This is a common problem and skin fail of mine. I have really dry skin, so it doesn't take much for the skin around my nose, chin and mouth area to start peeling and flaking - so nasty!
I usually have dead skin just hanging off my face and as an Australian Makeup Artists, it's not a good look for me, especially when I have acne too. Good Skincare and being gentle on my dry skin type is key.
The before is a real picture of my skin. I walked my dogs in the sun, had a hot shower and then the next morning I woke up and looked like a snake shedding its skin.
I've made so many mistakes dealing with this problem, but along the way I got better at it and have found products and techniques that help my makeup application look flawless and go on seamless.

I think the key is to exfoliate 2x a week it helps smooth out the dry patches and I use a face oil mix of jojoba oil, rose-hip oil, and licorice root and drop a couple drops in my moisturizer. Baby soft skin is the result!

Me too😢 I scrub my face... use all types of lotions and washes... my skin is so sensitive so even lotions make it worse. I tried coconut oil.. raw shea butter.. nothing works.

thank you!! I feel like dry skin is overlooked by so many makeup artists. I have really dry skin and had a horror experience at sephora where the makeup artist did everything you just said NOT to do lol. I even told her I had super dry skin before we started and when I looked in the mirror after she was done, I didn't recognise myself... my face was a cakey, powdery dry mess. so yeah, thank you again for these amazing tips :)

I feel like this is so true I'm training to be a makeup artist and currently in college for it and they only tell us about oily and normal skin thats it, I personally have flaky dry ezcema prone skin which is a constant struggle wish people would have better training in it

did you not read what I said lol? my skin isn't producing oil. I'M putting (grapeseed, rose hip etc) oil on my face because my skin isn't producing enough. I drink a shit ton of water everyday and my pee is clear so I'm pretty sure I'm hydrated. But thanks for your opinion i guess

I needed this so bad! The past 3 days I've had peeling skin half way through the day and my skin around my nose and mouth is so dry it feels like I'm going to crack when I smile. I've certainly increased my water intake since its now getting colder in my neck of the woods. Hopefully my skin will call down soon.

so i used a medicine to try to make my dark spots go away but it made my skin really red, dry, and flaky. only then i realized that the medicine was way too strong and that i was allergic to it too. i'll definitely be trying this out!

Thank you, I’m going to try this. I’ve been battling suuuper dry skin on the sides of my mouth, and now in the area where my smile line are. I’ve admittedly been scrubbing my face extra hard with my face brush, and it absolutely is not working. I always use a translucent powder to set my makeup, but I always use a dry brush. I’m definitely going to try the damp sponge. Thank you so much!
