I’m 75. I remember the dodgers coming to Los Angeles when I was a kid. And then there was this voice coming out of the radio. Mesmerizing. Hypnotic. Spellbinding. That voice would weave nine innings of baseball play by play mixed with wonderful baseball stories. You could almost smell the grass on the field and the hotdogs in the stands. He taught us the game. He taught us the rules. He brought the ballpark into our homes. He taught us to love baseball. He caused something to happen for the first time in baseball. People brought their transistor radios to the ballpark, even though the game was right in front of them, to listen to Vinnie call the game. I’m tearing up writing this.

My Dad was 2 year younger than you. He too had the same experience and passed his love for the Dodgers and Vin along to me. I've dreaded this day my whole life. Thankfully I was speaking to my lifelong best friend and fellow Dodger fan Shawn and HE broke the news to me. I immediately had to hang up and go cry my eyes out. A part of me and a part of my childhood died with Vin. Thank you for this.

I met Vin here in Las Vegas during a Spring Training stop for the Dodgers. I work in TV and I had the job of setting up the announce booth for the teams that would play that day. As I was putting some monitors in place, in comes Mr. Scully, we learned early in our career to be as polite as we could be to the “talent” and after I said “I’ll be out of your way in just a minute Mr. Scully” he looked around and replied “Mr. Scully? That was my Dad, I’m Vin and you are?” After laughing a bit I introduced myself and for the next hour he went out of his way to speak with an old camera guy who lived in Las Vegas but was a die hard Giants fan. He made me feel like an old friend within seconds, yes, knowing I was a Giants fan. So two years later the Dodgers return to Las Vegas and I was blessed to be on the TV crew again and yes, doing the same job as previously I had done. But this time, I walk into the announce booth and Vin is sitting there preparing for the game, he looks up, sees me and without so much as a hesitation says “Hey Christian! (my name) How are you? How’s your wife and daughter? Is she still playing soccer?” I was floored….. It took a moment for ME to gather my thoughts and I replied “ok Vin look, how am I supposed to respond to you when you know I’m a Giants fan?” His response with a wink was “well, we’ll keep praying and trying to convert you…” We talked for an hour and a half this time….. I’ve been very blessed to work with many many great announcers in many different sports and I can honestly say that Vin Scully was not only the Greatest of All Time, he was also the sweetest and most compassionate man in that position I have ever met. BTW, I almost became a Dodgers fan because of him…..

I was truly heartbroken when I found out the news yesterday evening. This man has been the voice for almost my entire life. His like my Grandfather,Father,best friend even though I have never met him. I feel like I knew him. I cried like a baby last night just knowing that he will not be around. I’m glad he saw the Dodgers win the World Series in 2020. Vin you will live in our hearts forever until the day we meet in heaven….God bless his Family and the entire Dodgers organization for such a huge loss. We love you Vin! God needed the best to call his games up in heaven.

I hear you, my friend. Back in the early ‘70s, the postgame show had a “Your Questions, Our Answers” to which, you could send a question and if it was used, you’d get a pair of game tickets. I’ll never forget when I received an autographed picture postcard of Vinny on the steps of the Dodger dugout. In the same handwriting on the other side, a note said “Thanks for listening. I hope you hear your question soon! Vin.” I have had that card with me now for 57 years and it is a most cherished possession. Vin has a most unique grin, and I remember practicing the look in my mirror. It’s funny. Looking back in family pictures from 1970 thru my teens, and even publicity shots during the early part of my own radio career, there’s me sporting that endearing Scully smile. When I was offered the play-by-play job with the local Triple-A baseball team, man, did I lean on Vin. I realized really early on that what he did on his games was anything but easy. I had to work and dig like crazy to get material to do a 100th of the job Vin did. In 1980, Vin was interviewed on, I think, HBO, and he confirmed that he did hours of prep. Vinny was baseball to me. In so many ways he was a life coach, too. Vinny really loved talking to us, and that was obvious with every game he did. It was obvious when, post-retirement, he got rid on Twitter. He’d record himself chatting… maybe talking about current baseball, or things he recalled from the game he was a part of for 67 years. I’m glad he did those pieces on Twitter. I think he knew it helped those of us for whom Vin Scully always provided civility and love in a world that has far too little of both.

I was born, in L.A. in 1956. The Dodger games were on the radio 4 or 5 days a week. I, quite literally, listened to Vinny, every game until his retirement. We went to hundreds of games in Chavez Ravine. I learned so much about baseball, baseball history, and life in general from Vinny. .....Unknowingly, at the time. After he retired, it has never even close to being as fun, and informative to listen or watch any ball game since Vinny retired. I am sure that ALL Angelinos share these same memories, and are truly heartbroken with A true member of L.A.s family having passed. Rest in Peace, Vinny. You are the absolute best of the best. All of us Love you, respect you, and miss you. Can't Express how much this man made to all Angelinos. ❤❤❤👍👍👍💔💔💔

Cubs fan here... You don't have to be a Dodger fan to want to check in to watch a video like this. Vin Scully is baseball. The last of the old guard of baseball's greatest class of broadcasters. And as much as I loved listening to Harry Caray growing up I think Vin is easily the best of the bunch. It's all of baseball that mourns this loss.

My father was heartbroken when he found out his sister (my Tia), passed away back in Feb this yr. Then he finds out about Vin Scully's passing and he was devastated. I sat next to him, gave him a hug, and I told him "Look on the bright side dad, Tia is now hanging out with Tommy Lasorda and Vin Scully." R.I.P to a TRUE ICON! R.I.P Vin Scully! As cliche as it sounds, I was indeed one of those young boys with a transistor radio tucked under my pillow, listening to Vinny call the game way past my bedtime. Because he was so great, I could SEE every pitch, every hit, every out. I continued to listen to Vin for another 50+ years after that. What a tremendous gift he gave to my life.

Simply, the voice of my childhood! Growing up in Culver City Ca. you could be outside on any Saturday or Sunday afternoon in the middle of summer while neighbors would be washing their car or trimming their hedges and hear the voice of VIN SCULLY describing DODGER baseball! We all new life was good, baseball is good, our beloved DODGERS are good! I was 12 years old, and now I'm 63 and there is NO DOUBT that VIN SCULLY will ALWAYS be the SHINING STAR in the City of Los Angeles!! I still hope to meet VINNY one day and shake his hand! I Hurt like all Dodger Fans for his loss, but grateful for what VINNY meant to all of us!

I'm a Phillies fan and one of my favorite parts of every season was when the Phils made their annual road trip to LA and I could put on the Dodgers telecast and listen to Vin call the game. I'm going to miss Vin as much as I still miss Harry. May he truly rest in peace. God bless.

Mr. Scully loved Montreal and looked forward to going there when the Expos existed and the Dodgers came to play there. One of the saddest moments of his baseball broadcasting career also happened in Montreal in 1993 when his broadcast partner Don Drysdale didn't come to the ballpark and was found dead in his hotel room from a sudden heart attack. Mr. Scully admitted he didn't want to go on with that night's broadcast but was able to do it through his tremendous grief

Vin Scully was to baseball and to sports as cracker jacks, apple pie, peanuts, popcorn, hot dogs, and everything else in between, he was the voice of reason, he was a voice who brought Joy to the world through Sports of any kind, no matter if it was baseball, or football, or any kind of sport even sumo. He could make you feel energetic. We share with all fans especially in Los Angeles today and abroad, our sense of loss too. We feel just as you feel, a sense of grief, a sense of appreciation, and a sense of pride. Before he became famous, he was a New Yorker, but when he did sports, he became a living treasure to all of us. There will never be another like him ever, he was one of a kind, and the type of mold of inspiration to Future journalists and sports commentators and so forth. Particularly this one who recently graduated from Bergen Community College who inspires to become a broadcasting journalist and more. Good night dear sir, good and faithful servant, May flights of Angels Sing t h e e to thy rest, we have the watch from here and we will continue to cheer on and enjoy baseball knowing that you left your imprint upon history in sports.

Every man breathes his last breath and in that moment it's not about the lives that touched you it's about the lives you touched. And boy did Vin touch so many. It's easy to sit here and reminisce on all his calls and moments. But that would only be scratching the surface of from what all accounts a truly amazing human Vin was. I cried last night for a man I never met but he was a familiar face and voice. He was more than an announcer he was the soundtrack to our summers and voice of our childhood. At my house he was more than the voice of the Dodgers he was family. He never spoke to all of us. He spoke directly to you. I've been dreading this day since I can remember. Vin your legacy your candor your ability to say nothing and everything all at once has never been lost on me. I cried when you retired and cried more last night when the news broke. But not because you're gone but because you've done everything one man can do in the vessel we call life. Now you being a man of faith I'm sure are reunited with your sweet Sandi! Vin you are family not just to me but everyone who ever loved the Dodgers. You're the reason why summer is was and always will be the best season. Why when fall came we sat there and counted the days until we heard God's voice call one more time "it's time for Dodger baseball". You sir did more for my Fandom than I can ever repay you with. Wonderful tribute to Vin . As a lifelong Giants , I only heard Vin a few times broadcasting games . When I was with the US Army's 7th Division , we had a field exercise down on the Central Coast at Ft. Hunter Leggitt . During the evening when not much was going on , we could tune in the Dodgers and listen to Vin . It was great . Here we were , living like ground squirrels in our holes and bunkers , 8 days without a shower in the summer of 1977 , and here was baseball perfectly described , night after night . Unforgettable .

When I was in my late teens and early twenties the Dodgers were on KTLA. Before every game there was a segment called "Ask the Dodgers". I was watching one day, and Vin Scully said my name, and Tommy Lasorda went on to answer my question. I still think of that as one of the best memories of my life. I was so excited. Now that they are both gone I feel like part of me is gone too. RIP Vin.

Agreed. Even for those of us with toxic families, Vin made those families feel safer for a while with his presence. It's hard to look back on a difficult childhood. Vin really was a strong, healthy presence in dark times.

i met Mr. Scully when i was working at the Mission Viejo Country Club. i was the supervisor of Tennis abd Pool facilities,but i was in the locker room when he walked in and asjed if i could ckean his golf shoes. it wasn't my job, but of course i did it. he came back later and said he shot tge best round of his life"It must have been the shies!".he gave me $10 which i handed to Tam the Vietnamese refugee who cleaned and pokished shoes. imagine that. I am not a Dodger fan but a baseball fan who loves the history of the game so much. I grew up near Chicago where the baseball voices of Bob Elson and Jack Brickhouse and Harry Carey were the staple in Chicago baseball history. But this week I been looking at tons of Vin Scully moments in his career and I get chills and tears thinking about Vinny and what he has meant to the game of baseball I love so much. Thank you, Vinny, for all the memories and God bless your family and to not just the Dodger fans but to all the fans of baseball all over the world you were the best voice for the greatest game man ever invented

I don't think there's a scale to accurately measure the positive impact that Mr. Scully had on countless people over the years. I have never known a life without Vin and this man is responsible for keeping me up on many school nights on the radio. "Celebrities" come and go but I am genuinely sad and miss him already.

Words are hard to come by. How many people did he touch? How many lives did he affect? For generations of sports fans, that number is immeasurable. He made you realize that even if you lost that it was ok. If the sun of your character and good deeds determine if you go to Heaven. I believe Vin got the Red Carpet treatment but Vin was very reluctant to take it. For those who heard him you were given a great Honor. For those who didn't, well you missed out. Growing up in Brooklyn in the 50s, all the games were on TV. Vin would do three innings and also three on radio. At that time I would kill the TV sound and listen to him there. I’m in my 70s and living in South Carolina, but still a Dodger fan. He was on of a kind.

Vin passed away a day before my 57 th birthday. I was born August 3, 1965. On August 2, 2022 like many of you, the news of his passing hit me hard. I was a huge fan of Vin Scully. I remember listening to him on Dodger radio growing up, calling NFL games for CBS in the mid 70’s to early 80’s and to NBC baseball game of the week from 1983 to 1989. I also got a glimpse of his short lived weekday afternoon show, The Vin Scully Show on CBS daytime in 1973. I was age 7 at that time. In 1989, I met Vin in person at a Dodgers/ Padres game in San Diego when I was stationed there in the Navy. Meeting Vin Scully in personal n was one of the best moments in my life. Our 10 minute chat was the best. Stories and memories that are a treasured gem. Vin was one of the finest people I ever met. An icon and a class act. He will be missed. RIP Vin Scully!

Vin scully, epitomized, what it is to be the true, artful Dodger! He started as a Giants fan, but it wasn't long before he learned to love our boys in Blue! My family moved to Los Angeles in 1958, I was 3 years old. Got caught with my transistor radio in 1965, at school. They took my radio. Gave it back later. They rolled the television into our auditorium, so we could watch game 7. R.I.P. to my lifelong friend, that I never had the pleasure to meet. 💙. 🌎☮️🔀⚾. 💙

Beautiful tribute! I'm 29 and i was 23 when Scully retired. I would occasionally hear Scully on the radio at home and behind me with fans having their sets in the stands. He was also the bedtime voice in my dad's childhood home in East LA. I was there on May 3rd 2017 attending the game with my dad. That rare opportunity you get to see Vin on the field in person. To me and my dad, Scully was a tradition just as much as the Dodgers themselves were. My dad was also at Game 1 in '88 with my late Grandpa and Uncle.

My father grew up in Southern California. When we visited my grandparents we'd go see the Dodgers play. Like most of you I remember hearing him call games on the many radios tuned in around the ballpark. I watched the '88 World Series and will never forget Gibson's homerun which Vin called on TV. I'm bias since I'm a Dodger fan so will say he was truly one of the all time greats. Last week I was thinking about his age and how long he had left on earth. He lived a long life and is loved and appreciated by baseball fans everywhere. RIP Vin Scully.

As a kid in East L.A. (City Terrace hills) from our living room we'd watch the Dodger game on TV with the TV muted and listening to Vin on the radio. When the game wasn't televised my brothers and I would sit in our backyard balcony and listen to the radio and just stare at the lights from Dodger stadium. He was a part of our life and that's why I shed tears!! Thanks Vin for all those great memories

Growing up in greater Los Angeles as a child, I always listened to “Vince Scully” as my grandfather said. When I turned 7 years old my grandfather, who went to Chavez ravine and recorded the building of dodger stadium and recorded it being built on his hand held, suffered a massive stroke. Much like Anthony Hopkins character in legends of the falls, he could not speak coherently and was severely handicapped. “Vince” was our bridge, he spoke to us both when we couldn’t speak to each other. Losing Vin, for me, is like losing my grandfather again. I love you Vince, thank you for giving my grandfather a voice. I will never forget you and will make sure my children won’t either.

I had the honor of running into Vinny one faithful Sunday afternoon at Dodger stadium when he came in early to prepare for the game. I vividly remember saying, hello GREAT Vinny, all he said back to me was there's nothing great about me. What a humble person he was. R.I.P. Great Vinny 💙

I'm watching this beautiful tribute to the amazing Vin Scully on a bus headed back to Las Angeles from visiting my father in Tijuana and I am losing it!! I am grateful I didn't break down in front of my dad because he is the reason that I love Vin Scully and everything about the Dodgers!! I couldn't believe we lost him yesterday! I can't begin to explain how much he meant to me and my family. I haven't had this overwhelming feeling of sadness and gratefulness at the same time. I'm trying hold back the many tears running down my face. Rest easy good sir and say hello to heaven and all the amazing people that have the privilege of having you there ✨️ ❤️ The world is much more sad now that the greatest sportscaster of all time has taken his final bow...

Vin was my favorite since I was ten years old in Brooklyn. He was amazing and was the Dodgers voice. We loved that he was a lip reader and would tell what was being said during screaming matches between umpire vs manager. “Fertilizer!” Instead of “B_____it!”. When the Dodgers retreated to the left coast, the only times I saw Vin afterward was when he did World Series games and I enjoyed his work. Especially when my newer favorites, the Mets, played in 1986 series. He was a gem.

One time when I went a game at Dodger Stadium, we sat several rows in front of the broadcasting area, and looking over my shoulder I could see Vin Scully calling the game. I don't think that's a memory that will ever leave me. Thank you for being my summer soundtrack, Vinnie. It will ALWAYS be "time for Dodger baseball."

We in LA have been spoiled. We had the best basketball announcer in Hearn and the best sports announcer in Scully. I used to turn the volume off on TV and listen to Vince on the radio when I watched the Dodgers play and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that did that. RIP Vinny and if you run into Mickey Mantle up there, my favorite player, tell him an Angeleno thinks he's the best ever.

Mr. Scully was a very strong Catholic and admitted that it was his faith that got him through the death of his first wife and an accident that cost him his son. He was a very strong proponent of praying the rosary to the Blessed Virgin Mary as he knew that she was the main intercessor with God. Mr. Scully produced many videos on the instruction on how to pray the rosary with an organization of Christian Athletes

My grandpa lived in Brooklyn when the dodgers were there and when the dodgers moved to Los Angeles, he moved. My Grandpa passed away shortly after Vin last year and I hope they are both together. Miss you both🥹

A good win yesterday over the Giants but a bittersweet day as well. I grew up with Vin Scully and I can't believe he's gone. Just as terrible when Chick Hearn passed away 20 years ago. I will miss Vin Scully forever. Nobody can ever fill his shoes.

My father was a ranger in Sequoia park for the summer times when I was a kid. One of my favorite memories was sleeping in a cabin at night and hearing the faint and staticky Dodger game being called by Vin Scully and Ross Porter on a little transistor radio. It was perfect.
