The context was: what should be the rules of men and women working together, The make-up was just a hypothetial question of how do you define what a workplace can and cannot ban. He started off with NBC's then new behavior code of forbidding hug at the workplace. His question was: where are the boundraies of what a workplace should and shouldn't ban for the sake of stopping harrassment. And he literally said: he doesn't think make-up should be banned. He was even hestiant to agree with the interviewer, who said it raises the possibility of harrassment at workplace.

I do agree with some part of that argument though. I was going to say, my initial thoughts on an alleged decrease in women's happiness would be in large part due to a massive increase on the ability to report on their unhappiness lmao. If you were to go to Saudi Arabia and report on women's unhappiness from 2021-2031, subsequently give women equal rights and protection under the law and then report their unhappiness from 2031-2041, you'd probably see an increase in reported unhappiness, solely due to the fact that they can now express their feelings without getting their ass beat. Cosmetics in the 1920s were characterized by their use to create a specific look: lips painted in the shape of a Cupid's bow, kohl-rimmed eyes, and bright cheeks brushed with bright red blush. Now, why do you think this specific look was advertised? Is it arbitrary? Obviously, makeup has changed over the years. However, the foundation/premise of makeup was for that reason.

One funny little thing about JBP is that he's now considered to be an icon within some conservative groups in heavily sex segregated countries. I won't name the country, but I've seen how these men use his arguments to justify the oppression of women. His comment on makeup appeals to those people so much that they've used it to argue that not only should women cover their faces at all times, but that allowing them to work invites sexual harassment and destroys the fabric of society. It provides a scientific facade to their core belief of women being sources of sin. Maybe it's unfair of me to dislike him based on what these groups use him to justify, but it shows just how dangerous the things he say can be.

And the answer is that nobody knows, because nobody tried, yet, or what was tried clearly isn't working. Focusing on lipstick is just a strawman argument. It's just an example of things that need to be considered but that nobody wants to address, especially the people that want inclusion and no harassment. They don't say how it works and what are the clear boundaries, so it ends up subjective and tyrannical, let alone unjust. The question of modesty is a real issue, and it is funny that the same people that don't want to address it, also want to import those people that say it is important and include them, again by coercion in the workforce. In any case, I don't think it is too much to ask from ideologues of setting up clear boundaries that are enforced equally. There simply is a political need to not do it, because it is advantageous to cheat on the rules. But there is a more overall problem of seduction. Women want the right to be able to seduce at will, because it is an advantage. But men don't have that right, even if it is in response to the above seduction. The only gauge of it is the subjective feeling of the person that initiated said seduction, and whether the answer was clumsy or not, or if the initial seduction was just fake and pretend play. There is also the issue of third parties that might feel uncomfortable in such environment, again if the man does something, because it seems like female seduction is harmless and not harassment ever. But male seduction is a threat. So two people could seduce each others, and a third party could complain, and that is also sexual harassment. Those issues are not trivial at all, and just spouting ideological platitudes won't solve the problem. Seduction is not harassment, and heterosexuals do seduce each others when in contact. One solution is to simply banish it, but then yes, you have to also banish suggestive attire and all of that. Make it grey and asexual so things are clear that it is only business. It's either that or it is not possible. You can't complain about the result while also loving the cause. Seducing is good for business, but that also means either not working together or the possibility of harassment in one form or another. So what choice will people make?

I had a friend who was on the birth control shot , she claims that she was fine until she was near babies and toddlers, instead of feeling the need to care and love them like she usually feel, she instead felt irritated by them and annoyed so she never done it again due to her family. Also the biggest thing about Birth control that it blocks certain hormonal features that makes alot of women loses the NEED to get with a masculine men, (not saying they wont get with someone masculine just the need will be gone) and alot of "betas" gets a chance to get with them, rather that's a good thing or not is up to you, I'm not in this one 😂

I think that it had a destabilizing effect on families but the pill is not a bad thing by itself and is here to stay. It kinda initiated a trade off between stability and freedom. Nowadays, we have way more freedom in the dating market but there is way less trust or security left. This has advantages and disadvantages. Being reactionary about this like JP leads us nowhere tho
I cant speak for other women but I wear makeup and dress up sometimes because it makes ME feel good. I find that when I go the extra mile to plan an outfit, do my hair, or put on some mascara that I'm more confident in what I do. However, I also have days where I just want to be comfortable, and so I dont put as much effort into my appearance. It all depends on how I'm feeling that day, other people have no say in it. (and it has nothing to do with simulating sexual arousal? I don't even know where that came from lmao, that has never once come to my mind when I put on blush.)
The reason we feel good when we look good is because we are attractive, which depens on other people. Yes, I also don't think things like "I hope I make every women who looks at me wet" when I do my hair or shave myself. I'm studying to become a social science teacher and we had a lecture about Okin and her view on feminism. We arrived at her thoughts on quotation in the work place. Fucking immediately some dudes in my class started to critize it and began stating some insane arguments like "the biological differences between males and females are what made up the percentages of males VS females in the workplaces." I got pretty heated I gotta say I really tried arguing with them and I fucking kid you not when after 5 minutes of talking they bring up Jordan Peterson and his arguments. An argument a classmate made against me was that" It's the feminization of men that is causing the decline in men's mental health". Needles to say the argument got heated and we left it after I want into a rant for like 5 minutes straight about JP spouting incel shit and transphobic politics. I was the only one in the class who said something and afterwards I felt like dogshit. This video honestly made me feel more sane and less alone. The way he treats and speaks to women may be similar to the way he condescends to others, but his interactions with women are specifically informed by societal norms over our history. Overall, we have always viewed women as children & forced them, legally, to to defer to men for a number of huge decisions. You must show at least some competence to have a child as a gay couple, so comparing gay parents with ALL straight parents do not show what results the children might have by not having someone of the same or opposite gender in their household. To dispute the fact that not having a mother or father figure in the house has absolutely no mental factors on a developing child would be absolutely insane. While I don’t agree with point that Jordan makes, he at least makes you think about the topic in a new and thoughtful way. I feel like just because he’s stoutly non conformist, hasan and his fans believe him to be this insane person. I don’t agree with everything he says about trans people and their rights however he puts forth a lot of topics that are overlooked by the common person that I think he’s integral in discussions about trans rights legislature and what it means in the future.
Honestly I think the way he phrases "I act as if God exists" makes it sound like he does believe, but refuses to admit it. All of his arguments are basically talking in circles around whatever questions he gets asked so whenever someone poses one of his past arguments to him he can argue it either way. As a woman, I can tell you that people like him are the reason I feel guilty showing any cleavage, being intimate with my boyfriend of 4 years and even very occasionally watching anything slightly pornographic. I am very conservative on the appearance side only (I align with Hasan politically), I don't show any cleavage, or wear short skirts. However, there's nothing wrong with that. I've only had 1 sexual partner, being with him for 4 years. And didn't even look at anything pornganic until age 21. Women who have multiple partners (as long as not cheating) do one night stands, show off their body, and own it. I think thats great. Not really for me, but I see no reason why women can't be confident and sexual just as men are. But you know why alot of us women feel guilty? Because of people like him. Who tell us our whole lives to keep ourselves "innocent" and not let ourselves be permiscous. People like him are the reason I feel guilty sharing my love with my partner every single time. This just made me realize something as an autistic person... that my shame and guilt around being promiscuous is because: being on the spectrum as a woman you tend to want to follow social guidelines and these ideas are still kinda ingrained in society. I learned at a young age that it’s not good to be “sexual”, that you can get the wrong attention and some men will see you and want you because you’re “being sexy” or “dressing sexy” and you shouldn’t want that attention. While that’s true that you should be careful as a young girl, it honestly just tell you “you need to look out for men and how you get attention from them, it’s bad to want to be promiscuous”. And I took that to heart because when you’re masking you want to fit in, so you follow what people say. This comment just made me realize that maybe it’s not just that my autism affects my sexuality, but social norms also play a part of why my sexuality is conflicting or confusing to me. I have though been coming a long way with trying to follow my own opinions and thoughts more than other people. I tend to end up feeling kind of torn because I am very empathetic towards others and I have a hard time standing my ground on things. I think though I definitely have been picking up on how to stand my ground more. I’m still just not very articulate or something in putting my thoughts and ideas into words. Honestly though watching these videos has finally put my ideals down that I can stand up to others and not be confused on what I’m saying.
what gets people into peterson is the fact that his self help book isnt terrible. it just says what tons of other people said before. cleaning up your room and organising your life helps you feel better, ground breaking.
