Great video!!! I was scratching my head thinking it would be much harder to remove the clear coated stickers on my gas tank and wow this is easy! Thanks a lot :)
I haven't done it yet but this is what I've been looking for. Took my stickers off and was wondering what the line was and how to get rid of it. Couldn't figure out how, I knew it had to do with wet sanding. Thank you. Looks amazing! Thank you thank you can't wait to do it
Good info... however: I simply warmed mine up with a heat gun (same $$ as a blow drier, much hotter), did just enough X-acto knifing to lift one corner, and pulled the whole thing off. No WD40, no cutting around the whole thing w/knife.
I was about to use a DA and destroy the sticker since I'm changing color .. this takes hours out of my planned process.. thank you very much for making this video
I'll be attempting to remove a big decal put on by the former owner this weekend. It is clear coated in. I believe they may have ordered it this way. I'll record/take pics and update results. "Tanks" for the vid (pun intended).
As long as they sprayed at least a thin coat of clear before adding the decal you should be fine. Most important thing here is lots of patience and do it slowly and carefully. Good luck !
I have a Harley sportster with that cartoonish logo on the side. Would it work for my bike and is there enough clear underneath that wet sanding, polish, and compound would work?
@Soccerrrawks I made the video and you can clearly see the results when done right... can not be responsible for your mistakes. Its a technique that requires patience and accuracy..Ive done this successfully in at least 100 motorcycles with lots of happy customers. As any instructional video you will be performing this techniques at your own risk.
Any tips for removing large decals from plastic gloss black fairings? All the same? I'm just worried about scratching when evening out the clear coat, I've never wet-sanded before.
I am going to try to do this on my Guzzi V7 special. Could you kindly 'spell out' the type of sand paper, buffer, and polishing compound to use for the blending? Thank you!
Im trying to do that same thing on a 2009 polaris sportsman. Its plastic obviously. Im worrying about scratching the plastic and seeing the outline. Anyone have suggestions?
Decal will not budge even though I had the blow dryer on high and hot on the same spot for 10 minutes! Any ideas? I followed all the steps in the video!
Nicool333 if there is no clear under the decal most likely you will have to re paint the tank at least re clear. Unless you are ready to do so I wouldn’t recommend it
