Removing a Truck Cab By Yourself (Part 1 of 2) | 1970 Chevy C10

Working on your truck by yourself isn't always hard - until it needs to come all the way apart. I don't have a lift so my best option to remove the cab required me to build the tools I need (well, improve the tools I have to fit the job I need to get done).

Cart: 54”Lx40”WX 24” tall w casters. Add 2 5/8” to the height to or rear 4x4s. Or maybe mount the back 2x8 2&5/8” higher than the front. The cab mounts are higher on the back end. If you don’t the cab will tilt back on the cart. Watch the video when he pulls the cab and you’ll see. Cab Lift: 63 1/2”L X 8” (2x8)H, 13 1/2” for pivots (2x4), braces are 5 3/8”, 6 1/2-7” long bolt for pivot, 5/8” drill for pivot hole, Material: 1-8’ 4x4, 4- 8’ 2x8, 2- 8’ 2x4”, 4- 6” swivel casters with locks (easier to roll with all being swivel)

Thanks so much for this video! Pulled the cab on my ‘67 C10. Cab gantry was ingenious and worked perfectly. 👌

I built this years ago on your recommendation and it has been used for various vehicles to include even a full sized 1959 Ford. It sure beats the heck out of the expense and storage of bigger cranes and such. Thanks for the idea and video.

This is a great solution for those of us without an overhead hoist of 2 post lift. Thanks for putting it out there.

Thanks a ton for this video! I was losing my mind trying to figure out how to pull the cab off my S10 project. I built the lifting frame today and will be trying it out tomorrow. Awesome work!

You know to jack up an engine hoist from the low (storage) position just loosen the release screw and pick up on the arm. Saves about 5 minutes of Jacking

looking good paul I made one for my hoist the same as yours but with 2x4's and had zero issues, one suggestion id make is if you are going to be moving your cab around or moving it outside I would extend the front casters so they stick out farther than the firewall since the firewall side of the cab is the heaviest you will notice once you start lifting it with the hoist it will tilt forward some. I also made it so I could bolt my cab down to my stand the same way it is to the frame using my rubber mounts just as an extra safety measure to keep it from tipping over or falling off, likely over kill but better safe than sorry. keep up the good work I look forward to seeing more videos mine is currently a bare frame

Awesome thanks for the tips. I was going to make it where I could bolt it in but since all the cab supports need to be replaced I figured it would do more hindering than helping. The cart is plenty long so I’ll make sure to place the cab as far back on it as I can to prevent tipping. 👍🏼 thanks for looking out. I appreciate it.

I was wondering what the shear factor of the wood screws are that hold your pivot point to the picker. If you used wood glue ( I’m not sure) it might help more than just a few screws.it might be sad if it failed and damaged the cab. It’s looking good though! Keep up the good work!

We’re going to find out one way or another. I’ll start by lifting it a few inches first and see what happens. It’s a concern that’s on the radar

Just found this video, great by the way, did you brace the cab for future cab work or for removal. I'm starting the hoist today. Thanks

this is awesome, exactly what i need to make… do you think it would lift the cab with the front end on or should i remove it…???
@paulkc10
@paulkc10 2 года назад
I’m always thinking of worst case scenario. So it’s easy enough to remove the front end and minimize the chance of a failure
