Removing the Engine from my BLOWN Mazda RX8

Today we pull the engine from my non running Mazda RX8 so we can get ready to tear it apart next week! There are many ways to pull one of these engines. I prefer to remove the transmission and pull the engine out the top. Some people like to pull the engine out with the transmission so you leave the driveshaft, PPF, and exhaust in the car. Some people take it out the bottom too. This is the first time I pulled an RX8 engine and it took me 10 hours. So if it is your first time, plan for about that much time while you try to figure out everything that needs to come out. I have gotten this method down to about 4 hours now with 2 people. Anyways enjoy the video, and I will see you next week when we take apart this engine!

I still clearly remember how I did rebuild for the first time in garage on my 8 few months ago :D The US metric bolts were pain to find in my country so i had to do new bolt threads. I had fun for 14 days with this

I'm undergoing my own rebuild job on my RX-8 too, I just leave all of my gearbox stuff alone and pull it out through the top like you did. You can leave the gearbox sitting on that front crossmember if you need do this again. And I'm glad rust isn't much of a thing down here.

Subscribed to your channel just before getting my 8 and loved your content. Keep going strong and can't wait to see how the rebuild goes. Replaced the motor in my RX8 last year with a factory motor, was expensive but runs better than when it was new. Average miles before the Apex seals go bad seems to be approximately 100K. Good luck with your project my fellow enthusiast.

Literally just pulled my engine and trans out today with the help of a good mate. Going to start undressing it tonight. I've got 47 days to open it up, inspect, order parts from overseas, rebuild and put everything back in. 😅🤞 Otherwise no drift matsuri for me.

Great series, looking forward to the rest! When we pulled mine out we actually left the bonnet on, wiring in, gearbox in, front bar on, only removed mid pipe and left the air con in but just cable tied up. Not sure why you pulled the computer out?

I just gave away my blue s1 project rx8 due to not having space or time I already have a series 2 for everyday driving and another project car but seeing this is like a sign that made me think I should have kept it.

cool project- could have used maybe a 20-30m video though that walked beginners through the removal steps a bit clearer.

I can't make a beginners guide for something I just did for the first time. I learn through the process what the best course of action is. I have got it down now what the best way to remove one of these engines is, so when I rebuild my black rx8, I can do a beginners guide for the whole rebuild process.

Your good at taking flashy shots to go with music. But watching where the bolts are and hoses, Wires, all that stuff. Its kinda what someone looking for these kinds of vudeos realy need. So, maybe details. Lil more. ... Just a lil.

You can remove most engines from a car w/o a lift, but you'll need a hoist to pull it from the top (which you could rent or buy quite cheap). The Renesis engine is quite light (compared to other engines), so that's an advantage.

Mines in the shop getting rebuilt as I watch this video. Hopefully, I'll get it back in the next week or so. It's a 2010 GT manual with just over 100k miles.

@@wnynj1213 a little less than the dealer quote for a reman replacement ($9k) and includes a cat delete and upgraded coils. Also includes new housings and rotor bearings.

Hey I have an 04 Mazda rx8. It’s in limp mode Computer says it’s oil metering pump. I’m going to replace but I have no idea where it is or how. Any insight. Or help? Or is there something else I can do to fix this?

Why all the extraneous work. Remove the entire exhaust system? Remove the front of the car? Remove the transmission? All not necessary.

I actually find it easier to remove and reinstall this way with a lift. Without a lift, it is easiest to just leave the exhaust, driveshaft, and PPF in the car and pull out the motor and transmission together out the top. It may seem like a lot of extra work, but it does save time. Plus removing all the bolts now makes it so much easier to work on in the future when I have to do a clutch change or what not :)
