Sam Rubin, one of the most respected and connected entertainment reporters in the nation, died suddenly on Friday at the age of 64. May 10, 2024. KTLA 5 News - Keeping Southern Californians informed since 1947.
I’ve been watching Ktla for 45 years. Every time a Ktla anchor dies I cried. But this one hit really hard. I think of them as part of my family. My wife and I have been crying for the last 30 minutes. Oh God. Sam Rubin, we’re going to miss you. Especially your cheerfulness. Than you, thank you, thank you.
I came to this country 32 years ago!!!!i didn’t speak English and I started watching TV and tried to understand what they said because Sam and his beautiful smile….He was one of the kind, sounds surreal he’s not here, with us…RIP…..beautiful Human Being
Man this was hard to watch Frank push through. Sam has been an icon of Los Angeles morning news for so long. Ktla has always been my morning news channel

Talk to the millions of people who have come to Hollywood and only found casting couches and elite sex parties to be drugged and raped. I left 18 yrs ago and still watched him on the internet and whenever I come to L.A. My mom called me this afternoon and broke the news!! He will be sorely missed!!!!!!
In my 30 yrs living in So. CA, I loved watching San Rubin. He brightened the day and was so positive. Prayers for his wife, children, colleagues and his many fans. RIP
Frank did an awesome job holding it together & keeping the words flowing. Shows what a big heart Frank has. Ruben will be missed we all loved him he did so much I don't know where all his energy came from we love you ❤️ ❤❤
So Cal loved you Sam. Hearing your voice always took me back to the 90s watching you before school. The sun shined different back then. You were a fixed point in a changing world.
You're absolutely right...the sun did shine different...I thought the same... before school my mom had on ktla and The sun would hit the entertainment center...and id hear the ktla news before school
As a native Los Angelino I've watched KTLA my entire life and have enjoyed watching Sam Rubin for half of it. Whenever it came to entertainment news, he was always home base to me. My heart is broken for his family and his colleagues. And to you, Frank Buckley, I so appreciate your professionalism through such obvious grief. Condolences to you all. RIP Sam Rubin.
RIP Sam. May God grant you peaceful journey home and continue watching over your family. More than 30 years watching you every morning, thank you for all the memories.
Sam Rubin was a class act. It took a lot of strength for Frank to give that news. May all of you at KTLA find comfort at such a difficult time. May you be blessed with all of the wonderful memories that you shared with him.
I had the privilege of helping Sam Rubin a few years ago ( maybe less than two years) at one of the retail places in woodland hills. One quiet night, he comes in and tells me he needed help picking hiking shoes for his son. I did help them and he was very down to earth. He did say they were going hiking and if I remembered it right, they were going to Oregon or Seattle. What stood out to me was the fact that I thought he looked very tired. Rest now in peace Sam Rubin. I can’t believe you are gone.
I grew up with Sam Rubin in L.A. I can’t believe he passed on so young. It’s such a shock! He was so positive and had great energy. Watching Frank Buckley have such pain and difficulty reporting this just made me cry. You can tell they had a great relationship and I commend Frank for showing emotion and letting his tears flow to let other men know, it’s okay to cry. May Sam he rest in peace.
My Aunt Carmen passed away this morning as well. She loved movies. She was our entertainment reporter. She would watch KTLA and Sam Rubin everyday and kept us up to date. She was our TMZ/Sam Rubin. Rest in peace Tia and Sam.
I am a Southern California now living in Colorado, saw this and felt so much sadness . He was part of my morning routine many years ago.He will be greatly missed missed.
Hats off to these anchors for pushing through. I can't even begin to imagine having to report on your dear friend and colleague within hours of learning of his passing. My sincere condolences to the KTLA crew, Sam's dearest friends and family.
Frank Buckley had me sobbing my eyes out. 😔 I’m SoCal born & bred so Sam has been a part of my life since I can remember. Beautiful souls leave enormous holes in our hearts when they leave this realm. May your memories of Sam comfort you during this unbelievably tragic loss KTLA family. 💔
Sending love from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I have Family in LA and KTLA always broadcasted up here in my house since I was a child. I'm 27 now and Sam was there every morning from when I woke up to get ready to school to now when I work from home and the TV is on in the background while I plugged away at my media job. Thank you Sam, we love you 💙
Sam was one of the most genuinely beautiful beings to walk on the face of this earth. He was kind, humble, gracious, funny, effervescent, a wonderful listener, and loved by many. I've followed him on KTLA for over 25 years.... he was a friend that I knew I could visit daily to count on for a laugh and a smile. His warm and welcoming smile is going to be missed. KTLA and the world will never be the same. RIP dear, sweet, friend. You will be missed... 1960-2024 💔🫶🏻🙏🏼💕✨️
I must say this … I have never been interested in Hollywood news but I watched it EVERY morning just to see Sam, he made his audience smile, he laughed at himself more than anyone. You will be missed beyond words Sam.
Thank you Sam Rubin for years of sometimes just background noise, but comforting. All the way from the days of Barbara Beck and Carlos Amezcua, you've been there. God Bless his family and the KTLA family. Great station. Locals.
Since setting foot in LA to visit my parents almost 30 years ago, KTLA has been my constant and only connection with SoCal. Sam, Frank and so many of the early morning news team have been my source of knowledge of all things LA, the hilarious, the poignant, the profound and the ridiculous. Rubin’s segments never failed to bring so much effervescent energy and joy to my otherwise quite solitary existence in an unfamiliar environment. LA will not feel like my second home without KTLA, and Sam is one of main reasons for my emotional attachment to the city and SoCal. You will be sorely missed, Sam. Thank you so much, Frank, for sharing such sad news with us with so much genuine emotion, humility, respect, and above all, affection. I will still tune in to KTLA when I am in town next. And I know I can expect to see the same level of energy and vibrancy that have almost been the hallmarks of KTLA. Love from England 💝
Very sad news. We love Sam in Australia. He has brought so much joy to this world. Through the darkess moments. We love him. A real authentic man that knew Australian humour with ease and with his use of words has been amazingly perfect for many years. Will miss him very very much.

Celebrating the life and memory of Sam Rubin. He brought our news to Los Angeles each day. Thank you very much for being part of our lives. Simply the best and better than all the rest.
I was on my lunch break earlier and heard the news on KNX. I am sad and in disbelief. I watch every morning before work and Sam always had me smiling or laughing to start my day. I feel like I know you all after watching for 20 plus years. My heartfelt condolences to the Ruben family and everyone at KTLA! I watched the tribute from 7 pm on and it was comforting to hear the stories about the man, the legend Sam Ruben. 🙏❤️
I heard the breaking news on KNX while on the 210. I could tell right away it was bad news because the reporter couldn’t announce it without difficulty. When she said the name I yelled No! even though I was alone. 😢

I grew up in Southern California, and when something bad was happening in the news, just hearing his voice, you knew everything was going to be okay. His voice and his presence, even thru a screen, will always mean home.

0:33😢 the moment when someone impacts your life and makes a change to make other remember you and how much they truly loved you not only as a coworker but as a friend. We all feel the same way that Frank does about Sam. He brought joy to all of us here in Southern California.
Born and raised in So Cal, have watched KTLA and Sam for yearrrrrrsssss....all those mornings getting the kids off to school. My entire fam loved him and always will!!! RIP Sam
I moved to California as a kid in the mid-90s. I basically grew up watching him every morning before school. He was a fun and interesting guy to watch on the news. Great personality. Great vibe. Man this is so unfair. Thank you for the memories, Sam. RIP.
I am so very sorry for the loss of your friend. I am from Texas, so I just “met” Sam through each of you. What a wonderful human he must have been. A true blessing to those who knew him. May you all find comfort in all those precious memories.🙏
I shared a few moments with Sam years ago at Golds Gym Hollywood next to him on a treadmill. The guy had no ego. He was as genuine as can be. And his reporting was part of my regular routine. I feel for his family and the KTLA family. I'm only a few years younger and need to remember not to take life for granted. He was a good guy. Probably a great one. RIP Sam
Sam Rubin & Chris Burrous one of a kind the best in the business talented and gifted made us all laugh countless times! Rest in peace brothers will never be forgotten
I'm in Australia and the sad news just came on our morning show. I didn't want to cry today, but here I am. Such a huge loss to his family and news family. He was a true gentleman. Hugs to you all 💐

I was so sorry to hear the passing of Sam. My son and I have been watching him on KTLA since the early 90's. Sam was a great interviewer and we loved his laugh! He will be greatly missed.
I am truly stunned. Gone too soon. Rest in peace, Sam. You made everyone’s life brighter. Thank you for all the smiles you made. Kind blessings to all his family at KTLA and at home.
Possibly the worst moment in Frank Buckley's broadcasting career and he did his absolute best to not only convey the terrible news, but to do so with raw emotion and humanity. Bravo sir for giving a friend and colleague the proper farewell he deserved.
I grew up watching Sam Rubin from the morning show. I moved to Oregon and heard this today and was deeply saddened. My heart goes out to his family, the KTLA family and all Angelino's in Los Angeles. It is fitting to know that the city of Angels, just gained another true angel to look after them daily from a distance. Thank you Sam for putting a smile on our faces every day.
