Lee Chapel and Museum presents Remembering Robert E. Lee with a speech by noted author and Civil War historian Frank A. O'Reilly on Monday, Oct. 14, at 12:15 p.m. in the Lee Chapel Auditorium. The title of O'Reilly's talk is "Adapt, Improvise, and Overcome: Robert E. Lee's Greatest Victory at Chancellorsville." O'Reilly will talk about the battle of Chancellorsville from Lee's point of view as it is usually presented from Stonewall Jackson's point of view.

Mr. O'Reilly is a profound speaker, master historian and the man who can convey us into the past and show us its relevance today in our everyday lives. This event and the work of Mr. O'Reilly needs more exposure. This was a master class in history and historic story telling.

I have just listened to Mr O'Reilly's description of the last days of General Jackson. I am not an American but I was very moved by his empathy. I felt as if I was in the room during the General's passing. Thank You.

I have done reenactments in the past,in the Trans-Mississippi dept. west of the river of the same name. I have only been at one reenactment in the East,2008 Gettysburg. The 145th anniversary of the battle @ Gettysburg. I have seen people and heard their foreign languages. I have always wondered why people of other countries would even be interested in our problems between 1861-65. DEO VINDICE

So who are the seven generals killed or wounded while commanding an army during the war? I can think of the following: 1. Joseph Hooker, Army of the Potomac, Chancellorsville 2. James B. McPherson, Army of the Tennessee, at Atlanta 3. Albert Sidney Johnston, Army of Mississippi, Shiloh 4. Joseph E. Johnston, Army of Northern Virginia, Seven Pines Who am I missing?

Me and My Dad had the privilege of meeting Mr. O’Reilly two weeks ago at the Stonewall Jackson Death Site. He was very welcoming and friendly with a great knowledge of the events that took place. It made you feel like you were right there as the events unfolded.

wow are you saying God bless the inhumane treatment of Africans in the USA. The rapes, lynchings, whippings, setting Africans on Fire. Terrorist Lee beat Africans for the letters of the Alphabet among other things and poured salt on African's wounds.

Chancellorsville was not Lee's greatest victory, because all the Confederates did was to push back the AotP; it was merely his most startling one. Fredericksburg was Lee's greatest victory, because the AoNV held it's ground and inflicted over twice as many casualties on the AotP- which is the kind of thing that the Confederates needed to do to have any realistic chance of victory.

Lee was a traitor to the country. He believed in slavery as a necessity. Why he was pardoned and Jefferson Davis wasin prison I don’t understand. I have no admiration for him

There were slave states fighting on both sides. Lee did not choose virginia because he wanted to end slavery or keep slaves....literally every primary source we have confirms this. He saw his loyalty to Virginia as superior than his loyalty to The US. He was against secession and the war itself....Once the war began he did his duty as a Virginian
