You didn't only educate me about how to fix my problem, but you also managed to entertain me. Awesome vid :]

Chip No3 is dead on mine... I just can wait to get it fixed, Ive got mine 2 days ago for like 50 US dlls and I Still cant believe the richness of the sounds , I am son in love with it, It complements perfect with NI Massive and my Yamaha Cs6-X , all I need now is time to play arround with them..

Oh! so it's because of the plastic? So I don't need to buy new chips??

The hardest part of this is unsoldering the damn chip, and all you say is, "So, we have the voce chip is out..." as if it just falls out!

Spend the $280 USD for a Hakko FR-301, and desoldering stuff will be a trivial task. I wish I'd bought a desoldering gun 15 years ago; the hassle from desoldering in just ONE task is worth the $280. It's a joy to use.

Further to this, it is wise to reflow the solder joints on all of the components on the chips, after you have totally removed the coating, and before you return the voice chips to the board. Most of the time the IC's fail because of cracked and less than ideal joints, due to the heating and cooling cycles involved when the coating is still intact.

@@andyjackson3891 Most of the chips I've recently restored required a total desolder, cleaning underneath and between the legs and soldering them back on, they would glitch otherwise.

@@theeltea every comment on this small thread of replies has been just as helpful as the video, even more in ways. That being said, I'm def not as afraid to try this now, and when I get a little extra moolah, I think it's worth the extra work to do it right and instead of spend about the same (as far as I remember) amount on full set of brand new analog renaissance chips when I just can get something that takes the most frustrating part of desoldering and therefore doing most any repair not only easier, and like it was mentioned "a joy to use" but Heck, but just better and more efficiently. I swear, I'm a dang biomed but I still at this point am at least daunted by harder desolderimg tasks cause I don't want to mess up the components in whatever medical device. Well, I obviously would want the same quality out of my juno, and any other electronic monstrosity of old and epic fun that I have too many of. I think its funny how some people look at keyboards as junk, as if having too many in being a hoarder. Um no, when I get a chance to buy a juno 106 for around 300 bucks on Facebook marketplace and actually have the funds, well I'd be the doofus of the century not to grab that, even if just to refurbish and flip Reasonably to an honest musician if I even wanted to flip. The possible hoarder part of the equation comes in from not selling a single damn thing. However, I know I will not regret this.. ✌ and 💘

I have one module in my MKS-30 that did the same thing. I pulled it, cleaned it, it worked for a short time, then went back to being flaky.

Q: Do you need a temperature controlled soldering iron for this type of job, or would a 30 watt one be 'perfectly fine'?

Know if this process could work with one of the MC-5534A wave generator chips?

It won't. Don't even bother.

Failed to identify the chip on the board and how he got it out!

7graylands, on the non-component side of that voice board, were there any circuit traces on it? At 4:35 You showed the component side of the voice board, but not the OTHER side. If there were any traces on the other side, you might wanna be REALLY careful about scoring the coating with that Xacto knife.

@coverupify - I did not coat the ICs with anything. After I made this video I went back and removed all the coating from the remaining 4 ICs. One year later and the unit is working perfectly.

How about 13 years later? It's still running like a champ.

So one year on and I'm assuming you didn't coat your chips with anything afterward... everything still working OK?

When he does the initial voice test you can tell each voice is not calibrated consistently.

So... why not just do 'em all? Why wait for them to fail when you can forestall it when you're already in there?

There are no traces on the reverse side.
