This has always been a toy I wanted ever since I saw it in a book when I was 16ish. Traditions or Uberti or someone was making repros in .357, .44, and .45 around that time, but Idk. it loses some of it's majesty when it doesn't start with a 5

Well done. The selection of this pistol vs. a traditional cap & ball, a transitional, or a soon to be SAA, is an intriguing one. However, Texas Ranger Capt. Leander McNelly also opted for single shot long arms for his men, when lever actions were available, but that's a story for another day. 👍👍

Uberti used to make a nice replica in .357, .22mag and .22LR, I've always wanted one, it has been called the finest single shot target pistol ever made.

It was the best of times, it was the FIRST of times🥇. Now the Remington Rolling block RIFLES were a different story. While not repeaters, they were offered in the more potent calibers of the day like .45-70 and .50-70. Nelson Story's party picked up some 30 of these rifles in Levenworth, KS in .56-56 in July 1866 during his famous cattle drive to Montana. Shortly thereafter his party was attacked and successfully used the rifles to repulse attacks by Red Cloud's warriors. This was significant because the Wagon Box Fight is often sited as being significant in the first use of breach loading rifles to repulse a mounted Indian attack, but that didn't occur until a little over a year after Nelson Story's battle with Red Cloud's warriors.

Years ago one of the Italian repro companies offered them in 357magnum. I wish I had bout one back then as they are hard to find and very expensive now days.

It seems surprising to me that they didn't originally mirror the lobe on the right side of the block. Then you would have a perfect thing for a rear sight. It would have been tall enough for volly markings.

I would love to take one of those Hog Hunting . I seem to remember seeing one of these handguns with a detachable shoulder stock once. But I think it was a replica because the caliber was smaller. Here is a challenge for you, make one pocket sized in .45 auto -rim !

The Russians adopted the Rolling Block pistol for their cavalry for the same reasons, at least by their generals.

This is one of my dream guns. I have never had an opportunity to buy one or I would have. My first pistol was someone's garage modification of a little single shot rifle cut down to a 10 inch barrel, no sights and a home carved pistol grip. I know it is now illegal, back then that law was new to the books and I had no idea, hell I was only 12 when I bought it from a fellow who worked combining on a neighboring farm. I had a blast with it but dry fired it to much and broke the firing pin. Sold it for 10 bucks and never saw it again till 1973 when I joined the PD and there it was in the evidence locker. It had found it's way into the hands of a drug dealer who used a different gun to shoot at my sister who was friends with his x wife. Later it was cut in half by the ATF. Sad really.

A good friend of mine had one of these, a navy arm, in similar condition. He sold it last winter at a gunshow, with 50 rounds of ammo. He got about 1500 USD, I believe.

I've always liked this pistol just because it is such an odd gun, but explaining to an officer that the Army is planning on taking his 6 shooter and replacing it with a single shot had to a tough talk to have. I like how you shot the video over your right shoulder so we could see the "No rapid fire -Members only" sticker on the range wall. Firing a rolling block rapidly enough to call it "Rapid Fire" couldnt even be accomplished by Jerry Miculek HA HA!

If I remember right, Remington got screwed by the government on that deal.

It would be cool to have a Linebaugh single action revolver in this calibre just for bragging rights. A variety of Webley copies were made in similar chamberings.

As simple as these are, it's a shame we don't have a manf. who would make them again. Better sights and a wide selection of calibers would make this a nice trainer, plinker and match gun. Quite alot of fun IMO.

I’d still like to see an accuracy test at a reasonable distance

300 grains at 600 FPS would be serious medicine at close range but i'd guess quite a curvature over any distance.

I have two questions, #1 what cal. were the 1858s converted to? #2 where can I get a replica 1871 in .45 colt, It would serve the same function as a Rossi Brawler (shooting grouse while deer hunting) but with a lot more class.Thanks a lot, a fun and informative show!

Bet you could fire 7 shots from a cartridge firing single shot than you could from a cap and ball revolver.

I could understand it if it was a Double Barrel or possibly 3 or 4 barrels.

As a real weapon in actual battle, no thanks. As a set of dueling pistols with some tasteful bling, or a target pistol with a suitable rear sight, yes please. To think of what the 1873 SAA offered compared to this 1871 single shot is mind boggling.

No rapid fire! Following this instruction certainly requires a lot of self-control.
