I have an 870 Express that I won in a gun raffle a few years ago, and Remington was owned by the Freedom Group, so I have a feeling that the QC on it was ... "substandard." This video is absolutely what I was looking for, to upgrade the internals to a Police Magnum standard (or close to it).
I just added a SJ Hardware carrier dog spring: big improvement. I also installed a Volquartsen extractor with a Wolff extractor spring, a Wolff exta power magazine spring with a Brownell's aluminum follower, and finally a titanium firing pin with a Wolff firing pin spring. It's like having a whole new shotgun. Good video.
Just want say thank you. Just up graded with s&j jumbo safety, dog carrier spring, extractor, follower. Watched this video and then proceeded to do the up grades, took me about 10 min total. Very much appreciated this video, made it easy to do. Many thanks from Canada 🍁
Thanks for your note. The upgrades really turned your shotgun into a rock solid reliable Beast. If you don't mind...please have your shooting friends subscribe to my RU-vid channel. Thank you and best regards, Scott
Thank you. I have just purchased an 870 Express and am still in the CA waiting period. This video is very helpful for me as I plan my upgrades. Currently waiting for 18.5" barrels to become available again.
I love this Scott! I've wondered for so long how to break down and upgrade my triggsafety. Also make my shotgun more safe! Not that it needs it but This was awesome and exactly what I was looking for! My letterman worked perfectly thanks!
I bent the damn spring clip pin retainers that snap into the rings machined into the trigger pins while removing the pins. Good thing I was installing anti walk pin replacements haha.
I wish I new about this before I had three Remington Express models I got rid of because of feeding and ejection problems so I changed brands and started buying Mossberg shotguns because I didn't have any problems with them when I buy a new Remington I will change out these parts I was checking out a tac 14 Remington shotgun and I noticed the mim extractor.
Dude all you had to do was polish the part of the barrel extention that mates with the receiver. You don't need to do any of those upgrades. As a matter of fact I have a new 2020 made express that required nothing. It worked right out of the box I have a video or 2 on it.
I did these upgrades to my 870 'tactical'. I wish I could swap the barrel to something I could hunt birds with, but barrels aren't interchangeable with the tactical.
You push on the left and right shell latches, not the action slide arms. That little terminology error will have people banging their heads on the table or potentially messing up the shell latches by trying to force it. Good video though 👍
If anyone reads this, if you want an 870 that doesn't have dimples, buy a remington 870 tactical or an older 870 and then just buy an older detent lockdown barrel on ebay. If you want strictly defense, just buy a new police model. The amount of time and money you will put in an express will be more then just buying the actual police magnum model. GET AN OLDER WINGMASTER FOR CHEAP..
Not bad advice. An 870 cost $100 in 1960. Normally today it's $300-ish. The price in 1960 is equal to $900. You can get parts and a ceracoating for the difference. And I think the re-built one would be better, since the newer police models don't seem to be as good as they used to My tuppence worth
guys you don't need any of these upgrades, they are mere gimmicks to make you spend money on stuff you don't need lol, also id take steel 870 over aluminum mossberg any day any time it's a no brainer
