In this video I'm showing how to do inkwash in Rembrandt's manner. Obviously perfection will take time but his drawings/sketches are just superb and filled with life. Enjoy!

I recently bought a dip pen. I think I will try the brush like this.

Nicely done sir. Great color choice. Still waitin on Noodlers to make a quality burnt sienna. I can come pretty close by mixing it myself , but mixing inks like that interferes with the formula. Not that it matters a great deal, but I suppose I wouldn’t know if it did!

Certain colors are very beautiful and pleasing to our senses. Burnt Sienna is definately a beautiful color.

@@KaustavMukherjeeFineArt agreed, I really like earth colors, browns, ochres, some greens., blues and grays. Sepia, Burnt sienna...all are excellent choices. Then old masters like RVR typically would use umbers & siennas to do both the sketching & underpainting in many of his oil paintings

Actually today we are spoilt for choices. Till early last century people used what they had and used extremely well. Beauty of the ink color won't surpass Rembrandt's sensibilities.

@@KaustavMukherjeeFineArt Agreed! Rembrandt is my personal favorite. Such immense talent! Its hard not to be inspired , if you are a person who has the desire to create art ! In 1961 a Rembrandt painting sold for 2.3 million USD. The Metropolitan Museum Of Art in NY was bequeathed this Rembrandt painting and it was reproduced in limited supply during its first showing to commemorate.....it was reproduced in limited supply and sold to collectors as high-end lithograph composites....Aristotle Contemplating The Bust Of Homer . In 2014 I came across one at a Salvation Army thrift store for $ 10.00 USD. Its been hanging in my study since 2014. I stare at it often.

From what I've read, Rembrandt used pens made of reeds. He preferred this over anything else.

@@KaustavMukherjeeFineArt I wonder what would happen if you took a nice cured pine ( or other wood on hand) twig of ample quality...and sharpened it up in a pencil sharpener to form the appropriate tip . I bet that it would work, perhaps. Something to try when i get around to it..

@user-my2lh3mt5d yes. What we easily get here is bamboo. Shifted to that rather than any other fancy nibs.
