Did you just not put the wire in or did you buy a kit that eliminates it ?

You had me nervous about that retaining wire. Took me about 3 minutes to take out and about 4 to put back in using a small flathead screwdriver and a pair of needle nose pliers. Great tutorial.

Good video, I have to do my clutch on my 07 Royal Star tour deluxe, I'm buying the same clutch. Everyone says the Barnett makes a big difference so I'm gonna give it a try. I'm waiting until this fall when it gets colder and I won't be riding at all or not much. I plan to use this video as a reference. Nice job!

I went with the stronger springs because I pull a trailer and ride double with the wife. You will notice the clutch has more resistance. If I were doing it without the need to pull the trailer, I'd use the stock springs and save the effort on the clutch hand. Just food for thought.

@@KevinDoglio Yeah, I'm not planning on pulling a trailer and usually ride alone.

Good video mate, it might have been worth soaking the clutch plates in oil over night. I did a similar video on my FJr. I love the clicking sound at the end with the Allen key. Lol Nice job.

Thanks. I used to have an FJR. Fun machine!

Def should soak the friction plates and sand the metal plates to rough them up....after watching this video i ordered a kit that deletes the retaining wire and misc parts and uses an extra Clutch disc and a stronger spring. I didn't want to mess with that wire!

IDK if after 3 years you will still be able to see tr his reply but I need to do this job and wondered if you would remember what kit you got maybe point me where to get it Thanks

So is there a (Newer) barnett clutch part number which eliminates the (Spring)?

I have a 09 royal star tour deluxe 1300. Clutch lever just went out. I'm trying to figure out what exactly the problem is. And if it's a simple fix or if i need to take it to a shop. It just got easier to pull then boom can't change gears. Had to pull over and it cut off at a low speed.
@KevinDoglio
@KevinDoglio 2 года назад
Could be a problem with the hydraulics since it's oil actuated. Look for leaks. If there are no obvious leaks, I'd say it's not a simple fix. If you don't normally do your own wrenching, probably a shop job. If you are handy, take her apart and see what's up.
@HerbalistAce
@HerbalistAce 2 года назад
@@KevinDoglio haven't had to take her apart. Only put 1500 miles on her since i got it. Not sure how to check the clutch. I assume it's located in the same spot on my bike? I gotta fix it so i can sell it.
@KevinDoglio
@KevinDoglio 2 года назад
@@HerbalistAce I imagine the clutch is in the same place. Once you pull the cover, you should be able to pull the clutch lever and see what's (not) happening. But, don't take my word. Do a little more digging on your engine. Good luck!

should soak the friction plates for 24 or 48 hours, After a year and half how's the clutch still working out

My thoughr were the barnett plate negates the need for wire or spring????

No, I don't think so. But it's really no big deal to replace it.

I got a bad sound this morning after my new used '99 venture turned over three times and then sounded like it siezed up. It was a sickening sound like something had already broke, sending the rod into something and stopping the turn. But why on startup, and no warning? I'm hoping someone recognizes this; I just got it without warranty and don't have the bux to fix major problems.

Sounds like it hydro locked. I believe that's from gas leaking into the cylinders when the bike is not being used. Not turning the gas off, and poorly seating float needles. Change oil because it probably has gas in it now, and take out spark plugs and turn over to push gas out of plug holes. I'd let it sit for a few days to let cylinders to dry out. Also, get carbs fixed.

Did the Yamabond leak at all? I am doing my second clutch and used a gasket last time and this time. I am nervous about any kind of RTV sealant.
@KevinDoglio
@KevinDoglio 3 года назад
No, I still ride the bike and it hasn't leaked a drop. As a matter of fact, I used the Yamabond on my lawn mower engine and didn't leak either.

I just installed the same parts and there is a small laser etched triangle on the front of the pressure plate. That is supposed to line up with the punch mark(that is what it is called in the service manual) on the clutch boss (that is what Yamaha parts manual describes, it is the inner hub that supports the pressure plate). I had a similar problem as you described and spoke with Barnett tech and instructed me on the proper alignment. I informed him that it was not identified on the installation instructions, He was going to look into that. I was unable to get the new retaining wire installed perfectly. The one end stood up a little and was above the groove. I did not have another wire with me so I tried it and everything is working fine. The Barnett tech said he spoke with the top Yamaha clutch engineer on this type of clutch and that person said the wire really doesn't need to be there. It rwill run without it. I am still trying to figure why it was put in.

You must always get the barren clutch spring plate back in flush to the first clutch. It tells you this on the paperwork inside, you may need to rotate up three times so to seat in properly. Also, remove the spring if doing the clutches as well and do not reinstall. Soak clutch’s for at least 4 hrs in a quart of engine oil before installing. Most recommend soaking overnight. I would highly recommend a gasket only, not gasket goop. Just my humble opinion.Maybe someone will read this and get help.
