i am not a handyman by any stretch imagination.have hard time changing lightbulb.been have issues other people that have keys come into my home.tried fix other ways this was the next idea.thanks video couldn't do this without this video or a similar vid.not easy for someone like me to do this by self.really hard to line up long screws.spent like 5 hours trying to change locks couldn't complete job.this video was helpful.i brought over a handyman friend he got it done in minutes
for those who care about the looks : choose a knob with a bigger rosette (the round metal part that covers the hole in the door) than the one that you remove to avoid exposing the round scratches the previous knob inevitably leaves like you can see in this very helpful video tutorial. sometimes rosettes can be sold separately.
Thanks for the video. I have one that the striker is stuck and wouldn't release by turning the knob. Know I know this is a relatively easy project and don't need to hire someone. Will post how the job goes. Again, thanks for the tutorial.
Apparently my door knob doesn't have 2 sides that turn with one another and the lock side is on the reverse of example shown on the video. The other side is apparently broken. That would explain why when i installed it, both sides locked up. Old broken door knob seems to missing some of its components.
I have put 3 different locks on my door and the same person is still getting in my apt help help. I have called police everything how are they still getting in and what can I do to stop them I know what I would like to do but that would land me in jail so how can I stop them
diane Li as i’m sitting here trying to replace the door knob from my room door to the one in my closet because that one has a lock but the other doesn’t 💀💀
I crossed my fingers, hoping there would be no exceptions to changing out the locks/knobs, and voila', it was simple and quick. ALL THANKS TO YOUR DETAILED VIDEO!!!! As suggested, I read the directions but ignored them 'cuz I couldn't figure out what the heck it was talking about - measuring, some other appliance, and good grief!! 😖
I can't put that piece 6:08 into my door. The door hole is too small, any suggestions? Should I get a rubber mallet and start pounding till it gets stuck in there?
Thanks very helpful, I asked my dad for a week to put a lock on my door . Of course never got done🤦🏾♀️ did it myself less then 20 min!! Very simple 🔐 thanks to you
Ah damn! Nothing but problems!!! Hot damn SOB knob wouldn’t line up with old hole. Tried cutting door frame and frucked it up. Cut myself and now the crap balls door won’t even close. Hot damn!! Old knob now won’t fit. Hot damn!!
now I can go ahead and change the knob in my bedroom, with a knob that has a key on one side. I only find that the two screws on the knob base are hard to catch with a screw driver. Thanks great video really.
Great video. I am about to go do it. I remember how I had to pay the carpenter to put each lock on each door. I even called him years later when a lock went bad. No more though. You made this look soooo easy. I know I can do it too. Thanks.
How about you stop hating on young people, that is a stereotype. It is unfortunate that you had to fix the knob, but there is no need to be rude, I know plenty of people my age, including myself, who fix everything in their house.
For anyone having an issue with their door latch or deadbolt, property maintenance or DYiers, there is a new solution that replaces Glue, Sticks, Puddy, or that ugly metal sleeve that goes over your door. ReSecure Latch sits INSIDE the door bore hole, alongside the latch, and the supplied screws thread into it. Works with many of the top brands like Kwikset, Defiant, Yale, and others. After watching the many videos Funny Carpenter has on DYi repairs, come check out how it works. Hopefully one day to have in inside box stores like Depot and Lowes.
some doorknobs cover the screws with a little cover... but if you look, you'll find a little notch in it where you can stick a fork or knife tip and pop it off. The screws are under the cover.
I was presented with a situation that requires me to replace the outside door knobs. I had a husband who was so very handy. I have never replaced a door knob and now after watching this video, I feel that I can do it myself. Thank you for the small hints that make all the difference.
Unfortunately the door knobs in Thailand ( made in China of course) aren’t as easy to put in. The hardware mechanics is a bit different. Interesting how hardware & electronics can be different in different parts of the world.
This video was very good. I saw another one but this was better. Though I don't like that knob where you can't open at all from outside . If you have a toddler grandchild like mine that for some reason likes to turn the knob, before closing the door from outside locking everyone out how are you going to get in? Nope must have a knob that uses a key too.
It was a different door my sister asked me to change the door so I gave it a try thinking I know what I was doing couldn’t get it back as it used to look I only got one screw and it’s barely hanging on LOL I was getting irritated because I couldn’t get the other screw in so I left it and just put a chair next to the door We live in a apartment so hopefully no one you know 😐👀
I have a knob that doesn't come off. According to a guy I hired for something else, he said that knob needed a tool that pushes in a notch on 2 sides of the door knob's neck (if that's the right word). I haven't found that tool. Is there a substitute for that tool?
When you took the first door knob off there was a metal ring left in there before you started on the new one - Do you know what that is? I am replacing an old knob and when I removed it it also had that and it was super kinked up and breaking. The new knob doesn't have that part.
Has anyone in the US ever thought that if it burns on the inside of a door with a knob, it is impossible to open the door because the skin `melts` off the hand!
I loved the pace of this video and the close ups . You are a good teacher. Thank you for this video. Now i have the confidence to change our door knob. We were a little overwhelmed an hour ago.
You ever hunt shark? Not fishin'. I'm talking about sharkin'...you go inside the cage? Cage goes in the water? You go in the water? Shark's in the water...our shark...Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies...farewell and adieu to you ladies of Spain...
I have two problems with this. First lining up the screws is nearly impossible. Second, this is a ridiculous angle to try and fit in a screwdriver. In my case it is a Kwikset Tylo Polished brass Keyed Entry Door Knob - Lowes Item # 60376 Model # 690T 3 CP
Thank you!!! My landlord said he fixed my doorknob... on the same day I got locked in my room for half a day and almost had to pee in a water bottle lol. (The hinges have some sort of casing...?? The pins weren't exposed at all so there was no way I could knock them out... otherwise I'd not have been trapped.)
Thanks...needed a quick refresher because I haven't done this in over a decade. Now I can enter my home through the door in the garage again!! During the interim I had to locate the keys to my front door because it's never used lol.
I have the same doorknobs that I'm trying to replace with new ones. I bought a banana handle and regular round handle at Menards. The doorknobs were for bath and bedroom with the lock as shown on your video. The ones from Menards had instructions for a key doorknob and the item numbers were different so I returned them. Do you have a brand name for the doorknobs you're using. I'm trying not to put in all new hardware since I'm a novice at trying this.
Well I thought I was doing mine right all along, when I had to come here (RU-vid) looking for assistance. My bathroom door handles won't come off from the door. I've pulled, I've twisted and pulled, I can't get them loose! I guess I have to wait for the Hubs to come home, to pull them apart!??! I guess I just don't have enough strength to break them apart from the door. Booooo!
WOW! Excellent video and instructions. Clear and complete and hopefully making me successful upon my first try to change a door knob. Pray for me..lol THANK so much
I was planning on doing this since my door doesn't lock, but I was wondering would it be able to guarantee a lockable door??? I'm no expert and was wondering if the bolt could also be the problem or etc.?
Great Installing Door Knobs for Dummies. Patient and clear presentation. Installing is not hard, but there is a sequence to follow which the BackYardMech makes clear.
