Ronnie kissed Bertier to get him back for calling him a fruitcake, that's was a slang term for gay. He was just trying to make him as uncomfortable as possible.

This movie came out in 2000 The kiss was one of the many representations of lgbtq to brainwash my generation and the next generation that gay was the cool thing or funny so they'd accept it more readily One of the countless attacks on the minds of the youth to get them to believe in what the elite want them to believe so they can retain control over the masses There's always a good reason and then there's the underlying REAL reason The good reason is so he could get him back for calling him a fruit cake The REAL reason is the elite want to enslave your minds and keep you in the mindset that they want you in

I was fortunate to attend a couple of Titan games that year. I was 11 years old and lived just across the POTOMAC RIVER in Southern Maryland. You see Titan fever had spread across the Region and fans from as far south as North Carolina and as far North as Pennsylvania. T.C. Williams is 10 minutes from Washington D.C. and that fever spread onto our beloved Washington Redskins who rode that same energy all the way to the SUPER BOWL in January 1972.

@user-sy5vv4ze3h

This classic movie holds a special place in my heart because I knew all the real people the movie depicts. I was a senior at T.C. when those events happened. Some old-timers don’t like the movie because it takes great liberties with the facts, but most of us love it because it is great drama with an important lesson. Julius died five years ago after spending many years traveling around the country, giving inspirational talks on race relations. Some truths and untruths: Alexandria was not a southern hick town but a cosmopolitan, metropolitan suburb of 110,000. T.C. had been integrated since 1965 and at the time of the events (1971) was 30% Black. Hammond (Yoast’s school) had just two Black students because it was in the rich end of town, and G.W., in the poor end, was 60% Black. Race was not the main issue at T.C.; school rivalry was the issue, due to the merging of the three schools. Boone was not new to the school. He had been assistant coach at T.C. for two years preceding the events, and he was my P.E. teacher in his first year, when I was a sophomore. I liked Boone a lot and had a good relationship with him even though I was not a football player (I was varsity cross-country and track). As most people know, Bertier’s first car accident was not as shown. It actually occurred after the season, but the movie changed it for dramatic purposes. T.C.’s hardest game was not in the State Championship, but in the regular season, 21-16 versus Marshall. T.C. had 9 shutouts in 13 games. I saw all the regular season games. Oddly, the team’s best star was not in the movie; he was a running back who led the state in yards and touchdowns. Yoast was one of the best coaches in the state at the time, and there was widespread resentment over Boone’s selection as head coach. It is true that the training camp at Gettysburg transformed the team, and students were marveling over it when they came back. Boone was a hard-driving coach as depicted, but he had a great heart for the game and for his athletes. Singing among the Black athletes (including some basketball players) was a longtime tradition at T.C., usually done in the locker room. The players were allowed to wear their jerseys in school at any time, and they actually acted as a calming influence as depicted briefly in the film. I witnessed an incident where a player used moral suasion and school spirit to stop a fight that was starting. My favorite true thing in the movie is an event I witnessed: Ron Bass’s arrival. It actually occurred at T.C. in the first week after training camp. I was with the cross-country team, warming up at the end of the track straightaway. At the other end, a fancy car drove up the ramp from the parking lot and onto the track. Everyone was amazed; cars weren’t supposed to do that. Ron (with very long hair) and a military officer in uniform (his father) got out of the car and talked to Boone, who had stopped practice and came over to them to see what was going on. Later we learned that he was a hippie quarterback from California. He was terrific, both a fine passer and a great runner. He played much more than was shown, and he always kept our opponents guessing. Bertier was a great success in the wheelchair Olympics in the shot put and discus throw. My brother met him once in the gym in those later years, and they played ping pong. Bertier won, because he was excellent my brother says.

What a fantastic description of this movie. I worked in Raleigh, NC at a shoe repair shop across from NCSU. A gentleman came in one day back in the late 2000’s and had a TC Williams polo styled shirt on. My first thought was, after seeing the movie no less than a dozen times was “There’s no way”….but he was very accommodating and answered all my questions about real life/movie discrepancies. Everything you described he also said verbatim. Then, he took off his 1971 class ring and showed it to me. I took a picture on my phone but obviously it is long gone now.

Yes and the movie shows the TC Williams Titans as mostly underdogs, when in truth they were kicking every one's butts. They outscored their opponents 265 to 31 and of the 13 games they played, 9 were shutout. The only close game was their game versus Marshall, which was not the championship game. The Titans won their championship game 27 to 0 and held the team, Andrew Lewis High School to minus 5 yards of total offense.

Ryan Gosling and Amy Adams were the only actors with speaking parts who were actually teenagers. The guy who played Campbell was in her thirties. Gettysburg was Civil War over slavery, not the Revolution. He called him a fruitcake which meant gay and in 1971 it wasn't a good thing. Sheryl Yoast died really young of cancer, I think.

What an inspirational film, thank you for doing this. Our team was similar to this as far as the dynamics of coming together as a team. There were still a few issues, but looking back they were exacerbated by media, pop culture & stereotypes. Our coaches had the mindset it didn't matter what color out of the crayon box you were, you focused on the character of the guy next to you. Have a few suggestions along the same theme; "We Are Marshall", "Invincible" & "Miracle". All based on true stories & absolutely fantastic films. Hope you sincerely add them to your watch list. Great movie and I enjoyed your reaction. I grew up in this time period, although a few years younger than the football players. Racial issues were still common place despite Federally mandated school integration taking place a decade earlier. Still, I appreciate the struggle depicted in the story. On a personal note, my mother hired a woman to help with our housekeeping. She and her two children lived with us and her son went to school with my older brothers. Neighbors on either side of us moved out because we had black people living in our house. I remember the one neighbors wife invited me for pancakes and while I was eating heard the husband arguing with my dad. At one point he couldn't change my father's mind. His objection was reduced to, "but they are going to school with our kids!" So, the story in the movie isn't precise regarding the Titans, but it certainly reflects the times.

Piss poor edit but it was cool to see you get caught up in it for the brief amount of film shown. In real life, Gerry got in the car accident _after_ the State Championship game, not before. And the Titans actually won the last game something like 48-0. A lot of this is inaccurate -- they weren't the only team in the league to be mixed race -- but it makes for a great movie in the end.

It has been a favorite ever since because of its amazing themes of tolerance and acceptance. @scottdarden3091
@scottdarden3091 Месяц назад
The North had not abolished slavery! The United States of America still had slaves in Delaware, Kennedy, Maryland and West Virginia. Even after the war! Slavery was not abolished in the United States of America until December 1865 with the 13th amendment. The South was paying most of the federal taxes because they were making more monies by selling agriculture products to Europe but most of the federal monies were being spent in the North.
@nataliestclair6176
@nataliestclair6176 Месяц назад
No, slavery was not abolished until after the Civil War ended. When the Civil War started slavery was still legal in both the North and the South. So called free states were not really free states. You could still own slaves in "free states", and many did, you just could not sell or trade slaves. Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, two years already into the Civil War. But that only freed the slaves that were in states in rebellion against the Union. It did not free the slaves in the 'Free States" or the slave states that had not seceded from the Union such as Deleware, Maryland, Kentucky, Missouri. During Linclons last year as president congress passed a bill to free all the Slaves, but it was not passed in the House until after Lincoln was assassinated and then it was added to the Constitution as the 13 amendment in December 1865, 8 months after the Civil War ended To say Southerners in such a general term in a falsehood. Not all Southerners owned slaves, something people today seem to believe. Only about 15 to 20% of the Southern population owned slaves. Of that about 2% were black slave owners, mostly in the state of Louisiana. While you over simplified amd meant to insult all Southerners the reason of why the wealthy Southern Aristocratic plantation owners didnt want to give up salavery, it is not far from the truth. The question that has been debated since the start of the American Civil War, was it fought over slavery is not an easy yes or no answer. Did the Southern States Secede from the Union because they were afraid Lincoln was going to free the slaves, yes they did and that is made very clear in every states Article of Secession they sent to the Federal govt. announcing their intent. Each state added in the second sentence after the reason was becuase they wanted to keep their slaves. Was Lincoln an abolitionist? Absolutely, he was a republican and the Republican Party was founded in 1854 as the Anti slavery party. He had every intention of freeing the slaves, just not as fast as circumstances forced him to due to the war. Did every soldier who fought for the Confederacy fight for slavery, of course not. Most never owned slaves and could have cared less. The 20% slabe owener mostly the rich Aristocratic plantation owners who did fight to keep their slaves. Did every Union Soldier sign up to fight to free the slaves? Not even close. Their were some abolitionist as common soldier and officers of high rank, but most fought becuase they were fighting to preserve the Union. When Lincoln signed his Emancipation Proclamation there were mass dersertions in the Union army by entire Regiment becuase they didn't want to be fighting to free the slaves. But overall, was the Civil War about Slavery? Yes it was. Did Lincoln free the slaves? Yes he did. His emancipation Proclamation may not have freed all the Slaves but it was a stepping stone and all he could do without Congressional approval. He did push the bill, with help, through congress that later freed all the slaves.
