READ BEFORE COMMENTING: I know lots of you guys have very similar comments about some of the shows. I’ll answer these all at once: -A spin-off doesn’t necessarily have to refer to everything being in the same universe. My definition of “spin-off” here is that these shows were all made under the same company using a similar formula to Power Rangers. It’s like how Hanna-Barbera made dozens of other shows based on the Scooby-Doo concept (4 teenagers, an animal, mysteries, etc.) I specifically titled the video the way I did for the sake of simplicity, though I understand the perspective of certain comments. - Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad, Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters, and every other 90’s Toku not in this video were made by DIC Entertainment. Los Luchadores though was made by Saban. - Saban did make TMNT: Next Mutation, but I didn’t count that since it was based on a series owned by another company. - When I refer to Masked Rider, I’m referring to the 1995 Saban adaptation of Kamen Rider Black RX. I always refer to the Japanese Kamen Rider as Kamen Rider. Not sure why people are confused by this.
Kamen Rider started in 1971 while the first Himitsu Sentai Gorenger started in 1975. So if anything, Power Rangers is the spin off and Kamen Rider is the original.
@@Johnny-dp1hr no it's not what a insult to super sentai to consider these showsthe same thing, power rangers is a joke that should not exist, they couldn't create a original idea and costumes so they took the costumes and footage of super sentai what a joke of a series
A friend of mine found every episode, and oh man... It's so hard to watch if you're not a child. Nevermind the special effects of the time it was made in- like how a monster was literally freeze-framed and slid in a perfect vertical line across the screen for a jump to dodge an attack- but the acting, choreography, and dialogue all feel like they were written and performed by a high school freshman drama class. I LOVED Mystic Knights, but only because I didn't know about Dungeons & Dragons at the time. It does not hold up 20 years later.
VR Troopers: Didn't really seem to know where it wanted to go. Masked Rider: Failed at being something it should never have tried to be. Turning a superhero action show into a sitcom was risky already, but then making it not funny resulted in disaster. Beelteborgs: Succeeded where Masked Rider couldn't; at being lighthearted and funny. Goes to prove that if you want to make comedy, don't forget to hire a comedian! Mystic Knights: Proved that Non-Japanese tokusatsu can work! And also that relying heavily on CGI was a bad idea in the 90's.
VR Troopers' proplem was Shuki Levy perving out on the 19 year old female lead, writing and rewriting episodes to focus on her, then holding the 'career he built for her' over her head to get into her pants, among other, worse things. Don't believe me? Check out the interview said actress did with RVT Entertainment, here on youtube. No, I don't work for them, I just want to spread the word and get justice for Sarah Joy Brown.
1994 was the year VR Troopers came to TV, another American-Toku show made its debut and its from DiC called Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad, adapted from Denko Chojin Gridman.
I know about Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad, but didn't mention it since it wasn't made by Saban. What's interesting is that it has one of the guys from Boy Meets World.
Fun Fact on Beetleborgs; since the show had 3 kids morphed into teenage sized heroes, it gave Saban the idea of having Justin be the Blue Ranger for Power Rangers Turbo to impress new comers to the Power Ranger franchise
RiderNexus Yes! I’d love to see one of those seasons get brought over. There’s already a trademark for Ghost Rangers so who knows what that could mean.
Loved Mystic Knights. I was so bummed when it ended because it had pretty good production. And man Beetleborgs was killing it! At 1 point I thought they'd dethrone Power Rangers since the main characters were more relatable than the teenagers.
I am a true toku fan and I never forget all these beloved shows, they are my life! Masked Rider, Beetle Borgs, VR Troopers, Mystic Knights, SuperHuman Samurai Syber Squad! These shows deserve a lot more love and respect, they need to make a HUGE COMEBACK!!!!
Mask Rider I still remember that series and VR Trooper too and same Big Bad Beetleborg I grew up with this series and Mystic Knights is also one of my favorite Saban series I love all these series from my childhood
Masked Rider, Beetle Borgs, & VR Troopers. I remember watching those as a kid, and I always wondered what happened to them. Bringing back Maked Rider would be cool since now you have platforms like Netflix. Would be nice to see them return
I remember getting off the bus from school, at 4 o’clock, fixing me some popcorn, and sitting in front of the TV and power rangers came on, and then VR troopers.
VR Troopers! That must have been what I cherished somewhere between 94 and 96. I actually had action figures of them! I got into Power Rangers awhile later but it must've been VR Troopers that I accessed to first.
The fact I know all these shows just shows how my childhood went. I think I'd I had to do my childhood over again I would still know all these t.v. shows.
"Vegeta, if you don't mind me asking, what are we in for?" "Ever heard of power rangers?" "No." "Ninja turtles?" "No." "Sailor Moon?" "No." "Beetle Borgs?" "No." "VR Troopers?" "No." "Samurai Cyber Squad?" "No." "...Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills?" "Oh yeah!" "G-- $#@!% it!"
It seems they could’ve gone that route with the 2017 movie, but now Hasbro has all of the rights. It’s possible they would include these heroes though in their cinematic universe.
Loved vr troopers and tattooed teenage alien fighters from bevery hills batman the animated series Bucky o hare and the toad warriors and xmen cartoon series were part of my childhood😊
@@only257 Which TV Show is better. Power Rangers, V.R Troopers, Masked Rider, Big Bad BeetleBorgs, Ninja Turtles The Next Mutation or Mystic Knights Of Tir Na Nog?
“Why isn’t this show on DVD yet ?” Shotaro Ishinomori was so appalled with Saban’s Masked Rider back in the day, he revoked the Kamen Rider license from Saban. I doubt Toei would ever give the license to Saban ever again. His MMPR cameo is all we get.
This is nuts all along as a kid I swore VR Troopers an Beetleborgs were on at the same time. Along with Super Human Samurai. I thought these were completely different shows. Turns out is was all from the same Japanese show 😂
mask rider black and mask rider rx..this morphin heroes are so cool when i was at the age of non smartphone user..it was back in 90s..thanks for recalling this heroes..
This was different and a breath of fresh air...I honestly remember watching all of these but wow, have the times changed... I'll probably be snooping around (🤣😂) but thanks for the memories and keep it up 🤘
I do remembered Masked Rider, VR Troopers and Beetleborgs Metallic back when I was a kid but for some reason they don't have a series Finales like the Power rangers series because they never have a chance to destroy their enemies.
I remember watching all of those as a kid! Side note, the Saban did use the season 2 Beetleborgs as Power Ranger villains in a later season. Not sure which one (as I stopped watching PR as I got older) but they did appear in the "Forever Red" episode during Wild Force...
Hmm, I never realized back then why these shows were cancelled, didn't realize a bunch of them were because they ran out of footage, makes sense now. Better than some networks like Disney that seem to have a habit(possibly a policy) of cancelling shows before they can reach syndication, probably because they want exclusive rights to them, basically saying if you want to see it you have to watch it on our channels. I saw a video about Disney shows being cancelled and it mentioned Kim Possible once, and I noticed that the cutoff for syndication is 88 episodes and they ended the series at 87 and finished up with a movie. Coincidence? Possibly, but apparently Disney makes a habit of cancelling shows after a few seasons, even if they're popular. Heck the fans had to rally to even get it brought back to get up to 87 episodes.
Can you imagine a reunion episode of Power Rangers with these other flashy heroes? It would be like when in the 90s Spider-Man cartoon where Spidey teamed up with the golden age Marvel heroes!
It could happen if Hasbro decides to adapt or make their own version of the Super Hero Taisen movies from Japan. Its a series of crossover movies that involve the Power Rangers, Masked Riders, and VR Troopers all teaming up.
VR Troopers was really popular in Charleston SC as the lead actor was from Summerville SC and was known in the area to have known martial arts. I was 20/21 when this show came out I knew where VR Troopers was adpated from thanks to having a cousin and friend who lived in Japan during the 80s. They foreshadowed the end of VR Troopers due to the wild footage splicing. I actualy liked the show because MMPR was cheesy to me...but I do have GX-72 Daizyujin and GX-78 Dragon Caesar because I couldnt be caught with toys as a 20 year old lol. I....really....liked.....the....Dragonzord!! When I picked up video games ar TRU I would walk past the display of Dragonzord toys but I know my friends would be like you cant play with toys lol!!
this brings back so many memories this is why I'm a fan of 1990s nostalgia it could have been I was a kid in 1990 and also a teenager during the mid-90s thank you for bringing back so many good memories with this video
I absolutely loved Big Bad Bettle Borgs! As a kid nothing beat watching kids become Power Ranger like heroes. I remember BBBB even had a Make a Wish Foundation dream come true. Great show all around.
I remember watching and loving Big Bad Beetleborgs and Beetleborgs Metallix when I was ages 4, 5, and 6. I think a great way for that show to have a comeback is if Boom Studios makes comics of the show. Just like they're doing the Power Rangers comics
I loved all the shows and mystic knights was amazing. I adored that show. Also from what I heard Tommy was to join VR Troopers as the 4th trooper while that new latino kid Richie who Trini was messing her panties over was supposed to be the white ranger and that the lead trooper was supposed to cross over as his troopers character to be the gold ranger and then the phantom Ranger. That's what I heard
Those were not adapted by Saban I believe. The Super Human Samurai Syber Squad was an Ultraman style tokusatsu show that ran on Fox Network for one season and flop and the Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters is a USA Network show that failed miserably with bad acting, a storyline that goes nowhere, and lame special effects.
I only watched a handfull of episodes of Beetleborgs, but they were as good as the Rangers for thie 7 years old kid I was at the time. The idea of villains comng in our relaity through comics and drawings was quite good, actualy.
@@keonjohnson9604 It never had a direct connection to Power Rangers. It was totally it's own thing from Saban. Although I had always wished that thier powers would have been reviewed to come from the Morohing Grid. But thier powers came from magical Irish things.
I will admit I watched a lot of these growing up but after getting older and watching original Super Sentai and Kamen Rider series I could never go back.
I hope they will make a Dragon Knight reunion movie one day. Especially since how A The show ended with them “exploring other worlds” and B) they could easily adapt Rider Time: Ryuki.
I think furbus was get inspired to make furby toy a year after the show was cancelled Even masked rider was a total bad it did open up more idea to its story of course Saban didnt have creative thoughts. Big bad Beetleborgs was ended in cliffhanger eventhough there was more footage they can use of course Saban wouldn't use b-robo kabutack footage since its too kiddy
Furbus was made to be a toy tbh. I’d love to see a Beetleborgs reunion movie, especially since Metal Heroes has been making a comeback in recent years.
Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog was probably my most favorite American Tokusatsu show that wasn't Power Rangers. Meaning while I liked shows like Big Bad Beetleborgs, and VR Troopers, my two most favorite American Tokusatsu shows were Power Rangers, and Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog.
I grew up in Japan in the 1980s, and never knew the names of many of my toys, or understood what was happening in many of the shows I watched. It was interesting to see my childhood come over to the States and see new life.
Its definitely a decent adaptation of ryuki from what I've seen of ryuki. I think it even won awards for its fight scenes. I love to see what they could do with wizard or kiva. Also 4 kids does great openings, but that's about it.
Mystic Knights of Tir na Nog was pretty good. If any one came back I'd want that. Though obviously it would require more money & effort to do that then to try & adapt a tokusatsu show.
@@shortydapimp28 well said that's why if they ever do another Kamen Rider adaptation they should do it in the same way as Kamen Rider dragon knight. Personally I think Kamen Rider 555 would be a good adaptation.
Nothing can compare to Power Rangers with Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd except for VR Troopers! I love Power Rangers and VR Troopers💯💯 I’m glad Jason David Frank stayed on Power Rangers as the White Ranger and Brad Hawkins was on VR Troopers as Ryan Steele!! It wouldn’t have been the same if Brad played the White Ranger, he’s way better @ playing Ryan on VR Troopers!
I loved all these shows as a kid I remember getting so mad the big bad bettleboroids never had a true ending to it and how mystic knights and vr ended so quick lol least I still had power rangers
I’m surprised KR Dragon Knight didn’t take off. Tbh it’s one of the better American toku shows. I can say I enjoyed it. If they would adapt another KR I would say adopt either W or Fourze. OOO is good too but I feel they could do some cool stuff with W.
I remember there was a show that was on Cartoon Network. It seemed similar to Power Rangers, but was a bit more different. There was a character who had Dragon powers and would put some kind of item in front of his waists and he'd change into a suit. Still can't figure out the name.
Watched every single one of those as a kid. And Beetle Borgs beat out Power Rangers as a favorite, especially since the toys that were the weapons and stuff felt solid as a kid a survived for years.
so many good shows, sucks they were cancelled, especially mystikc knights, that damn cliffhanger ending they left us with at the end of the first season, the demon like humanoid was the fire element users brother and the evil witch was there mother, I hated that the show ended like that, leaving things like that for us to never find out more. I had hope so long ago for a season two to see more, but it just sucks it never happened.
Mr.ScaryPasta An animated series could work. What would be cool though is a series made by Toei based on the Kuuga manga, much in the vein of Netflix’s Ultraman.
@@HesJulioCoolio Yes! Hasbro and Tohei working together to animate these old fallen shows back to life would be amazing. I'd watch it all the time. Let's hope they make a smart move.
There should have been a giant crossover with Power Rangers and all these shows. Maybe even Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters From Beverley Hills and Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad as well
CoolTrainer: VaultBoy-39 I got the episode footage from RU-vid, but they’re in retry low quality. There’s only one known dvd set and it was released in another country.
@@HesJulioCoolio Not only would you not think you'll be seeing Sarah, too bad there isn't Gardner Baldwin and Richard Rabago. It's because the two are dead, and hard to believe that it's been ten years, since we've lost Gardner.
I honestly and unironically want Beetleborgs to come back under Hasbro. This would allow there to be a Power Rangers style show aimed at young kids, allowing Power Rangers itself to be aimed at a slightly older demographic than it is currently, meaning we’d get more stuff like Time Force and RPM. Then, they could have occasional teamups. Probably not annual, since I already want the annual Ranger teamup to come back, and it’d be asking too much for two crossovers a year, but there could be Ranger/Beetleborg crossovers every few years. Hasbro could really have their cake and eat it too here. It’s a great opportunity, and one I hope they don’t pass up.
It depends if Toei would be willing to let Hasbro use them. Both Beetleborgs and Metal Heroes have been dormant for so long. But the space sheriffs have appeared in some sentai movies, so I don't see why not. I think that if Hasbro wants to make a show targeted at a younger audience, they would do one of two things. A) adapt Toqger as a side-show (think rescue bots). Or B) make a series based on the Playskool heroes toys.
Thank you for doing this! I remember watching a show, about medieval knights that was kinda like power rangers. But I couldn’t remember what happened to it or what it was called!
Thanks, it’s sad Mystic Knights didn’t continue since it had something interesting going for it. Especially with the new Swamp Knight that was to be introduced.
I can see a few of the KR seasons working in an adaptation like Den-O or OOO being overall lighthearted enough but they would have to really change things up to adapt Kiva or Kabuto as a kids show. With the whole stained glass vampires killing people left and right and bugs monsters doing the same only to assume that person’s identity. Decade and Zi O if adapted would probably end up as badly done as Super Megaforce.
You didn't mention that the Second Season of Beetle Borgs introduced a new Hero. It introduced a White Beetle Borg. And that character could turn invisible.
Cyclonus That was actually in the first season and his powers, much like the Green Ranger, were temporary. They were destroyed after the Bettleborgs beat Shadowborg.
The problem with Masked Rider was that it was not technically the show it was based on. With the successful western adaptation for Power Rangers, Saban went and did the "Hanna-Barbera" approach to replicating that formula with all the other shows he licensed. That's why The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was used as a bridge to introduce those shows as a cross over. Saban for the most rewrote the character of Kamen Rider Black/Rx, added new characters and made a completely different show out of it. As I was told, the parent company that owned the franchise saw some finished episodes of what Saban was using their footage and suits for. They then tried to terminate his license during production and denied any more use of their film footage from any Kamen Rider series. Rider ZO and J were just two unrelated films he did still have "some" access to, for his adaptation. If that's true, I think there might be legal issues with the original Kamen Rider franchise preventing any future re broadcasts and sales of Saban's Masked Rider.
That’s what I meant by “spin off” in the title. Saban pulled a Hannah Barbera in terms of recycling formulas. Also, someone told me a while back that the reason Masked Rider doesn’t have a dvd is because Toei refuses to release it.
has it REALLY been 23 years since masked rider? damn how time flies I remember all those shows I actually have the complete series of mystic knights of Tir Na Nog I downloaded it ages ago I remember having a bit of a crush on Lisa Dwan
@@HesJulioCoolio I used thepiratebay.org to download them but the quality is not that great but I don't care I still love that show my friend and I used to watch it all the time kinda sucks that it only had 1 season i'd love to see them bring it back especially with today's graphics that'd be really good
@@anakinskywalker6666 I saw a dvd rip of the opening and it looked beautiful! Imagine what this show would look like on blu-ray? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZxCg26VZ0bQ.html
I always thought Kabuto would make an excellent source for a Dragon Knight sequel. The No Men are already an organization like Zect, Trent is already perfect for Kagami's role. Reverse-engineering Rider tech from having Eubulon so long results in new Riders with Advent Beasts that aren't quite as big as the real deal (in other words, the Zecters) because they'd have needed a lot more of some resources not readily found in this dimension. Eubulon had a "Speed Vent," and they were able to put that into all the new suits (so, Clock Up.) Tendou's counterpart could be the alternate version of Len, so Matt Mullins would stick around. Naturally, there'd have to be a team-up episode! As for what series to use to give the Riders a third try, unrelated to any past one, I really don't think it matters! A PR style adaptation can keep so much of the original it's Samurai-style shot-for-shot copy, or so much that wacky Go-Onger becomes Mad Max meets Terminator. They all look good enough. However, if it were me, I'd start with Kuuga. Even if some of the effects haven't aged well (and weren't so great then; I wince at some of the explosions that remind me of the fires in Birdemic) you gotta account for the fact that Decade and Zi-O are coming!
Yeah, but it made sense from a business perspective to focus more money on the more successful show. Plus, PR is a property they could milk for years with new footage. Mystic Knights would run out of ideas eventually.
@@HesJulioCoolio I know I was just having a wee laugh since well I always called Mystic Knights Irish Power Rangers also the main Bad's right hand man's actor was Gerry O'Brien and that always made me smile....can't imagine why
They could have maybe quite possible not make shows based of of stock footage from old shows. How much did they expect to get out of limited footage? Makes no sense but financial sense to keep fucking with the afternoons of children given them half assed productions that were always meant to be failures. I'm just saying. Great shows with 2 seasons just to keep money flowing with no chance of the shows ever going to be anything serious. I cant stand that way of thinking...money before anything else. Damn corporations are a disease
I'm pretty sure that Kamen Rider is far more popular in Japan than Super Sentai. I miss mystic knights, but I seem to recall hearing that the set's required for MK were far too expensive to maintain.
Anyone else wished we lived in the timeline where Masked Rider was successful and we got American adaptations of Kuuga, Den-O, Decade, W, Fourze, and many more?
Reminder that Black RX was the last Kamen Rider show until 2000 with Kuuga. Black RX ended in September 1989, and the franchise got revived in 2000. Masked Rider already used footage from the ZO or J movie. So Saban's only choice would have been to use footage from the movies they didn't use(ZO/J, and Shin), or go back and adapt the previous Rider shows. Or use fully original footage until Kuuga.
