The shotgun in the Terminator 2 clip being used by Sarah Conner was a Remington 870 under folder, not a spaz 12, here's a link to close up pics of it. www.imfdb.org/wiki/File:T2JDRem870folder-6.jpg

Wow, Mind blown, as a big fan of the Spas 12 - I always included T2 in the list of movies it was in too!, thank you for correcting my error as well Honest Outlaw!, I also love the 870, its a fantastic , "run for ever, fire anything" Shotgun

Glad to see I'm not the only one who remembered it as a Spas 12. Must've been that folding stock as you don't often see that on an 870. Apparently, Arnold had a Spas 12 in the police department scene in T1: www.imfdb.org/wiki/Terminator_2:_Judgment_Day

My dad bought me a used 870 12 gauge when I was 13. It's still the only shotgun I own. I sent the serial number to Remington and asked for its history. It was first sold in 1974. On one of my last hunting trips, everyone else had expensive semi-autos and over-and-under shotguns. It was windy and dusty. I couldn't believe how many of them had problems. Some gummed up and jammed. Others just wouldn't fire. My 45 year old 870 worked just fine throughout the whole trip.

its even better when you go clean house at a sporting clays comp with one, against guys with guns worth 10s of thousands. I couldn't help but laugh. i made a point of taking the wingmaster and not the clay gun. it was the gun i used guiding duck hunters all my life. Never get rid of you gun, the new ones are shit.

im alive because of a Remington 870-12 ga in 1981 i got in a fight between to political parties in dominican republic it lasted 14 hours and i was stranded in a public bathroom with my protectee and 3 other security personnel i used in that incident over 120 shells and not a malfunction or stoppage and further more not a doubt in my mind ever that it was going to fail, in my book a super dependable platform that will always perform now a days i own a security firm in florida and have 8 of them you cant go wrong with a remington 870 be safe y’all

32 years ago I was issued an 870, departments are now phasing them out for AR15 rifles and have quit training rookies on them, which I think is a big mistake. A few years ago they started letting us keep our issued shotguns when we retired. I have my original issue plus I bought a new one with a longer, vent ribbed barrel, for hunting and recreation. I personally believe they are the absolute best "urban" assault and defense weapon made. You can shoot birdshot, buckshot, slugs, and beanbags all from the same weapon with no modification, and even the buttstock makes a heck of a club.

The 870 shot gun has been near and dear to my heart for well over 40 years I own 5 of them in different variations right now my first 870 was a TB trap grade Wingmaster I bought it 3rd hand and shot hundreds of rounds of trap with that gun then used it for hunting waterfowl, 2 3/4" shells only was never a problem. When I really got into trap shooting I was averaging 25 to 30K shells per year with my primary 16 yd and handy cap all shot with a special recoiless single shot 870 I cannot even come close to remembering how many Perazzis, Ljutics and Kohlers I beat with that gun, it was funny I would be in a big trap shoot in Florida or Arizona and the gun racks would be chock full of Perazzis etc. and there was always my old 350.00 870 Comp there sitting right in with the rest of them. That 870 comp would win me around 10K every year, enough to pay for all my expenses to compete including air travel. I kept a spare firing pin and a trigger group in my kit but never had to use a single repair component. The gun was very predictable also I would replace the firing pin every two years, I would replace the springs in the trigger group every two years and you would be looking at a new receiver after around 400K rounds because it would stretch! I for one have never had a failure with and 870 and it is the first shotgun I recommend to anybody looking for a very good high quality lifetime shotgun. I have hunted and competed with guns that cost 50 times what my Comp costs and I have always come back to my Remington!

do you mean like the littel Hidalgo County deputy that was patrolling down close to the BORDER in New Mexico and came up on a Van of Illegals. At first he just got out, back door swung open on the van and mexicans began to bail our and walk towards him. He kept saying "stay where you are stay where you are" and they kept saying NO HABLO INGLES. He reached in and got his shot gun, breeched it and suddenly they began to say, "DON'T SHOOT, DON'T SHOOT".

When I was a Marine security guard on USS Midway we had 870's with extended mag tubes, a bayonet mount that looked nothing like the one shown and it had the same sights as a Rem 700 rifle, front and back, the front sight broke easily as it had no protective ears. that was 1977

I recently inherited my father's 16g 870 Wingmaster. Slickest pump I've ever handled. I also have a Supermag that is great, fortunately produced before the FAG destroyed those companies mentioned. Not nearly as slick as the 16g but it's a great gun. I have a dangerous game slug for it that makes about 3500 ft/lb of energy, so that makes up for it.

My 870 20 gauge Wingmaster has brought me dove, quail, pheasant and ducks over the last 40 years. Some of them at distances I probably shouldn't have taken, but hey, modified barrel and all if you were on target with the right load, that 870 was deadly. Sadly, I can longer hunt but I still have that gun...

Never owned a firearm in my life. When in my early fifties, we had some problems in the neighborhood and I got to talking to a neighbor I'd never met before. He was a gun guy and I told him I wanted something for home defense. He recommended the 870, 12 gauge. I ended up buying a magpul tactical express model. He took me to the range and showed me the ins and outs. I've since acquired three handguns, an ar-15 and my cwp. But the 870 is my bedside weapon, loaded with #4 buck with a six round side saddle. Put in a steel follower, Wolff heavy duty mag spring, a qd sling mount mag cap. Most people don't believe this but I kept it loaded for months and months and when I finally unloaded it, the mag spring had lost all its tension. I know this is not supposed to happen, but it did. Maybe the spring was defective. Thus the change to the Wolff spring. It can make getting the last round loaded difficult.

Remington ruined the quality of its own guns... Long before being bought by freedom group. If anything, being purchased by Dupont in 1980 was their downfall... Because ...they were trying to keep from going bankrupt throughout the late 80's thru the 90's, and their quality control went to shit... As did the quality of materials they used (in an attempt to save money). If anything, Freedom Group (now named Remington Outdoor Company) saved the name... But I'm afraid it's reputation is passed the point of being saved.

Mine is a 1979 Wingmaster with matching barrel and receiver serial #'s that I got for $290 as a project for my "Shotgunsmithing" course at school, the barrel came pre-fitted with a poly-choke that I have yet to adjust. But have decided to leave the barrel original and use a "new" one to shorten/crown/ backbore/tru-choke because it's older than my grandfather's 870.

I have owned several 870s over the years, the design has a couple quirks but once known they are completely dependable. The trigger must be released between shots. And when loading the magazine the shells must be pushed into the magazine tube beyond the shell catch or the shell can jump back jamming the gun. Both of these issues are easy to avoid once known. My favorite repeating shotgun. I do wish it had a magazine cutoff similar to the Browning A5 though.

I use a 870 express for shooting trap. Having said that, the stock has been shortened to fit me. The comb has been lowered and rolled. It had the typical Remington trigger, very heavy. I softened that to around 4lbs. I found a used 32 inch TB trap barrel, full choke. It hits very hard. I won't use anything else. When I go to a trap meet you should see the confused looks it gets😳. That long barrel balances it nicely. Also I take the trigger group out every 3000 rounds and clean everything thourghly, grease the sales and slots. Now it runs so smooth it's. Great!😁

FWIW I have both an 870 and two Norinco clones (I'm in Canada where Norinco is sold under both its own brand and "Dominion Arms"). The early Norinco 870s were junky, but the newer ones are actually a better build than recent 870s. Like, for example, they still come with metal trigger guards while the new Remingtons have plastic ones. All the parts are 100% interchangeable. and best of all, due to a weird loophole in Canada's already weird gun laws, it's perfectly legal to own a (Norinco) 870 with a factory 8.5" or 12" barrel, with no special permit no NFA and no tax stamp!

I bought the second one because it was an 18" w/factory rifle sights (most arw 20"). Turned it into a patrol shotgun with syn stock and forend, mag tube extension, Elzetta light mount and a light, a good sling, and a short sidesaddle. Hard to go wrong with a good 870.

By the way, I had an Express for a bit but sold it. It would have cost too much to make it reliable and Wingmaster barrels would apparently not fit it. Its about as moddable as a Ruger 1022 but a LOT easier to do.

I have 3 870 shotguns, all are in 12 gauge. One is the 20" law enforcement model with the extended magazine tube, one is an express with the 28" hunting barrel and the last one is an old magnum 870 I picked up at a pawn shop for $150. I also have an old 1100 in 12 gauge that was my dad's. All of those shotguns are very utilitarian and work well.

Tyler Gamel Well, the 870 failed military reliability and durability tests, whole the Mossberg not only met - but exceeded every test. That says enough for me, really. The most use the 870's got in the Military, was in the Navy -- and they broke all the time, under non-combat conditions. The replacement for the broken 870's, were Mossberg 500's.

I love my Remington 870 12 gauge. The department that I work for also uses them as well. The 870’s work great, and are extremely reliable! I think the one that I have is called the Remington 870 Express, Tactical? It’s all black and came with 2 different barrels, and I think a plastic case as well. The shorter barrel is for home defense and has a door breach at the end of the barrel. The longer barrel is for either hunting, or clay pigeons I’m assuming? I plan on eventually, adding a few little things here and there on my 870, to make it have more tactical abilities.

Just bought my first 590 a month ago.....I'm not going to lie...I like the 590 better. Both are great guns no doubt. It's just the little things the 590 does better I think. Safety location is 1. Slide release another. Dual extractors. But it's all subjective and personal preference.

QC on newer Remington is dog shit I had to buy a 30 year old Remington to have a quality made one. I’ve put thousands of rounds through Mossberg 500/590 never had any trouble. I had a newer870 super mag none of the after market parts fit on it it made the gun crooked. I put the same parts on the old Police model fit like a glove! The only real significant difference between the 870 and 500 is the action is tighter on Remington and loser on Mossberg ..... other than the obvious bolt release and safety.....

@Booger Balls Hey dunno if you'll see this but i might be about to make my first shotgun purchase and am looking for something with somewhat consistent reliability, as well as being relatively cheap, at this point i'm really between the mossberg 500 and the 870 express, as both have a large amount of aftermarket parts so i can make whichever i buy, "tactiCOOL", as i do like my guns do be a bit showy with some added effectiveness as well. I hear many reviews of 870 outperforming mossbergs but they also seem to be quite old usually. Has in recent years the remington brand quality dropped, or has it stayed near where you get the bang for your buck.
@thebearheavy9582

@Booger Balls Thank you for the reply, and if i do have any further questions i'll know who to ask! It is disheartening to hear as i was trying to take advantage of a sale going on for black friday, but usually it seems there is a reason for sales too good to be true. I had heard rumors of the FG ruining the brand in recent years but no one with a direct statement. Luckily my search for which is more quality these days wasn't fruitless thanks to you and some forums, and i am now more informed of what years to look for and what brand to look for if i do shoot for newer models.

I used to own a Mossberg 500 I'd say about 8-10 years ago. It was my first shotgun and I mainly used it for deer hunting. It was ok but it did have an issue. The safety would work itself loose and while shooting it would go from fire to safe which was a pain while target shooting but really wasn't too much of an issue while hunting (Most of the time I only have had to shoot once to drop a deer). Mossberg may have fixed this issue in recent years but I am content with the 870 I have now. Just going to make a point of clarification I'm not the type of guy that goes around saying this gun is better than that gun (For example 1911's are better than Glocks). It depends on who is pulling the trigger. I will use myself as an example I shoot better with a 1911 than a Glock. Don't ask me why but that is how it is for me. The exception is HiPoints, avoid those they suck :P
