Sir, i want to ask. I always cleaned my cpu in a different way than shown in the video. Im just using a tissue and sometimes alcohol. My local technician says its okay, but from your perspective, is that dangerous?
@PE4Doers
@PE4Doers 2 года назад
Not dangerous necessarily, it may just be a little messy and leave some small pieces of tissue and/or thermal paste behind. I like to use Paper towels or real cotton clothe (like a piece of an old white tee shirt. Then I can scrub it down thoroughly.
@terrapinflyer273
@terrapinflyer273 Год назад
I would want to make sure the cloth material you use is wet. As dry paper towel, q-tip, tissue, etc could potentially be abrasive. Tissue paper, while it seems it wouldn't be quite as abrasive as a q-tip or paper towel, tends to break down easily and leave tissue dust. Personally, I wouldn't want tissue dust landing on my components. I have used q-tips in the past and those have left visible micro-scratches on an aluminum heatsink, even while wet with iso alcohol (a cheap generic Foxconn AM2+ cooler. That may just have been poor quality aluminum - maybe not?). But no scratches visible on the CPU die. I also scrubbed the same CPU and cooler with a coffee filter as well, so that also may have been the culprit. Coffee filters aren't dusty, but I have a feeling they may be too abrasive. I'm sticking with the q-tip and 91+% iso method. Easier to get into the nooks and crannies that way too.

That is recommended, however as long as you touch a large metal area, such as you PC case or the metal legs of a table, you would probably be fine. Also, don't rub your feet on a carpeted floor while touching a CPU.

What is the reason behind not removing the CPU from the socket can something get damaged
@PE4Doers
@PE4Doers 5 месяцев назад
YES. If you accidentally bend some of those motherboard CPU socket pins it will be VERY difficult for you. It is NOT easy (and that's putting it mildly) to get them straightened out - if at all or ever. Most likely the mother board will become scrap.

@PE4Doers

Better than nothing. You just need to not over-swamp the CPU area, since the 30% that is not pure alcohol will take a lot longer to dry, so if it creeps under a crevice, it could lead to a short if power is applied before it dried.

Not really, it will just take longer to dry and you should wait longer before putting on the new paste to avoid water mixing with the paste and nearby motherboard components. Also, let it wait longer before you turn on the power for a similar reason.

There is nothing that absolutely requires it, however if is highly recommended. We use the 99% version is used because it will evaporate very fast and not get water into other motherboard components. I guess I will have to disagree on the heating-up point. Warming it up ahead of time definitely softens the old paste and make it less like that the CPU will pull out of the socket when you try and remove a CPU from a socket after a long period of time (especially for PGA motherboard). Also, anytime you want to compete with me on perfectly pronouncing the word 'paste' (every time you say it while creating a video), please let me know and I will set-up a Zoom call with you to hold that competition - recording it of course for everyone to hear and having it become a video.
