I just bought a 17 G6. I never considered going as far as removing the motherboard in a laptop. I've always said that was where I stopped, but this video was very helpful and I got it done! Thanks ;-))

Thank you so much for this teardown instruction! HP Zbook is the one and the only best mobile workstation ever created! I am happy with my Zbook 17 G5. Thank you! :-)
Well, it wasn't easy, but this video at least made it possible to do what I needed. My HP ZBook 17 G6 died and I needed to get the SSD out. Of course my drive was in the slot that required completely disassembling the computer because the drive wasn't in the easy slots, but in the one on the top of the system board. And, the screw holding the SSD in place had so much lock tight on it that I couldn't remove the screw. I wound up cutting the mother board with a pair diagonal cutters and twisting the screw from the SSD. A bit scary, but I have been able to put the SSD in an external enclosure and access the files for installation on the new computer. Pretty sure I have online backups of everything, but feel better about having the drive readable. Thanks for the video. Glad I don't need to put it back together after destroying the system board.

I don't understand why they would put one of the m.2 on the other side of the system board, why not just scrap the old ssd tray an put two additional m.2 drives there instead. Currently that drive on the other side of the system board is my main and I want to update it to a large m.2, I had no idea that's where the drive was located. What a mess
I changed system board with identical version due to failed power connector and burned components. now have error when trying to install HP dreamcolor assistant. error is X a DreamColor - enabled Zbook class system is required to install this software. all drivers are installed correctly. sensor cable is hooked up and everything else on the zbook works perfectly. I dont see anything in the bios but maybe I missed something ?

Can a 15 mm HDD be installed in this laptop? I ask this because 2 TB HDDs are 7.5 mm thick, but if a 5 TB (2.5 inch) HDD is installed it is 7.5 mm thick.

Some of the screws are bolted so hard to the system board that the screwheads got destroyed. I now can't remove the screws and basically can't do anything with the workstation anymore. It's right now in a disassembled state and I'm not able to put it together. 3000 $ down the drain because HP saves on quality of the screws...
