Excellent tutorial! This is exactly what I was looking for. Subscribed! Finding anyone to service this model is nuts, just the service call is almost $200, no thanks! Thanks and keep them coming!
Thank you for posting this video. We had recently just got the quadra fire and i was worried because I had heard a noise and found it was coming from our fan. You were extremely clear on instructions and I enjoyed watching!
Thank you very much for this video. It will help many people. I followed your procedure step by step and everything went smoothly. However, during the rotation of the central rod I heard a friction. Despite a deep cleaning, he was always present. So I decided to lubricate the parts where there is friction with lithium-silicone grease spray. I reassembled everything. My stove is second hand. I have it for 3 years and it has always been noisy. It's over now. He has never been so silent. Thanks again !
Dawne, Thanks so much!!! I removed the blower and used my air compressor to clean the cage motors through the openings. The stubborn stuff on the blades I used a paint brush like you said. The cage motors would not spin freely, so I used a little WD-40 on the bearing, and they spin fine now. They are so quite now, I did not even know they kicked on!!! Stove is 13 years old, and they were never cleaned.
Good to see you address this. I've had my Classic Bay for 14 years & I had to replace the convection blower after three years. The lube in the sealed shaft bearings had dried out and made noise. I took the opportunity to dissect the old blower assembly & discovered that I could access the sealed bearings. They look like the bearings on my inline skates, & I have re-lubed them, so why not these? So , on the new blower assembly I tear it down every two years and push a little bit of hi-temp brake grease through a very small hole that I put in the bearing shield. I used a Dremel tool & a small burr to make the hole. This blower is still going strong eleven years later.
thank you. helped me figure out how to clean my quadrafire 7 y.o. insert. design has change through the years and squirrel cage is no longer removable (or at least i couldn't remove it) but still helpful. i used brushes and compressed air to scrub and blow out dust build up in the cages. got them 90% clean. happy with that.
Thanks Dawne, this video was extremely helpful. Incase you don't know there are two bearings behind the housing that the squire cages go into. They are probably no good and need to be replaced because they are sealed. This could be one reason for your noise problem.
Seems I've come upon this video a year late. Great Video, however. I had a convection blower that would whistle and grind. It was I believe to a better part beyond saving and had to front $329.00 for a new one. To be fair my Classic Bay had been used by three families and still had the original Blower on it, which looked quite a bit different and much more beaten up than the one in this video. The newer version I bought is identical to what you have here in the video. I've had the new blower for a year and a half and it's already making sounds. What I've found as well that may help others who are having difficulties with the blower. Is sometimes it's as simple as getting a can of "Canned Air" from Walmart for about $5 and blowing the dust and buildup out. I'll continue that process till it's no longer helping me and then I believe I'll pull it apart and apply your method of deep cleaning. You got the right stuff, thanks for the video! For anyone looking for Canned Air it can be found in the electronics department near laptops/CDs/Headsets.
Great video Dawne! You have inspired me to attempt this cleaning on my own. My stove has a high pitched whistle and as far as I know the blower has never been cleaned.
Hi Dawn. I've watched your video a few times and I think I'm ready to clean the convection blower !!! Last year(when I fisrt moved in), I had to change the thermo couple(the wood stove stopped working after only a month of use.. Seems no one could come and fix it.) and some snap disks and the pellet stove was back on track ... I also cleaned the chimney(if you can call it that). I think it hadn't been maintained AT ALL. I read that you were going to make another video about maintenance & trouble shooting... When do you think you'll have time to make that cause I sure could use it ;) Anyways, thanks a lot from a fellow DIY wood pellet user from Québec/Canada, where it sure get cold a whole lot in winter
