What do you remember about that year? Did you have a movie or TV show that you watched? I cataloged all the Christmas media from 1988 sprinkled in with TV specials, events, and a few retro commercials that we all loved.
I was 7. I had strep throat bad on Christmas Day. Had to go to the emergency room for antibiotics. Felt horrible. Didn't feel well enough to open my gifts. I got my own NES that year and the Alphie robot.
I think that was the year I got my NES as well. My favorite has always been the Christmas sitcoms but if I had to pick a favorite movie I would have to go with Ernest Saves Christmas
I was 16. I'm 51 now. This video brings me back so much when both my parents were alive and Im their only child. Christmas back then was so magical. This actually brings tears to my eyes just wishing things could go back like that. With both parents and Christmas break from school was the best. Especially the last day in school before they let us out for Xmas. Candy canes, games, and all around fun. I'd give anything to go back. Thank you for this video. I really needed to see this. It makes me feel 16 all over again. Thank you with all my heart. I loved this,! Oh my it's fruitcake weather.
Wow 1988, I just turned 21 that October. It was a great year. We had seen so many rock concerts from 83-88. Styx was the first. Then Ozzy Osborne and Mötley Crüe, then Iron Maiden and Twisted Sister, Cinderella and Bon Jovi were close to 88 I think. I had gotten a decent job, and overall it was a fun time. For me the best Christmas 🎄 experiences were the mid to late 70's and early 80's.
For a number of reasons, I had a hard time getting into Christmas, this year. All the usual stuff I watch to feel nostalgic just wasn’t hitting. But this video helped out a lot! Even though it’s December 27 and I’m ready to go back to “normal,” I could still use a dose of holiday cheer. Subscribing because I hope you do more like this!
@@ChristmasAficionado,thanks! Can't wait 😊especially because I get depressed at Christmas, but I like to watch Christmas stuff,AFTERWARDS! Just found your channel & subbed 😊
I remember that Wonder Years episode--Kevin drags Paul to the store to search for a perfume for Winnie... that she already owns, i think? We had a lot of those episodes taped on Betamax back in the day. :) Good times.
Wow, 1988, the year I was born. I'm glad that so many videos exist about the 70s and 80s, so I can live vicariously through them because I can't go back in time to see these events myself in person.
Christmas 88 I remember being told there was no Santa since my dad worked for grandfather at the mine and gold prices had crashed year before,I was 7 my brother Dylan was just a baby and brother jeff was 4.Also it was my mom's birthday so I still had to put on a smile or get an old fashioned 80s beating 😂 Thankfully 89 was better and a secret Santa hooked me up with a Gameboy.Great video really hit me in the❤Sidenote I watched all these specials on a Montgomery Ward Tv
@@ChristmasAficionado I saw it on my feed and I will! Greta videos I like the recommendations you put up too, Scrooged is definitely the best telling of the Dickens classic
I was 12. I remember watching that Brady bunch special. I miss those Christmases. It was seemingly magical when I was a kid and most of my family was alive.
People often generalize eras by the decade like they were just one cultural block when in reality cultural shifts can occur within a matter of couple of years. The early 80s, mid 80s and late 80s had their own vibes. In some ways the late 80s to early 90s were a more polished version of the 80s, sort of like the 80s 2.0 ha. Then the emergence of grunge and gangsta rap into the mainstream ruined the positive vibes (IMHO) and younger people became more disillusioned and jaded. When I look back at that time, it almost feels like an alternate timeline rather than a continuation of the dysfunctional society that we live in today.
We are living in the End Times. The Bible says People's love will grow cold and deceivers will get worse and deceive many. Jesus will come back and fix everything, but don't wait to accept salvation. We never know how much time is left. If you are saved, these bad times will be completely forgotten. You will have an eternity to be happy.
In 1988, I was 16 years old😊 the Best years of my life !!🤩 I had great teenage years in the 80’s -90's 🤗 If I could time travel, I sure would go back then!!!😂❤
@@ChristmasAficionado I remember loving THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIR, THE GOLDEN GIRLS and THE COSBY SHOW. I loved sitcoms!😄Still do! I loved soaps too back then ( not anymore... too much drama..) 😀 I use to taped THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL, watch it after school😁!!
Christmas 1988 was a nice Christmas as I was 11 years old and instead of my aunt, my parents threw the neighborhood Christmas Eve party at our house that year. We had a lot of family and friends over, and I remember getting a nice present from my childhood sweetheart. A nice kiss under the mistletoe. And the first Christmas Santa didn't come see me as I quit believing in Santa months earlier. But I got some nice gifts from my folks. I got a talking Pee Wee Herman doll, a Roger Rabbit doll, a Micro Machines city playset with lots of Micro Machine cars. And got my older brother's old stereo as he got a new stereo system for Christmas that year. Grandma got me several videos of old cartoons such as Bugs Bunny, Superman, and the Popeye which I remember watching some of them that night after my parents, older brother, and sister went to bed. And the next day, my Mom took me and my older siblings out of town to do some after Christmas shopping, which was a blast.
This was the first Christmas my family spent in Florida after moving there in the summer. I was 17 and working at the McDonalds on the Navy base my father was stationed.
@@ChristmasAficionado Of course! After all didn't one popular 80s singer say we are living in a cereal world? :D ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nuSoXIbgNmM.html
Christmas '88, I was 9 and had/was going through some significant life changes. The neighborhood we lived in was changing up and kids were moving out. Many friends were gone for good and others were moving to different parts of town, as well as getting a few new ones. However, it always felt like more were leaving than coming in (and my family would move the next summer). My sister was two months old, so it was her first Christmas. It was the first without my Grandfather who had passed just weeks after my sister was born. It affected me deeply because we had such a great relationship, and my mother had only recently remarried so he was the most significant adult male role model in my life at that time. He used to brew beer, and his last batch was drunk in celebration/memory of him that Christmas Eve with everyone there.
Yea we only moved across town but it was still a new neighborhood, new school, etc. But that Christmas I got the Real Ghostbusters Proton Pack, and it was my favorite gift that year...even if it was like 2 years after it came out lol. But that's what it was like sometimes lol. We didn't even get an NES until like 90/91 lol.
To Be Honest 1988 Was Such A Great Year For Horror Films Cartoons TV Shows Commercials Toys Christmas Movies Music Videos Songs Actions Films History Makers Clothes Hair And Last But Not Least Teen Heartthrobs Just To Name A Few Mario Lopez And Ll Cool J Both Of Them Are Very Goodlooking Very Attractive Men ❤🎉😊
I started this series with the year 1989 because that is the year I remember being amazing. However, as I started working on 1988 it had so many fun things. I only focus on the Christmas things, but you are right it had a lot of great things that happened that year!
The 80s is the decade that destroyed humanity and the American psyche. Were now living in a society with smooth brain seniors that caused all this mess and all of us peasants to hate each other/stay divided while we quickly move to a two class economic system. We work way too much and way harder than they ever did for far less
40 years from now, people will be looking at 2024, and all its facets, with nostalgia, saying, "Those were the days." And they are. But, so were the 80s, in their own way. A way that will never come again.
here at 600 likes i could say many things but i will just say 80 90s was great just think it still be like that if the internet didn't come online but then we all couldn't be in here lol idk win some lose some what i can say for 80s till now was just as bad then as it is now just less tech back then but all the aids crack unabomber y2k all the wars till now and assignation attempts i use to work at the hotel Ronald Reagan was shot. These videos give you the nostalgia but i bet if most thought about it they wouldn't want to go back to those times getting that whippen from that report card or stealing dad's car whippen lol xyz you get it the now is the best cause that is where we are cheers
