I wonder if this same technique will work on a Bachmann Santa Fe GP30. I bought one of their 2017 release with the blue pinstripes and yellow ends, only they messed up on the nose herald, and I'd like more than one number. I figure once I get the nose herald off (since it's in black and white) I could fix the fact the yellow does not go across the tip of the nose, too, as Santa Fe was in prototype. (They spent millions to develop a model, why can't they research photos better?)
I have some older passenger cars that seem like they are painted letters. Im wanting to change from Burlington to santa fe and the letters wont come off. The paint on the car wears off just as fast as the lettering
i tried this procedure on n scale kato engine and an n scale atlas engine. didnt work. I also tried this method on an older concor pa1 unit after 15 minutes and longer using several times rewetting it with micro sol i was able to get lettering off with a toothpick.sure would like to know what I am doing wrong
You probably didn't do anything wrong. Different companies use different printing processes and different inks. A technique that works for one product might not work on other products.
Sorry for the late reply. You might try acetone. It is a little more aggressive, but it works. I would test it on an unseen area first. It also works on Athearn.
@@FlyingCrow Acetone is VERY agressive. I would only try that as a last resort (if at all), since it can also dissolve the plastic. Thanks for the suggestion, anyway!
@@ICUNA22 It's funny, but acetone is what Kadee recommended to me to use to remove the printing on their rolling stock. I used it on a q-tip with no issues. I have since used it on Athearn and P2K. On the P2K it thinned the paint so I will need to repaint that area. If Kadee hadn't recommended it, I would have thought to use it. I sure wouldn't leave it on plastic any length of time though. I normally come right behind it with water.
@@FlyingCrow Ok, thanks for sharing your experience with acetone. I will have to give that a try. I hadn't thought that water would be suitable for cleaning up the area it had been used on. Seems like this area of modeling has a very limited amount of information, especially from the manufacturers.
It takes three of you guys to use this technique??? Maybe one guy to do it. One guy to video it. And one guy to get in the way of the other two guys "working?" Hmmm.
