@bobvylan7215
@bobvylan7215 2 года назад
Norms death is odd in so many ways. I wondered what his fascination was with people's responses his last few years. He used to always have a joke or two that didnt matter to him, and he would drop them just to get responses, and you could see him childishly love the responses he gets. His epic Clinton bit on the View where he kept goading those women into shrieking Karenisms, was a great example of how he enjoyed the response he was getting, not necessarily what he was saying. His last 6 years or so, a whole ton of jokes seemed specifically designed to elicit responses. His look at people after he told a joke would change. He would tell it, and immediately look to who hes trying to get a response from, and just smile until he gets the response. Him getting Adam Eget to ask people where they got their ideas from is another great example of that. He's always smiling before they even respond to Adam. Then you find out he's been fighting a draw with cancer, and you begin to understand his fascination with people's responses as of late. The YT Big Comedy Live thing they did, and he brought Hitler into the Samberg interview, and Samberg continued the joke, you saw Norm light up. That literally made his day that Samberg didn't stop going. You literally watched an SNL guy earn respect from an alum. On the spot. The only silver lining is that alot of people are finding out now about how genius Norm was. Just how good he was. The shroud over that silver, is that he never got to see his impact. Never fully saw how many of us he affected. And in a sad, sad way, I think thats what makes Norm so special. Had he known the impact, or the pity, or the well wishes through his struggle, he couldn't have remained the guy he was. His comedy alone wouldn't allow it. As much as it hurts me, I also feel he went out in the most Norm way possible.
@michaelmeara6776

Being introduced to Norm and his style of comedy really changed what I thought was even possible. Watching him kind of exposed the fatal flaw in Louis CK's comedy which is that it is way too methodical, every second of his acr feels planned. This is a problem with alot of other stand ups. With Norm it was the opposite, you felt like he was just speaking off the dome, he was a natural. Every time I try to explain how special Norm is, I can never do it. One of the more thoughtful things I've ever heard to describe Norm's style. He was born with a personality and a perspective which created for him a unique delivery that no one can truly duplicate. He'd see the world in his own way and find his way into the expression of his ideas by following a route that no one else would even see, let alone be able to pull off in their delivery. Norm was 1 of a kind. So is Theo Von for that matter.

The first week after Norm's death, I really felt depressed, I was really pissed off and sad, crying and laughing at the same time, listening to his podcast and watching his videos while homeworking and, this kind of deep analysis of him with a simple and fast look at his genius, brought me back this feeling of "we've lost a precious land that havent been digged enough to discover all of its resources that would make us all wealthy and happier", that is equals to the phrase "we've lost a book that nobody has copies of". Im still heartbroken and its even idiotic feeling like this for someone that I didnt know. I just want to stop feeling this way. I really missed Norm, and I know, its stupid and even wrong.

I feel you. I don't know what this is. I've been binge watching Norm before and after his death and now not a day goes by without rewatching a couple of Norm videos. If I stumble upon something I haven't seen yet, I'm happy as a kid. Still can't believe I feel sad, depressed he's gone after almost two weeks already. I guess that's just the Norm effect...

Bro, you nailed it. It's been hard. I've never mourned a celebrity death before. But losing Norm so unexpectedly... Feels like losing your favorite uncle. I think it's because we had this dude, this off the cuff, wonderful, hilarious, deep and shallow man. His opinions and world view just made sense. In a world that makes no sense at all. It's been rough man, but it feels better that I'm not alone.

But, after seeing so many similar comments from people, it just shows the deep impact that Norm had on so many people. It's hard to think that we aren't going to be blessed with anymore of his incredibly funny & unique humor. Such an unbelievably talented & intelligent human being. There will never be another Norm. ❤

Theo actually reminds me a lot of Norm. Their comedic styles are very similar! They tell crazy stories that people can't always tell if it's true or not... and they can both basically make you laugh with very little effort it seems... and I could say the same exact things and people would just look at me... like I'm weird but totally not funny. Haha! You just can't replicate either of them.

He was so intelligent he could say ANYTHING. He’d wrap it in a joke that sometimes the politically correct (snobby, liberal, Hollywood type, etc.) or whoever he was targeting didn’t get. But when they did, it was framed in such a genius way, either they’d sound wrong for disagreeing or he was just undeniably correct. I’d love to know if this is just the way his mind worked or if he thought “this really bugs me, but I’m not allowed to say this anymore🙄 so… ” would he then work backwards from this point and build the joke so he could say what he wanted to but cleverly look like he could be on either side of an issue, or one of the many genius methods he used? I specifically loved when he’d be talking to snobby Hollywood elites who would underestimated Norm. His brilliance allowed him to tell jokes that went so far above their heads either they’d just look lost or they’d think he was bombing when in fact it was them 😂

When some lady on his podcast was grandstanding about caring about the muslims unfair stereotypes norm responded with: “My worst fear… is that some Arabic terrorist organization, would get its hands on a dirty bomb, and blow it up over a major metropolitan area, killing tens of millions, and that the blowback from that towards Muslims would be so terrible.

I’ve been recently seeing Norm getting cancer as a blessing... Now hear me out. The material and interviews/discussions that were brought out of him were some of the most beautiful, thought provoking, and hilarious antidotes I’ve had the privilege to hear/see. It made his material have much more substance then if he never got sick and ruminated on these topics. I value Norms comedy as much as I value his overall outlook and philosophy on life. I just wish Norm would’ve made a last video or just anything to give closure. But that’s just the selfish side of me cause it hurts, and feels like someone I loved was taken so abruptly. I’m definitely going to miss this guy as long as I’m alive, and no doubt I’ll pass on his genius to whomever will listen.

Yes, I have been thinking for over a week now how I could explain what I was feeling about loosing Norm, and you are exactly right, it feels like loosing a book no one has a copy of. I cannot tell you how many days of just an awful low, a type of depression you find it a chore just to take a breathe, I could come to YT while lying in my very cold, very dark room and if only for 10 min or so, Norm and his comedy genius could give me a moment of solace. I have heard in the older days about comics like Norm, but I truly feel he was a one of a kind. I do not get caught up in celebrity, I don't grieve often over a person who I did not personally know, so far for me it's only been Tom Petty and Norm that their passing hit me hard as if I knew them personally because of the moments throughout my life that these two men seemed to me to be a part of.
