First trip of the season with my buddy Dustin and we head out on a beautiful day soon after a heap of rain. We put in some km's and get right off the beaten track looking for some quality fish.

Honestly, I really appreciate your videos. I just had two long days of fishing in the mountains (here in Colorado) and this video has me itching to get back out there to do it all again. Today I woke up saying to myself, "I could take a few days break from fishing". Not feeling that way now. It is awesome that videos like yours encourage people to get out there and get after it, we need more positive content like this, much more. Keep it coming.

Fishing in New Zealand has a bit more etiquette to it than fishing here in North America. Here you see guys lined up on the river fighting for space. Down there if someone is fishing a run you move on. You don’t see anyone because he has the etiquette to move on to another piece of water. There is a reason he is walking for an hour to get to these runs as well. Those fish feel pressure. He makes it look easy. Trust me it is challenging

@@brettsouthern8925 that’s not what I said at all. There is pressure down there. New Zealand has been a world class fishing destination since as long as I can remember. The pressure was there twenty years ago and I can only assume that with Covid. Everyone wants a piece of what new deal and has. Outdoor use has increased everywhere. Alex makes it look easy. In reality those are smart pressured fish who can be extremely difficult to catch.

It’s so cool to see how those NZ big trout have adapted to eating so many bugs, their noses get so long and thin for sipping things accurately, the big creek browns and bows over here in the US often get large and wide mouths with lots of big teeth for catching fish, and streamers are usually the only thing they’ll eat, trout are so cool!

Just now playing catch up with your videos. After my ordeal in September I did recover well enough to make the South Andros trip in mid November. The weather sucked[3 fronts in 6 days with 2 days of pounding rain and 2 other days of clouds and high wind] but still managed to catch bones every day. My strength and stamina not where I would've liked but, hey, I was just happy to be there[happy to be anywhere actually]. Cheers Bro!! Mike

Hi Alex are u well. I ask this cause I have left comments to a few of your latest vids. Usually I will receive some good vibes back. Most probably I think u may be busy. Any way . Loving it 😍 all until ....... to be continued.......... bummer. U party poopers........... such a unspoiled river. Such pockets of calm and mid running water. Shallow and deep pools. Rocks for fish to lie behind. Oh must not get carried away with the backdrop. The main characters. Such stunning fish. Especially the rainbow u both caught. The browns are more beautiful there colours . Nothing comes close. Keep up the best fly content out there.

Hey, Big fan of your videos and quality is only getting better. I’ve seen your videos on your leader set ups, but I’m curious what you do if you switch from a dry dropper rig to a two nymph rig? Do you put a tippet ring or loop in your butt suction? Or do you just fish the nymphs using the dry dropper leader set up? Maybe a Friday Filler topic? Sorry if I’ve missed a video explaining this. Thanks!

Nice video and nice fish. Hey, Alex, was Dusting ( ehm ) Justin... I mean Dustin using your vise when he documented tying the El Paso? Or is your vise a common one in NZ? That's a nice looking fly, by the way. I'll tie some up for Montana when I go there next Summer. Thanks for posting.
