Perfect for images in vertical mode. The backing fill does not apply all the time, especially if I want to zoom the image. This trick worked great and now I can save the settings by Grabbing a still. Thanks for the video

This was So helpful! I made a lower thirds in After Effects and got as far as the Alpha Output in the color tab (and it didn't work). Now I know that I need to use the qualifier as well.

You could also go to clip inspector, overlay tab, and then select subtract. It worked for me for a white text with a black background

I find the fusion option way more easier and functional. Maybe I did something wrong, but I wasn't able to remove the black in the final render using the color version.

I have a problem, my lower third has substantial black in it and both options that you showed are either taking away that black completely off of it or if adjusted there is still noise... do you have other solutions?

For me, I've found the best way to eliminate problems like this is to use another program such as Affinity Designer or Affinity Photo in which I produce an overlay and cut the background out and save it as a .png file then import the .png onto my top track. Because I removed the background in the .png file it is transparent on my video and I've never had an issue with it. I can use any kinds of movement I want with it. The only thing I would not know how to do would be to add the moving highlights you have on your lower thirds.

Nice tut. For everyone asking about how to make the black transparent, just add a luma keyer in the setup and you are good to go....
