I'm a BIG HARD TUFF MAN and that brought a tear to my eyes also, not just because of Luther BUT ALSO ARSENIO HALL cause he also showed how special we are as a people cause he was late nites TOP DOG
1:01 Luther Vandross was a singing man with so much talent and Arsenio Hall rolling around on the floor like a fool had me rolling right along with him 😂😂😂😂😂
Perfect pitch. No warmup. No advance notice. He just stood there & sang flawlessly. What an effortless sound that always looked so easy, but wasn't - just his God-given talent. Amazing. What a tragedy he was taken so soon. Loved him.
He's an amazing singer but he would be the first to tell you perfect pitch is not what he has and if you're talking about this performance they couldn't play with him because he was wavering in the pitch he almost changed to a different key in the middle but that's just me being a picky a****** so he's still one of the greatest ever
As Arsenio said, "He don't need no music". He WAS the music. What a pure velvet voice. This was one of the best demonstrations of his incredible talent. There just isn't any other like him.
His voice was touched by angels. It’s hard to believe he’s been gone for 17 years. This clip feels like yesterday. He was one of the greatest of all time. I imagine Luther and Whitney leading a heavenly chorus. 😢❤
i was listening to Luther Vandross while washing dishes at my second job and the radio broke the news that he had passed away, everyone in the grill area broke down
@@calvinmiller9049 Oh, I’m sorry, that’s so incredibly sad. That’s one of the worst possible ways to find out. Unfortunately, the same exact thing happened to me when Whitney Houston died. My sister called me and delivered the news while I was waiting tables in the middle of a busy Saturday night rush at my restaurant. It was one of the worst nights of my life. I will never forget the devastation.
@@Nightflyer720 I know it was February 11th but I was watching The Preachers Wife when my aunt called and said "who killed Whitney?" I said " Whitney who?". When she told me, I turned to our local channels and just froze!!!
Isn't that just the greatest, complementary thing, that one could do, to demonstrate to another man, your love of his voice... Hall, simply rolled around, then, had paralysis.... Owe, wow....🧡 This man is a doctor, this man sure is a doctor... That man, Dr Luther Vandross, truly was a Doctor of Music....
I’m a full heterosexual male, but Luther’s voice even makes my knees weak!! It’s still so hard to believe that he’s gone. One of the most silkiest, soulful voices to ever pick up a mic. We miss you so much Luther.
@@complextrocassette-carotta9889 Yes! We constantly see and hear 🌈 people getting praise for being what they are so finally, it's good to see some respect the other way as well, now we're becoming more balanced as a society 👍🏼
@@mcole442 It's not a clear runaway with Sam. They have a couple of people you can throw at 1 but truly no one is the number 1. Ranks are all opinionated unless you're ranking sales.
He is the personification of "a light and a mic" singer. That was all he needed to absolutely hypnotize an audience. Man, if you grew up with Luther back in those days of R&B, you were blessed! They can't make it like that anymore and there will never be another like him. Ever!
I in FACT, DID grow up on Luther. ....there's a reason that in movies, plays, skits, commercials, WHATEVER....when you say "put on some Luther", the entire UNIVERSE knows exactly what you mean. 😎
He killed it. I think the band didn't want to distract from his voice. Like Arsenio said, "We don't need no music". Arsenio rolling around on the floor is classic lol! Straight fool!
@@malzzzzification25 and Jackie Wilson !!. These youngsters giving Bobby Brown a name so many others deserve. They do not know the kings of R&B with a body of work.
Whew the chills on my arm right now!!! These news singers could NEVER, he brought a grown man to the floor with his voice okay!! 2023 and forever Luther was the best!!

I had the privilege to witness him do this live at 1 of his concerts, and MAN!!! when you say PERFECTION, It will NEVER BE ANOTHER.... none of these R&B singers today can/could touch him.... Pure Talent, a True Gift...
Freddie Jackson, is the closest to Dr Vandross. I just heard: 'It's Cold Outside', a beautiful duet. And thought, Dr Luther Vandross, should have, also, put, that song to sleep... As once The Doctor, lays down a song, no one, can go there again... Isn't that just the greatest, complementary thing, that one could do, to demonstrate to another man, your love of his voice... A voice which calmed me as a kid, and still does today. I’ll be 60 this year, God willing. I hope these new kids learn how to appreciate music like I did in the 60’s
Luther was once in a generation... I'm 40. Just barely old enough to remember hearing his voice live. He was so legendary. They don't sing like this anymore.
I agree 💯 %!! His concerts/stage performances were unmatched! The background singers were extremely professional and apart of his show. They were INCREDIBLE !!! I Miss him ! 😢
What a magical moment! Arsenio was one of the greatest host, he really dignified all of his guest when they came on his show. Beautiful cherish memories!
@vigrinia oliver The only singers who can come close to Luther I can think of are: Kem, Kenny Latimore, Eric Benet, Babyface, Jaheim, Will Downing, Ron Isley (Mr. Big), Rahsaan Patterson, Music Soulchild, Maxwell, Tyrese, Joe, and Johnny Gill (no particular order)......if I left somebody out, please forgive me.......😏 These guys are singers in the Classic, R&B Troubadour style: stand there, in a suit, connect with the audience, and sing the song, WITHOUT callin' a woman all outta her name, tellin her u love her, and need her..............😏
I'm so thankful to lived in a time with all these legendary talented artist. Michael Jackson, Whitney, Luther, Patti, Aretha, Chaka, George Michael, Prince, I could go on and on..
Once in a lifetime voice. Grew up on Luther's music. Mom and Dad used to play his music on a record player we had in our living room with a huge speaker.
I grew up on Luther. You know how us black folks call him by his first name like we tight or family! A true legend. We love you, miss you & couldn't forget you if we tried! 😘😘
So True, i added harmony to this video, it didn't need it! but it was great joy adding to Luthers voice ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FYYaQRZfQxU.html
Luther was raw, true and beautifully talented singer. Love in it's purest form. Luther Vandross, you will never be forgotten. Thank you for your contribution to the world. 💓
Most gifted Vocalists today can do the same but it just feels so incredible seeing one of the greats perform like this…Thank you for posting this and keeping that alive..🙌🏽

Chillllls!!! Luther was one of a kind and is sorely missed. I pity the generations that will grow up unaware of this musical powerhouse. Today's music has no heart and that's why it won't stand the test of time like the artists of yesterday. Always forever love you, Luther. 🥰❤️🙏🏽
Luther's voice was an instrument within itself. I only saw Luther perform live once when he was the lead singer of the group Change before he went solo back in 1980 at The Sports Arena in Los Angeles. How I wish that I had an opportunity to see him live sfter he went solo, but I'll always cherish my memories of seeing him perform in any capacity ❤️
There are the moments when you can see the difference between a real singer and the others. He is perfectly in pitch. His voice is exactly the one i hear on his albums. This is a singer, a real singer.
There can only be one Luther and he proved it. He has such control of his instrument and he can take it any place and even the musicians couldn't follow. Ones of our greatest.
In tears. Still so sad every time that I remember Luther is gone. Such a phenomenal talent. His concerts were amazing. Gone way too soon. Love you, Luther!
OMG !!!!! I LOVE LUTHER'S VOCALS..... When it comes to vocals, artist like Luther, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Patti LaBelle and Ronald Isley are on a whole other level.
Bob Dylan, Keith Richards, Lou Reed, Tom Waits, etc... Singers who didn’t really know how to sing. I doubt the old school would consistent in turning out famous people who could sing. Chances are, compared to the guys I’ve listed, many of the singers people claim can’t sing, can singer better than a lot of the old school singers who weren’t very good. I would also add that, many people assume that certain today can’t sing because of their use of auto tune. A lot of people don’t know that they use auto tune for effect. A lot of those singers can sing. T-Pain, Britney Spears, and dew others I’ve heard without it. Similar to Peter Frampton using the talk box. Just adding effect.
I agree, no one could take Luther's place. Glad I was able too catch every concert except for one. Had the dog gone flu. Hubby wouldn't let me go. 😂😂😂😂

We ain’t got that many superhumans left man🙁. Michael Jackson RIP. Luther RIP. Prince RIP. Whitney Houston RIP. So many superhuman voice that shaped a generation. We still got Stevie and Boyz to Men. Gladys Knight. The Clark sisters
Sharon Boyd "Don't need no music", is a double-negative, which implies that music was needed. Double- negatives basically flips the script, besides sounding like slave talk.
Luther's vocals were so smooth, he had the ladies captivated and swooning. As a guest, who's also a fan, Arsenio done lost it that's how awesome Luther Vandross was. This man was a once in a lifetime singer. Truly miss you brother. Despite the fact, that you're gone, your music will live forever.✨️✨️✨️✨️
Ms. Kitty Luther was the instrument, beautiful, soulful, sent chills, and tears, why did you gave to go to soon? Luther sings with the Angels now, when he was here he was an Angel who sang to our hearts. RIP
