's music in the original game did a good job in reflecting said race's nature.
no don't try to ruin this with pokemon go. Back in Starcraft 1 those would all be good descriptions of the 3 races though in your experience with the confederates and mengsk they are power hungry but raynor yes valorous.
Not just juicier and iconic, but each race had a distinctive soundscape and "soundworld", not to mention that SC1 music was experimental to a very high degree, blending various styles and genres of music from rock to electronic and classical, even some ambient and noise. All the while, I don't know where I read it, but it is spot on, that the music of SC2 is basically Diablo in space.
No way it's nostalgia, it's just better music - period. If this came out today would be just as awesome but would have better quality etc. The nostalgia just makes it more special :)
Definitely not just nostalgia. It might be a part of it, but the music from sc1, like Sophy BJJ said, is a lot more interesting, innovative, and evocative and has a lot more character.
Words cannot accurately describe the feeling one experiences when Terran 1 begins. There's a reason that this game is still played all these years later.
I seriously get goosebumps whilst listening to this. This is basically my entire childhood compressed into 47 minutes and 50 seconds of awesomeness. 18 years later and I still play this game xD
because it's part of your childhood.. that's quite natural to love things you grew up with. it's a very useful brain function... back when there was no technology and bribes and traditions where important.
There’s a “Translate” link on this post. The translation is identical to the original. This amuses me. Anyway, great post, timestamps are always good on things like this.
Hearing the Terran music made me realize that I can still vividly hear the hydraulics when turning a regular tank into a siege tank. Also you could see the tracks spin briefly to actually dig the siege tank into the ground for better grip. And when looking back at Star craft 1 and games from that period today it's like "So...these pixels in funny shapes on the screen...those are enemies?"
Starcraft's kind of a poor example for bad graphics. They didn't try to do too much, it's simple 2D and it looks good. Consider ugly games like Ocarina and Final Fantasy 7 were in recent memory at the time.
I was 4 when my dad first purchased Starcraft. He let me play it with him all the time. As a young kid, commanding an army of space marines was probably the coolest thing I ever could have imagined. The music makes me nostalgic like crazy.
Bro my dad did the same! At 3-4 years i started playing sc1.. with cheats ofc, what can you do at this age really haha! black sheep wall & power overwhelming. So nostalgic and good.
My friend had nightmares of Hydralisks coming into his room and killing him when he was 7 years old xDD (i always imagined that one of the Zealot-Fenix death cutscene, but Idk if it's accurate.)
Nice! When I first purchased Starcraft, no word of a lie, I sat down and played it for TWELVE HOURS without even GETTING OUT OF MY CHAIR. I had food brought to me. I ignored my bladder.
29:18 I'm not sure why but this part was magical to me It all just clicked The Zerg, The Swarm. The unending waves of bugs sent to assimilate you, either as biomass, or as an infested. An army so massive that the ground quakes when they unburrow. All led by the cunning "Queen Bee of the universe" Worst of all, by design of the gods, they are the other half of your perfect whole, the gods did not send you to eradicate them, but to ascend with them. And to perpetuate the cycle that brought both you and your predecessors into existence in the first place.
It's worth mentioning I was too young to play SC1 when it released and really only got into it's story a couple days ago I played sc2 a while after it released and worked my way through WoL and HotS but couldn't bring myself to finish LotV
38:44 " The Hatchery is the heart of any Zerg colony. It spontaneously generates larva, which in turn are used to spawn your various warriors and minions. Now, create a Drone and start gathering resources."
Awaken my child The Overmind's voice was had/s a powerful soothing tone about it Bizarre actually All the voices to be fair, were either hot, manly, sexy, majestic, inspiring, bad ass, calculated, sinister, deceptive..
I used to feel sad from the nostalgia of this music. It made me want to go back in time. Now Im just grateful that I was alive in a time this great game came out and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.
Well... I just started listening to this after MANY years and man...the nostalgia is just blasting through me. I mean if I close my eyes I feel like I'm back then when I obsessively edited maps for SC and made my brother play them.
That's the best part of nostalgia. I'm so glad that I was born just in time to experience the internet as it was intended to be used. Now it is just a wasteland.
I have been playing starcraft for the past 15 years or even longer. I can honestly say i've never ONCE felt irritated or bothered enough by the in game music to mute it. The music is part of this game and needs to be left on. It fits it so damn well. It really says something about a soundtrack to a game when it can do something like that.
I love how this was portrayed to me throughout starcraft: Zerg: For the Swarm! Protoss: For Auir! Terran 1:For Mengsk! Terran 2:No no no, for Raynor! Terrans: .....who are we fighting for?
Zerg: II LIVE FOR THE SWAAARRRRMMM!!! Zealot: My life for Auir!! Marine: FOR MENGSK! Firebat: For Raynor! Tank: Who the hell are we fighting for? Vulture: I don't have time to F*ck around!
Actually, cliched as it may be, I think the Terran one is: "For Freedom" The only thing that changes, is who represents it - when, during the campaign, it turns out Mengsk is just another despot, and just as dismissive of his people's lives as the Confederation had been.
That Zerg OST... Theme 4 in particular.... But the rest just really awakens something terrifyingly powerful within me. Can't say what it is. Feels like I could accomplish anything!
+OceanoCosmico216 .Baranduin Isn't that only in HotS though? I suppose that came out a while ago, but there are probably still a few people still playing WoL.
Ulfsark Svartblot too bad they added the broodwar music into SC2 now ;D at least in HOTS version, there is an option to allow broodwar music, hots music or all of it together, neat no?
I dont dislike any part of the soundtrack ,its all nostalgia goggles to me. But listening to this again makes me appreciate the zerg soundtrack so much more than when i was younger.
Oh, the nostalgia! All those countless nights spent playing Starcraft, listening to this music and looking out the window at some point only to realize that the sun has already started rising... good times.
This was race specific music done perfect back in the days. Terrans, the music of this young race sounds very dynamic and ambitious, the protoss music is elevated and sublime...the zerg gives off an air of slyness and cunning. Excellent upload...SC2 would be better off with this 15 year old music than with the new crap.
***** It's not really what they "listen" to in my opinion :) It is what the player feels when he/she listens to it while playing the game. Each race has very unique characteristics and a good score reflects that. For example look at the differences in architecture each race sports. Terran building are industrial, protoss buildings are a mix of the high-tech and the religious and zerg buildings of course are organic. One can instantly tell these differences and that is part of what makes the three races so difererent. The same goes for the ideologies and philosophies.
You know, you can choose if you want to use the StarCraft 1 / Brood War soundtracks instead of the StarCraft 2 soundtrack. It is in the options menu. I recommend checking it out.
Matt Uelmen FTW! He's the composer and one of several elite game music composers the likes of which have brightened (or darkened, if it's that important to you) our days for decades now! Here are some in no particular order, and many are missing (I'm tired after work and brain is bad at remembering things sometimes) so feel free to suggest: -Matt Uelmen -Nobuo Uematsu -Jeremy Soule -Tommy Tallarico -Koji Kondo
Listening to this music every day at work makes me extra productive, gotta make more APM!! its like playing starcraft all day! this and the Warcraft 2 music are my very favorites to listen at every moment.
The "terran 2" theme really starts to build around Remastered Brood War Soundtracks and the payoff comes around Remastered Brood War Soundtracks It's like you are slogging up some steep mountain, and right around there you reach the summit and gaze out towards the heavens before diving back into the thick of it.
I must have been 10 years old when I first played this. Replayed the campaign a million times and loved every minute. Memorized the dialogue. I can recite some of it to this day lmao. Zerg
29:19 31:27 32:01 33:14 33:47 34:27 36:56 43:55 These are my favorite parts of zerg themes. might be meaningless to spot cuz these are pretty much every part of whole zerg music 😂
