I will try to remove a lot of old fungus in my Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 1:2 f=5cm for Contax.
The front lens was in a really shape and there only little to do, but the back lens group turn out to be really good, much better than I expected to be.
I first try with some lighter fluid, but it could not remove the fungus, then I try with Hydrogen Peroxide 3% and then the magic happen, all the fungus simply is gone away.
I had a big problem when I try to unscrew the front name ring, because there was a little set screw that was glued with a strong glue, so I simply drill it out the set screw with a 0,9mm drill bit

Thanks for sharing. I noticed this video is not under the Carl Zeiss playlist.

Very good, the lens elements are cemented with balsam, do not use a hair dryer to dry the aperture blades after cleaning....like I did ! Ot you will get separation ;-) Cheers.

Do you know of any way to clean in between the cemented lens elements? I have sonnar 50mm 1.5 that appears to have ink in between the front element and I have no idea of how to go about cleaning it.

Thanks for sharing this video. Does the Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 1:1,5 f=5cm for Contax has the same build scheme? Thanks in advance for the answer.

Nowadays they replace the rings for a felt ring to improve the weather resistance

Amazing Video. I have the same lens only for M39 Leica Mount. But i have a problem the aperture does not match the range. the numbers are slightly offset. it is not possible to set the aperture precisely. can the problem be fixed?

Loving the content of your channel. I tried some 2 year expired hidrogenperoxid in a Canon Fd 50mm 1.4 Ssc, and after applying to the front element, it turned out very hazy and it wont't clean out. Have you experienced this or how to resolve it?.

Hi! Would this be the same process for the Contax zeiss opton sonnar 50mm 1.5?

Hello , can i ask : is hydrogenperoxid 3% good and strong enough for cleaning fungus on the lenses ? Some say to use ammonia hydroxide , but i think that is too dangerous for the health and too agressive . Thank you .

Hello Erwin, I don't know about the Ammonia Hydroxide because I have not try to use it yet, but I have used Hydrogen Peroxide 3% to remove Fungus in many, many lenses and I get always surpriced how good it works without damage the lens element coating. When cleaning a lens with Hydrogen Peroxide 3% on a good quality lens wipe, you will ONLY need a very light pressure, to remove more or less of the Fungus and sometimes you will need to do a second time to get the rest of the Fungus off. This is just my own experience, but I hope it can help you and other people

@@mikeno62 Hello . I will try your hydrogen peroxide 3% . I have seen about ammonium hydroxide (sorry , ammonia hydroxide was the wrong term) on the channel : " retro foto house" , episode : "helios 44-2 fungus cleaning tutorial" , and i am surprised how the person uses this , because when i open my bottle of ammonia 25% that i bought , which is the same as ammonium hydroxide (ammonia diluted with water) , then i can almost not breathe from the fumes coming out . I learn from your video's . If ever you find a Soviet Kaleinar-3 lens 150mm , then i would appreciate the video . They are very big and much fun to do . Regards , Erwin .

Not that I'll ever get this lens or do this but watched it all and enjoyed every second of it. BTW is this almost the same for Zeiss 50mm F/1.5 Sonnar T Opton Chrome Lens for Contax Rangefinder or those have different configuration?Thanks man.

Oh... one more question. I see there is no focusing ring on this lens. So is that focusing mechanism an integrated part of the camera body? And this may make it not suitable for adaption to mirrorless? Or am I wrong and there is a solution.

@@samsen3965 Kipon makes contax RF to fuji X and sony E adapters, but those are nearly 400 USD. The other way I know of is contax RF to Leica M, and then Leica M to whatever mount you need. I'll probably stick a helicoid to a body cap and fit the lens to the helicoid myself, but if I could afford one of those Kipon adapters I'd definitely go that route. Those are gorgeous.

Hi Mikeno62, is it possible to separate cemented lenses somehow? Regards
@mikeno62
@mikeno62 5 лет назад
I would guess it should be possible, but I have not try that yet, but I will try it with an old lens sooner and make a video about it.

@@mikeno62in any case, even after removed damaged cement, watching this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oWtgGuPyDwA.html is clear that re-cementing is not possible without required equipment
@JeffDvrx
@JeffDvrx 2 года назад
@@antares2112L you can make your own tools for that, actually. Just set a laser on top pointing straight down and the lens itself on some ball bearings, then be careful to set everything so that the laser points exactly through the middle of the ball bearings hole. Easier said than done, but it can in fact be done

Hi. What is the purpose of the 3 thin rings exactly? Thanks.
@mikeno62

I would guess its the way they make the micro adjustment of the lens, so the focus is correct.
