Remove ALL Bloatware from any Android Smartphone without Root

For those that aren't able to watch more than 10 seconds of a video before commenting: this method will permanently remove (you won't be able to recover what you delete) bloatware from all smartphones except non-rooted Samsung phones. If you're on a Samsung handset, the files will only be disabled. Every other device supports complete removal.

Android is a fantastic mobile operating system. While for many years I considered iOS to be the clear leader, the two platforms are closer than ever before-equally impressive-both with its own strengths and weaknesses. One of the annoyances with Android is the fact that most new phones come with lots of bloatware that cannot be uninstalled. Today, I will show you how to remove any and all bloatware from any Android smartphone without root permissions.

So why isn't this video's title: Disable ALL Bloatware from any Android Smartphone without Root? Disabling is very different than removing, last time I checked.

Snazzy Labs if it was removed, it would not be able to be installed again with just a selection change in the program. Making it disappear from the screen doesn't remove it.

For God sake! If you love both system equal don't blame android. You said it yourself. It's the Americans carriers AND SAMSUNG. For instance my Sony Xperia Z5 don't have any or much bloatware. It's a bought phone and no carrier connected to the phone. The easiest way, BUY and pay the whole phone choose your decided carrier. I know it's not as simple as doing this in Sweden. Also HTC for instance is a quite clean system. I like Samsung's hardware but I think their software is more bloated than Sony and HTC.

I love how everyone just states that Bloatware is an Android problem and that apple doesn't bloat it's devices. I don't need a Health App, neither various of their sales programs that they hide behind names such as iBooks, Music, newsstand. I don't check stock market ever, and haven't facechated or used iMessage my entire life and I probably won't in the future. In the unlikely scenario that I had an iPhone, I would still use the google ecosystem, because it is available on all platforms and I use many different systems. So by my definition iCloud and almost every app that starts with an i is bloat.
@bryanmiller476
@bryanmiller476 7 лет назад
Oskar Kepke For bloat ware, typically it's carrier provided apps that come preinstalled and iPhones never come with anything from a carrier preinstalled Only apples apps are preinstalled and therefore every iPhone is the same as others from other carriers, also they don't have carrier branding on the outside of the phone either
@okidokayay
@okidokayay 7 лет назад
You can buy any android phone without a carrier branding or preinstalled carrier apps either. Simply don't buy it from a carrier. If what you said were true and the term bloatware refered only to those apps preinstalled by carriers, than by your definition for desktop computers there wouldn't be such a thing as bloatware, because they don't have carriers. Nevertheless we all know there actually is bloatware on desktop computers. Bloatware is a term for preinstalled software that isn't requiered to operate the device in its usual usage scenario and usually hard or almost impossible to remove. The reason for installing bloatware can be different. Sometimes its installed because the hardware is paid for doing so (McAffee on Desktops for example) has an economical interest in doing so, for example by differentiating himself from other manufacturers that use the same operating system (all of Samsungs crappy preinstalled apps) or by promoting its own ecosystem in which he hopes to generate more money (literally every second app on an iPhone) Sometimes it's only installed because the manufaturer assumes the customer wants it (facebook, twitter....) At the end of the day it all comes down to this: Bloatware is sofware that coul easily be installed after purchase by the users themselves, that is unnecessary to operate the device and hard to remove. Apple includes three types of bloatware: iBooks, iTunes, Podcasts, Home, TV, Wallet (which are all sales platforms in which apple hopes to acquiere more money or sell more devices. They could be easily made available via the App Store instead of being preinstalled, they are the most classical bloatware, unnecessary to the majority of users, looking at the sales figures of Apple TV and Watch compared to iPhone, you can safely assume that far less than 5% of iPhone users will be unsing either app.) These are on the one hand the most bloaty ones but on the other hand the ones that apple will most likely generate the most additional revenue with. Then there are the ones which are somewhere inbetween, they are arguably usueful to a wide audience, but there will also be a whole bunch of users using an alternative app and therefore not needing the one Apple provided or not using them at all: Health, Facetime, Maps, News, Stocks, iCloud drive, Find my phone, Find my friends, Tips. These are mainly there to promote Apples ecosystem, because that is what keeps up customer loyalty. The third category are apps that are useful to most users and won't be replaced by most but nevertheless could easily be acquiered through the app store instead of being preinstalled, like Contacts, Clock, Calendar etc.. Whilst I do agree that they should be preinstalled, as otherwise the phone would be more or less useless out of the box, I object to the fact that on Apple's iPhone as on many other smartphones they can not be deinstalled, which again makes them bloatware by my definition. Power users often rely on alternatives, as the preinstaled ones often offer limited functionality.
@bryanmiller476
@bryanmiller476 7 лет назад
Shouldn't have to buy your android phone outright and not from a carrier just so it doesn't come with the carrier bloat ware That means paying lots more money for the phone and that's not how majority of smartphone buyers get them, they generally do go buy from a carrier Hence the huge lines at stores during iPhone launch days
@okidokayay
@okidokayay 7 лет назад
I don't know about the USA (which I'm assuming you're talking about) but where I live in Germany you almost never save when buying from carriers. Most people that do so just like a fixed monthly price or basically can not afford to pay the phone upfront. Anyway my remarks were about the fact that apple does have bloatware, not that android phones don't or have less. It's fortunate for Apple and their customers that their market postition in the USA is strong enough to unlike the other manufacturers decide themselves about whichever bloatware to preinstall and not have the carriers grip on that but that doesn't change the fact that an app, which has the sole purpose of connecting to another gadget like the Apple TV, that less than 5% of their customers actually posess can not be called anything but bloatware.

Dude, thanks, that is exactly what i needed, I was looking for that solution so such a long time, you helped me a lot! I needed a way to totally disable/remove bluetooth on Huawei P8 Lite - I connect it by USB to my car by Android Auto to have a navi on my display (and only for that), but it automaticly turns bluetooth ON which causes me unable to connect second phone by BT to headset which I use for calling. This way after disabling Bluetooth I can have two phones connected to car - one by USB cable for navi and second by BT for calling. Great!

I knew it was bs when he said "without root" Obviously not a Linux or Unix user if you don't have root access on ANY Linux/Unix (Android is a Linux distro) distro, you cannot make kernel level changes. Plain and simple, this includes moving apps to an SD card and still having them perform the same way, or at all. Most apps that claim to do this are just making a file structure mirror, which actually takes up more space. Also you do not need ADB to disable Apps. You can do this from inside the Android OS. Running or not.

Good guide, but the term "remove" with regard to bloatware isn"t quite accurate. The preinstalled system apps (bloatware) are actually being disabled via adb shell, not removed from the device. Those apps are still fully intact on the /system, /product, /oem or /vendor partitions. The only way to fully remove them is by superuser access over the Android OS, or by installing a custom recovery such as TWRP, mounting the /system partition as R/W (or other partitions in which preinstalled apps are present), and using recovery"s native file management interface to individually remove the unwanted apps.

"Processing changes to: Error: java.lang.SecurityException: Neither user 2000 nor current process has android.permission.MANAGE_USERS"/. Is there another adb-setup version (V1.43) that will allow a full read of the my HTC 10 packages? Is the HTC 10 HtcESPLauncher.apk blocking the scan for packages, if so how do I unblock it? Or am I doing something else wrong?

Hey, thanks for the instructions for doing this, I've been looking for something like this for a while. I just had a little issue, the debloated app doesnt seem to recognize my phone when plugging it in, even though debugging mode is on. Im running this with a Samsung S7 and a W10 PC. Do you know what could I do to try this again? Thanks btw!

Hi, Snazzy! Several years ago I followed your instructions and it worked like a charm on my Galaxy Note 3. Today, the same instructions don't work on my Galaxy S8. I realized that this video is quite old: Sep 23, 2015. Would you be kind to update the instructions and help me stay Snazzy forever?! Thanks, bro!

If only I had read the comments, "it won't work with windows 10". I installed everything, and now opened the debloater, but it doesn't recognize my phone, and so it doesn't allow me to click on "read all packages" :(

I disconnected the Phone and re-enabled USB debugging and somehow it came up this time. Thanks. There were not many bloatware apps on my BOOST S4, some you could actually delete, and the ones I had disabled in application manager from the phone were already disabled, so maybe people will have better luck on other carriers.

Hi there, I got windows 7 and got the same problem. I start my phone (Samsung S6 Edge, with actual software, Android Marshmellow), swich on developer functions and enable debugging. I installed adb and debloater on my PC. Start the debloater as an administrator and get not connected to my cell phone. Do you have an idea, what it could be?
@benjyking500
@benjyking500 8 лет назад
+Bernd Voller I was able to get it to work. But only after disconnecting the phone from the computer, closing the de-bloated, and turning off USB debugging on the phone. After that I opened the de-bloater, connected the phone to the computer via USB, and turned on USB debugging in developer options. Once you turn on that feature, there should be a warning pop up on the phone you have to accept. Keep in mind I'm working with a S4, so might be different. Good luck

+techdude6693 +wake. you guys need to have your phones unlocked and wait until a dialog box (on the phone) opens up asking whether or not to authorize the computer to make changes. Same thing happened to me. If it doesn't open up, try switching the port you're using and restarting the debloater program. It might take a minute to pop up so be patient

I know what you mean. I have the same feeling with my Desktop computer. It older, but still riding strong. Exept that it's Nvidia card always was a piece of abdomination. So much even that I didn't wanted to spend money to replace it, because I'm salty there wasn't a better card in it in the first place and won't pay any more. Everytime the GPU hangs I swear I could bump my fist through the walls out of agony. Especially when it does so on the worst possible times and with a cringing sound of crashing. That's why I stopped gaming at night. Because I could scream the entire neighbourhood out of bed if that piece of crap hangs again.

+Snazzy Labs "Re-enable"is a term used after disabling something, not removing it... However.. I doubt you'll find a huge (lol.. If any) performance boost. The best I could think of is merely not even a 1% increase in performance. The OS is built around being under constant pressure (Duh...) while still maintaining performance.. NOW.. I'm not saying it'll be as fast as it was when you first started it, but it'll probably lag as much as anyone elses if used in the same way. These "performance tips" are as true as the ones where they claim you SAVE battery from removing apps from the cache memory (Lol, "Phone Boosters")... Surely, if you have some kind of _VIRUS_, you'll find these increases as "boosting", but yeah.. If you say so :)

For fun I thought I'd try with my 7th Gen (unrootable) Amazon Fire 7, which I'd previously used an XDA-Developers tool on to disable some of the bloatware, but it does leave a bit still. This new tool actually re-enabled some of the previously disabled bloatware and did nothing to the stuff I was trying to hide :-( I had to run the XDA tool again. Ah well, it was worth a try!

I've yet to test the actual value of the content, but the format and presentation is really clever...especially since this vid is a couple of years old already.
