You learned about American wars and battles in history class back in the day, but there’s one that might have gotten by you. The Battle of the River Raisin was fought as a part of the War of 1812, and even though it was fought in what is now Michigan, a contingent of Kentucky soldiers played a key role in what happened there. It so struck the consciousness of our young state that there are nine counties in Kentucky named after native sons who died or were captured there. And it led to what is regarded as the first battle cry in our nation’s history - Remember the Raisin.
