Join us for a profoundly special episode of the James Loud Podcast, as we honor the life and legacy of Dave Mesford, better known as Dave Damit. In an episode that holds a special place in our hearts, James Loud traveled to Washington to spend two memorable days with Dave, capturing his final stories and reflections for the podcast. Tragically, Dave passed away shortly after, on April 20th, 2024, marking this episode as one of his last contributions to the world he impacted so deeply.
Dave Mesford was a revolutionary in the Canna community and an activist, known for his exuberant spirit and compassionate heart. Throughout his 3.5-year battle with aggressive bladder cancer, Dave continued to inspire those around him with his resilience and dedication to advocacy. His work stretched from his foundational role in events like the Seattle Hempfest and the CannaCon business expo to his contributions to cultivation and breeding as well as photography that appeared in several magazines and books including the back cover of James Loud’s breeding book which James admires as the best male photo of a plant ever taken.
This episode not only features Dave's own words but also includes touching tributes from his friends. Known for his long, curly hair and a personality just as vibrant, Dave's passion for life and helping others left an indelible mark on his community. He loved sharing cannagars and his flower with those who would appreciate it, and his famous pecan and strawberry rhubarb pies were well known inside and outside of the canna community.
As we celebrate Dave's remarkable life, we also aim to support his family during this difficult time. In line with Dave's giving nature, a fund has been established to help cover the costs associated with his medical bills and upcoming memorial service. We invite you to make a contribution to honor Dave's legacy and help alleviate the financial burdens his family faces.

This is an important episode. I felt it captured a lot of the spirit and dreams Dave gave to this world. Having never met the person, but having directly benefitted by his actions, I thank you for capturing this moment in time, a piece of his personal history. May the force be with him.

What an absolutely incredible episode James! Thank you!!!! The amount of passion and love for this plant that you and your people share is out of this world! But man, I can't shake this overwhelming wave of guilt 😔. This medicine completely changed my life with my Crohn's and I was blessed enough to beat my stage 2 colon cancer with it. Dave, I'm so sorry we couldn't keep you here longer!!! Please rest in peace brother and may you never ever feel pain again!!!!!

Great episode. Refreshing honesty from Dave. I decided to trim my recently harvested and dried flowers to this episode (and the Faven one before it) and I think I just found a great new combination.

Great interview and very awesome messages! If you want the black market to go away, you need to allow anyone to grow it and sell it! How awesome would it be to travel the country and show up at some local market and get local herbs and fruits? Schedule 3 will only proliferate the black market, sadly!
