Why couldn't Echo Fighters like Daisy, Dark Samus, etc. have some of the old custom moves incorporated into their movesets? It would have been a great way to provide some differentiation from their counterparts.
Oh my god that would have been amazing, Lucina and Marth's placements would have been in different spots. But what about Richter, Chrom, and Ken? Roy and Ryu didn't have custom moves and Simon wasn't in Sm4sh.
I really think they should bring custom moves back, it could add so much variety to fighters and fix problems like Ganondorf being a Falcon clone or Mario’s moves being a bit outdated.
i remember getting like everything for Kirby on the 3DS version because Smash Run was really fun. I believe one of his mallets imbued Super Armor. I got to stand on the Spirit Train tracks for a good while. That was also fun.
@@idiotnumbnuts8486 Me too. It was like a testfire of Subspace, featuring various enemies, events, and bosses. And it was the only way to play Stamina Mode. Good times…
I used to play Random Custom battles with my friend on Smash 4 3DS at lunch time. It was so fun to suddenly get a floaty Bowser or a slow Sonic and also get screwed over by having a different recovery! 😂
I really missed these things. The only part of the customization in Sm4sh that I *_didn't_* care for, the stat changes, was the only aspect that carried over with the Spirits.
I honestly wish some customs were added to certain clones and echo fighters, like Ganondorf could easily take Wizard’s Drop Kick in his actual moveset. Otherwise, I don’t really miss them too much because they were usually the basics of, “Up Special strong but go less distance.” or just barely change anything about the character. There were so many meh inclusions that people gloss over for “Look at this thing that is broken haha.” It was a cool idea, executed alright, with a horrible scheme for unlocking everything.
I sorta miss this feature, that and the one game mode exclusive on the 3ds, the one where you hunt for powerups and are given a task at the end like, race ,or jump race, or sudden death, man I miss that game...
It was awesome to customize the moves! I customized MEGAMAN in a way that made him perfect for my own play philosophy style, my main set up was; Tornado Hold (up b), Danger Wrap (side b), Shuriken (neutral b), and Skull Shield (down b). My favorites were Tornado Hold and Danger Wrap, they were both some of his safest moves since TH covered your ascent and even if you activated DW point blank the move doesn’t damage you at all, it’s curve was also pretty hard to dodge consistently. It sucks they didn’t return for other than the Mii’s but I understand the omission.
it's because they took forever to unlock, especially on wii u 😔 some of the characters had cool references in their custom specials though, like how megaman's specials were all boss weapons from the classic series, palutena's were all powers from kid icarus uprising and one of ness's sets gave him lucas's specials
Honestly, the only downsides to custom moves were the grind it took to unlock all of them and the fact that several of them weren’t as creative as they could have been. But otherwise, they were a nifty bit of casual content that definitely could’ve been used as inspiration for revamping movesets. Imagine a Smash Ultimate where Ganondorf could recover with Wizard’s Dropkick… 😌
I literally thought that custom moves were in Ultimate until now. I don't know about that time sink, but I feel that custom moves alone is enough to warrant it's own mainstay as a title Glossing over frame data has been done to death
I have every custom move in the game. Thats kinda crazy to think about. I also liked the classic mode a lot simply cause taking on master core was really fum and we could do it with every character.
Super samsh bros for the 3DS has these, 3 differint attacks for 4 attacks these are the special attacs, you'd play the smash run, some of the attacks where stronger vertions slitly differint, otheres where differint, also did you know thet pushing any direction and A at the same time you could choot alternant attacks.
So many things in Smash 4 were demonized and misunderstood... Anyone remember how people thought that Amiibo in Smash 4 were useless since they "levelled up without effort"? People, to this very day, still believe that the Amiibo didn't genuinely learn from the player, and think that Smash Ultimate's Amiibo beat them by a longshot... For those that don't know: Amiibo in Smash 4 learned from their opponents via counter-win. As-in: they learned to FIGHT BACK against whatever their opponent threw at them - NOT mimic the opponent. So, yes, they could level up without the opponent doing anything at all, but the Amiibo is simply levelling up in learning how to win - so if an opponent does nothing, it's learning that opponents are easy targets and don't move: skill learned and memorized. But, if a player or CPU is aggressive in skill, the Amiibo learns how to counter by becoming either even-more aggressive, or learning how to win via defense. Same goes if a player only defends - the Amiibo learns how to grab and break defenses to win. Amiibo in Smash 4 are leagues smarter than the ones in Ultimate... But at least in Smash Ultimate, you could tell them to STOP LEARNING. Smash 4's amiibo tournament scene was horrifying, because people would send in dumb amiibo (those who levelled up by doing very basic training) to challenge extremely-smart amiibo. The extremely-smart amiibo, because it never stopped learning, would dumb itself down because their opponent was too easy to beat. The dumb amiibo, however, perfectly learned from their loss and would counter everything that their opponent threw at them from before... so the smart amiibo became weaker, while the dumb amiibo became stronger. By the end of the bracket, the safest-trained amiibo would ALWAYS win and the hardest-trained amiibo would ALWAYS lose. If however, Smash 4's amiibo could actually turn off learning: They'd wipe Smash Ultimate's amiibo out of existence. Source: I entered in a few Amiibo tournaments myself... A guy came in there with a Villager amiibo and said that anyone who could beat his amiibo two-out-of-three matches would win $100 out of his pocket. His amiibo wasn't very smart, so we all thought we could win... but at the end, he was the champion. He took his prize, kept his $100, and gave us his card - which had a website on how to train your amiibo to win... I'll never forget that guy. EDIT: Oh, and I forgot to mention... Another source: I had trained amiibo via experiments myself (though I went via the stage-training route). Amiibo learned from their environment as well. An Amiibo trained in only Final Destination has very little understanding of platforms. An Amiibo trained in any stage with tons of obstacles, have very little understanding of how to move in a linear stage. From these experiments, I made custom stages that were oddly spaced - and the amiibo learned to adapt to them... Most interesting creation I had was a Zelda amiibo that was trained in a stage that had platforms that could fit only one fighter each. The amiibo, after several trials, eventually learned how to dash and dodge within a limited space. When exposed to large, open arenas, the Zelda would refuse to take more than two steps forward or back, only making slight movements and hopping around the field to combat opponents. She was extremely defensive in play and would often wait for her opponent to approach her before executing combos (preferring to win via meteor smashes near ledges). She would also surprise her opponent by sprinkling a few teleports in the match - to mix up the rhythm of the battle... she would also win via time out by teleporting perfectly onto smaller, even moving, platforms. ... my most dangerous creation was a Little Mac that knew how to counter every attack (as I had him aggressively train with each character all day). ... He was my pride and joy... but got taken out by that Villager... who learned to mix-up his combos and cancel out of attacks to completely confuse his counters.
Custom moves would have made so much sense with Mega Man because it would be like switching between his copied abilities like he actually does for real. It's too bad they made a lot of the custom moves so overwhelming when it came to going against actual people that they turned out not being legal to use it a tournament setting. I also H A T E D how they used the custom moves to mislead people how Palutena was gonna play as a character. Her trailer showing her using so many unique moves, that she used to fight with, only to turn out that's not how she played AT ALL. They were all custom moves and made the character ter VERY disappointing compared to what they tricked people with. It was even more crazy for me specifically because I liked the character from watching people play the most recent Kid Icuras game. Never expected her to hit Smash and be excited about how she played, only to be tricked.
Well considering there are 24 character in ultimate that weren’t in smash 4, that would be at least 190 specials to code in They took them out for time and sanity Hopefully one day we can get mods to add it (all though probably not for a few years)
@@dustin202 you’re forgetting that the DLC of 4 didn’t have them either, Lucas, Mewtwo, Roy, Cloud, Ryu, Bayonetta, Corrin also didn’t have customs. They had given up come DLC for Sm4sh.
64 - the OG Melee - the timeless, most technical smash game (+ adventure mode) Brawl - MK, Subspace Emmisary, tripping Smash 4 - custom moves, jank ass cookie cutter combos and RAGE Ultimate - literally the ultimate combination of previous smash games
Custom Ganondorf was truly the biggest loss. Flame Wave, Wizard’s Dropkick, and Dark Fists together basically made him an entirely different character.
This concept was awesome! I loved that Mega Man had an alternate to Leaf Shield that was skulls as a counter. There was no 'downside' to unlocking custom moves, the process makes the game fun, more so on the 3DS.
There were a lot of downsides. One it took way too long to unlock, literally like weeks of doing nothing else but unlocking them. Two some sucked ass and some were way too broken But other than that they were really cool and fun
@@iswiftyfox8997 I never knew that you had to unlock them, because when I wanted to customize any of my characters, all of the customisations were already unlocked. And I didn't spent hours doing anything else than play the game normally (normal smash, Smash Adventure, All Star and Classic Mode).
@@MrJapanUnderground well sadly enough echos are cheaper easier to make as well as being easier to flaunt in order to flex the total charactrr amount in the marketing
Every character on tier of Palutena or the Miis would probably take way too much work, but I think every character on the level of Mega man (unique visuals that reference other parts of the series but with the same base animation) could’ve been incredibly cool
Captain Falcon had an upB that went higher and it was sooooo much better for his recovery. Plus it actually had a hitbox on the top, and I have used that to get a KO after doing up air really high up
I love custom moves, there was this one ditto match me & my friends would do with DK and it was hilariously chaotic. Special-Storm Punch Side special-Stubborn Headbutt Up special-Kong Cyclone Down special-Hot Slap I also remember Ganondorf’s Warlock Blade which when I unlocked it my jaw was on the floor cuz that was the first time Ganondorf used his sword in smash! I also loved doing Mighty Falcon Punch and KOing someone at like 40% 😂😂😂 good times
I remember using Falcon's up-b that had a hitbox, the flying falcon punch, and timing out someone who was trying to cheese everyone with villager customs with Sheik's penetrating needles lol
Some of the characters had custom move missed opportunities. Mario and Luigi could've had RPG moves in there (like replacing FLUDD with a hammer), Pikachu could've gotten Iron Tail replacing the side special, Toon Link could've gotten the super spin attack from Wind Waker, etc
I remember being so disappointed that they didn't give Bowser that custom side b in Ultimate, y'know, where he slides forward as he slashes. That thing was a game changer in Sm4sh and coupled with Ult's other improvements to Bowser, we coulda had something special
I hope they bring back the custom moves. They were SO much fun to play around with. If they come back, I kinda want full move customization just for local play with friends. Maybe Mario’s fireballs are too small for my liking, so I wanna make them 1/3 if the screen.
I miss me and friends coming up with the most broken customs in smash 4. I always go for damage and knockback especially for charizard with slow flare blitz a true monster.
God, I loved custom moves. As a pac-man player, my favorite had to be "weird fruit." I loved using the fruit as a surprise mix-up, and weird fruit added to that -- since it was a custom move, it really threw off a lot of people who were only familiar with his default moveset, and each one, like with the defaults, had its own niche versatility.
I liked the different counters that had a small window but if they hit, you could act with anything right after like a parry. Always wondered what the DLC characters could have got as customs.
I miss custom moves so much. Should have just made them come with the character or maybe unlocked alongside spirits to encourage participating with that mechanic no one uses
To be fair, most of them were just an excuse for a character’s exclusion. One of Fox’s custom moves for his side special was called “Wolf Flash” I think you know where that’s going
The unlocking was horrific, but I would love to see custom moves return - *tied to achievements* It's a really cool feature in Smash that most people don't actively engage with, plus it would let you "target" moves you really wanted. And it comes with a build it pass, with the hammers, if your main has one on an impossible challenge!
Custom moves were a really cool idea. I would've loved to see them in tournaments as a side event if villager didn't ruin it the few times they tried it.
It actually ran as the main category for over a year, and villager was boring for sure but he wasn’t the only problem. Arguably the three bigger problems were “wind kong” who made the game extremely boring and took no skill, rewarding bad play, mii brawler who had 0-deaths and consistent 20% kills (he had low representation but the few players placed very highly despite being more mediocre players) and discovered right before the end of customs was the infamous “lightweight” palutena, a character who’s movement, combo game, and neutral were so absurdly overpowered that she led many people to reconsider customs alone
@@nfisher5685 Right, I forgot about Wind Kong. Both were really bad, just in very different ways. Villager turned the game into a "set up and camp ledge" simulator while Wind Kong was just braindead easy. Mii Brawler was also crazy, but it was so overlooked that it never became a huge issue. Palutena with Lightweight was also really good, but it's also the only thing that made Palu stand out. Without customs, Palutena was easily one of the most forgotten and overlooked characters in Smash 4. Either way, I really wish they would've made customs a thing in Ultimate. I would've been willing to wait another year if they were able to come up with new unique custom moves for all the characters in Ultimate.
Wtf lmao I wanna see how this would work in ultimate I would custom the fuck outta banjos moves he really was cursed with his current arsenal tho some make it work I try cuz I love the character
I miss Bowser's Dashing Claw Side B. It had so much use for movement, landing lag cancel, combo potential, and ledge cancelling too. I wish they were brought back, and made less of a headache to unlock...
I miss custom moves as well!!! They made the game for me with all of the options and how they can be executed! It's a shame that only Miis have them now. I would have loved to have been able to change Inkling's down-B (from splat bomb to burst bomb/curling bomb) and so on!
I mainly used custom moves for Smash Run on 3DS, since some enemies like the Polar Bear from Ice Climbers would only flinch from damage by fire attacks.
As someone who never played Smash 4 (didn't have either console) I'm sad these didn't make it into Ultimate considering just how much they have in common
